Kiss My Hamas!

Timothy Birdnow

As was to be expected Hamas is apoplectic over Trump's suggestion the U.S. might take over the Gaza Strip.

Reader Bill and I just discussed the matter. Bill said:

"Again, people hear Trump's words, but do not hear what he is saying. He does not start bargaining by demanding the $ 50 that he actually expects to get, he starts by demanding $100 and working his way down to the figure he will accept. People hear the opening bid of $ 100 and claim he is insane."

And Bill is right; it's how Trump negotiates.

What Trump is probably doing is threatening Palestine - get rid of Hamas or we're coming. It's likely a negotiating tool.

BUT there are many who will want us to do it, especially Israel (for their own protection) and our enemies probably do to. I image Xi would be thrilled with this. Putin - maybe. It would be a quagmire for sure and that would make him happy, but this area is critical to Russian commercial and military interests and losing Syria was a huge disaster for Putin's plans.

This could be a suggestion that turns into a promise and into reality. But Trump usually knows what he is doing.

Anyway Hamas loses big time if we do, and just the threat alone puts them on the defensive.

Sun Tzu said the greatest victory is the battle not fought. I think Trump is trying for that now.

1  My thinking is Trump wants the Arab nations to do the heavy work while the US watches. The problem is it will take some convincing and guarantees for the Arabs to get involved. They know that for most Palestinians there is no hope of reform since they have been totally brainwashed since birth and allowing them into their countries could be problematic. For the Palestinians it could be jumping out of the pan and into the fire, because the Arabs wont put up with their crap like the Israelis have.

2 None of the Arab countries want Palestinians within their boarders because when you get more than eight or ten Palestinians you have a heap o' trouble. Trump knows that, and is just talking, setting up a possible scenario to get one of the Arab countries to blink.

3 Couldn't agree more Mike. The logical thing is for Egypt or Saudi Arabia or Jordan (which was supposed to be their country in the first place) to take them. But as you say, they know they are troublemakers and don't want them in their countries. And as you say they won't put up with their crap if they do take them.

Dana, Yep. I think that's what Trump is doing. I hope anyway.

I like Israel's idea of exiling them to an island somewhere. But Hitler considered doing that with the Jews - exiling them to Madagascar - and it was condemned by the world then and would be highly hypocritical of the Israelis to suggest something similar. But the Palestinians have no real cultural or religious ties to the land as did the Jews, and they should want to go someplace nice.

Sadly the Palestinians don't want to build anything, or make a better place. They enjoy violence and killing too much.

4 Jonathan Tobin, editor of Jewish News Syndicate, wrote a splendid article that said, among other things, that if Trump pulls this off, it will put to death the idea of a two-state "solution" forever.
