Madeleine Albright: 'I stand ready to register as Muslim'

Madeleine Albright, the former secretary of state under Democratic President Bill Clinton, said Wednesday she is "ready to register as Muslim."
Her comments are an apparent reference to fears by some in the Islamic community that President Trump could implement a government registry of Muslims, though his advisers say that is not going to happen.
"I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian & found out later my family was Jewish," she wrote on Twitter. "I stand ready to register as Muslim in #solidarity."

At one point in the campaign, Trump responded to questions from reporters in a way that appeared like he could be open to a government database that would track Muslims in the United States.
Trump's advisers deny that he ever supported such a thing.
"President-elect Trump has never advocated for any registry or system that tracks individuals based on their religion, and to imply otherwise is completely false," said Trump spokesman Jason Miller said in November.
