A
few weeks ago, I somehow was discussing the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem
in 1961. It had daily day-old film footage and a discussion on ABC tv
with the distinguished journalist and author Jim Bishop, the author of
books such as "The Day Christ Died." I just took a look at that book on
Amazon (it has newer publication dates which are inaccurate) and one
person commented that Bill O'Reilly, in his recent bestseller "Killing
Christ," plagiarized much of his book from Bishop's work.
I have no idea if O'Reilly plagiarized anything, but
I would bet that Jim Bishop's book from the late 1950s is a much better
piece of writing and research than O'Reilly's. And the Jim Bishop book,
being about sixty years old now, is probably easily available from the
library on an interlibrary system loan.
Here is what some reader on Amazon has to say about this book (an $11.50 paperback)...
Amazingly
written. One can visualize the land, the people, hear the sounds of
daily life. You can't help but feel strong emotions throughout the book.
You don't have to be Christian or Jewish to understand the truth of
what happened. You simply become one with the people of that time. And
you understand the feelings of the few that stayed with Jesus until the
very end.
This book will stay with me for the rest of my days.
