I always thought Clauswitz had that backwards; politics is war by other
means. Instead of literally knifing someone in the back you do it
figuratively, but you still are out to crush any who oppose you.
"The overly quoted Sun Tzu said that "All warfare is based on
deception.†The equally over-quoted Clausewitz said that "War is the
continuation of politics by other means,†so taken together we can
conclude that politics is about deception. This is especially true in
liberal democratic politics where the game is to trick the majority
into handing over their privileges to a minority, who never have their
best interests in mind."

Amen, Brother Tim. But those sages aren't over-quoted, unless you mean that their quotes are often misused by people who don't understand them. Some people will quote anybody without having the foggiest notion of what the quote meant. Or the context, either, which is often important.
