Missour Governor Eric Greitens has been indicted on a felony charge of invasion of privacy by a St. Louis City Grand Jury.
The former Democrat Greitens (who changed his party affiliation when he decided to run for Governor of Missouri) had been having an affair with a woman and decided to "take out insurance" by taking unauthorized photographs of the woman in sexual bondage. The Governor denies the accusations, although does admit to the affair. He is not being charged with blackmail but with invasion of privacy.
Take the charges with a grain of salt. St. Louis is a Democratic stronghold and it would not be difficult to find a grand jury willing to issue such charges. Remember, he has only been charged, which means the grand jury said there was enough evidence to bring charges, not to convict Greitens.
Democrats in the Missouri legislature are demanding impeachment. It will be an uphill battle if the GOP decides to circle the wagons, as they hold a supermajority in both houses of Congress.
Removing Greitens would actually be a bad thing for Democrats in some ways, as the Lieutenant Governor would take over as Governor, and he is much more conservative than the former Democrat Greitens. Missouri law provides for the Lieutenant Governor to assume the post until the next general election. It is unlikely the Democrats could mount a serious challenge by 2918, a midterm. But the Donkeys hope to create a sense of scandal around the GOP, suggest they are corrupt and more Democrats are needed. Never was irony more lost on anyone. This shows the desperation of the Democrats in that their only option is to smear the opposition; they can't win the argument and can't compete at the ballot box without some dirt.
