Major German Military Buildup

Germany is preparing to buy 1,000 tanks and 2500 armored vehicles to counter Russian forces in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
This is a major provocation and the Russians, already fearful of Western invasion, could well strike at Germany to pre-empt this military buildup. Of all countries the Russians hate and fear Germany the most and will not tolerate German forces threatening them. Their animosity goes all the way back to the Battle on the Ice, when Teutonic Knights invaded Russia when the Russians had sent out a call for aid against the Mongols. Germans have repeatedly invaded Russia over the centuries, and a thousand tanks suggests to them another invasion may be coming. In fact they may well believe the Ukrainian war was a ruse to soften the Russian forces.
I don't believe that but it doesn't matter what I believe; the Russians think this way.
None of tis would be happening had Joe Biden not wanted this Ukraine war.

I suspect you're right about the history of this, and of course you're right that Joe Bite-Me brought this on us. Too bad he had NO knowledge of history!

Dana, for once I'm actually speaking about something for which I am qualified. I studied Russian histtory in college, as well as language, and came away with degrees in said subjects (as welll as a certificate in Russian scientific translation). I had planned to work for national inttelligence in some capacity but the Cold War ended just as I was graduating and nobody I went to class with got jobs in the field. I like to say I got screwed by history, and I did.
It's too bad that not only Biden but his people don't know anything about the Russians. This whole thing could have been avoided had someone who knew them stepped up.
Same held true for the Obama Administration, and even the Bush Administration. I remember seeing Condoleeza Rice after Russia invaded Georgia - she looked like a deer in the headlights. Why? She was probably reading the national intelligence assessment reports and not actually looking at the data itself. I knew it was coming just by reading Pravda.
For decades now we've been doing things that make the Russians feel threatened, be it invading countries on their border, backing color revolutions in former Warsaw Pact countries and even former Soviet Republics, expanding NATO, deploying missile defenses right at their border, etc. Now Russia is regaining her strength and it was inevitable they would flex their muscles.
And now Germany is rearming in a big way. That will scare the hell out of the average Russian.
Too bad none of Trump's predecessors understood this. I'm not sure Trump does either.

I'm pretty sure Trump has people who understand this. He has some very smart people. Unlike Biden, who didn't dare have anybody around him who was any smarter than he was, which explains (among other things) his fondness for DEI hires.
