This put the Malthusian ideas about mass starvation that were so popular in the '70's and '80's to shame. We now know that we can increase production through innovation and planning if we choose. The whole point of the mordern environmental movement is to reduce the world's population because (they say) it isn't "sustainable" and yet here we have proof that it very much IS sustainable.
