I once heard a perfect description of the difference between Communism and socialism. Socialism is where you own the cow but the government owns the milk, while under communism the government owns both the milk and the cow. Under that definition Momdani clearly is a communist, not a socialist.
Zerohan made his commie comments while discussing housing and his idea that it is a right granted by God, er, government.
I am mindful of the Apostle Paul "when I was a child I thought like a child, reasoned like a child, but when I grew up I put away childish things". Momdani still reasons like a child (as do all those on the :eft).

IIRC from about seventy years ago, the definitions were:
Under Socialism, if you have two cows, you give both to the government and the government gives you some milk.
Under Communism, if you have two cows, you give both to the government and the government sells you some milk.
Under Naziism, if you have two cows, the government shoots you and takes the cows.
Under the New Deal, if you have two cows, you give them to the government, and the government milks the cows and pours the milk down the drain.
And finally, under Capitalism, if you have two cows, you sell one and buy a bull. (But if you're talking to a Gen Z'er, you have to explain why.)

Yeah; you'd have to explain to Gen. Z that milk actually comes out of cows in the first place; they think it comes from Amazon.

Ha! It reminds me of a situation where some idiot wrote a letter to a newspaper castigating hunters, saying they should "go to the store and buy the meat that was made for them there, where no animals were harmed."
