Dr. Henry Morris’s (1918-2006) "That Their Words May be Used Against Them" is a remarkable catalogue of compromising admissions stated primarily by evolutionists themselves which contravenes and subverts their own Darwinian views. With almost 500 pages of one compromising quote after the next one could easily argue that Morris has at least made a good case in favor of "reasonable doubt” with regard to the veracity of evolutionary theory.

Some time ago, President Thomas Jefferson, who was strongly influenced by European Deism, rejected the "newly developing science of geology” and its "evolutionary concept of the creation of the earth on the grounds that no all-wise and all-powerful Creator would have gone about the job in such a slow and inefficient way.” Morris even shows in a variety of quotes how modern evolutionists themselves have routinely admitted as much as Jefferson did long before Darwinism became official scientific dogma. In the Humanist magazine article written in 1995, Arthur Falk noted, "Nature makes everything in vain. After all, what is evolution? A mindless process built on evil: that’s what it is.” Exactly where empiricism, existentialism, and postmodernism meet in this quote is a twisted evolutionary bush that needs to be shaken of its many bitter fruits. Needless to say, such madness is a poor epistemological foundation for scientific knowledge.

In the 1940’s, when Dr. Morris was younger, he presumed a form of theistic evolution of sorts before he began to realize many of the inherent problems with Darwinism. By the time he his book, he had pieced together a rather lengthy list of choice quotes by evolutionists themselves, which were never spoken in any such way to advocate creationism, but still manages to easily undermine their own positions if they would bother to think much more seriously about what they just admitted. As such, in the spirit of Job 12:7-25 where it is warned that God will remove the reasoning powers of those who deny His obvious creative handiwork in the book of nature, Morris quotes President George Washington where he wisely writes, "It is impossible to account for the creation of the universe without the agency of a Supreme Being. It is impossible to govern the universe without the aid of a Supreme Being. It is impossible to reason without arriving at a Supreme Being. Religion is as necessary to reason, as reason is to religion. The one cannot exist without the other. A reasoning being would lose his reason, in attempting to account for the great phenomenon of nature, had not a Supreme Being to refer to.” At the time of the founding fathers of America, the nation generally presumed biblical authority and Newtonian science as being consistent with one another before the advent of Darwinism.

While many Christians have often presumed the so-called Big-Bang Theory can be used by apologists to scientifically deduce there was a beginning to the universe that only an infinite God can bring about in a vast creative explosion, Morris goes through any number of quotes from Big-Bangers and other scientists who are far more doubtful about the cosmology of it all. Writing for Nature magazine in 1990, one author let slip, "Cosmology is unique in science in that it is a very large intellectual edifice based on very few facts.” Another author writing for Scientific American wrote in 1992, "The Big Bang ultimately reflects some cosmologists’ search for creation and for a beginning. That search properly lies in the realm of metaphysics, not science.” Even the late Stephen Hawking drops this line, "For the vast majority of stars, there is only one characteristic feature that we can observe – the color of their light.” His famous book, "A Brief History of Time" is much more of an oxymoron than most would care to admit when one considers the vast astronomical ages he is speaking of. Mathematical cosmology together with their computer models and algorithms all too often quickly become metaphysical. Writing for the Scientific American in 1955, scientist George Wald (1906-97) wrote without blushing, "Given so much time, the impossible becomes possible, the possible probable, and the probable virtually certain. One has only to wait: time itself performs miracles.” Yet English astronomer Fred Hoyle (1915-2001) pointed out later the mathematical absurdities which make up most of evolutionary cosmology even if billions of years are granted.

Even the holy grail of Einstein’s speed of light which measures how old the universe is, has been poured out and subjected to criticism as far back as 1953 when an abstract was written by two scientists dealing with "Binary Stars and the Velocity of Light.” They concluded the "time required for light to reach us from the most distant stars is only 15 years.” As such, perhaps it is thus not unsurprising that there have even been a few scientists who postulated that the universe must be far younger than is widely reputed among the scientific community. In 1996, the Scientific American compared modern scientific cosmology to "an endlessly nested set of Matryoshka dolls. Each refinement of the Big Bang delves deeper into abstruse theory, which grows progressively harder to prove or disprove.” So much for progressive science.

In 1985, the Scientific American wrote, "The realization that we still do not know what makes up most of the universe has thrown astronomy off the track of normal science and into a crisis.” That same year, Science magazine leaked out, "It is also a bit disturbing that all of these estimates of the ages and compositions of the stars rest on elaborate calculations of what is going on inside them, but all we observe is the light emitted from their surfaces.”
That cosmological evolutionism is on very shaky ground does not bode well for biological evolution, since biology, like it or not, must rest on cosmology. Such cosmological concerns, however, strangely, do not concern biological evolutionists. More often than not, they simply ignore each other. Morris thus spends much of the heart of his book taking to task biological evolutionists by showing how their theories too are filled with one inconsistency after the next. Biological evolutionists are fully aware of the paucity of the fossil evidence, which is literally blown out of the water by what is otherwise known as the Cambrian Explosion that sits at the very bedrock, pun intended, of almost all life on earth – a factual conundrum left unexplained by gradual evolution. Many evolutionists have known now for a very long time that natural selection does not select much of anything when it comes to evolutionary development.

The fossil evidence is so thin, many evolutionists had to adopt a new theory of evolution which outright denies its inherent gradualism. They have called it punctuated equilibrium. Since there are virtually no transitional fossils to speak of, even though their theory demands they be everywhere, many evolutionists now say there was a rapid evolution of one species into another at the outside edge of a species group which left no fossil remains because the change was so isolated and so fast. This, of course, not only suggests something miraculous, but also plays into catastrophism which now has become the new dogma of evolution.

Many now teach that evolution works through quick catastrophes followed by steady states in which everything remains the same until the next catastrophe. There is thus a uniformitariani sm in between catastrophes. Yet modern evolutionary theory is based on uniformitarian measurements today that somehow must break through the catastrophes of the past – all of which creates any number of problems for dating rocks, particularly when there are few purities that can be counted thanks to the catastrophes. Even worse, fossils are used to date the rocks, and then the rocks are used to date the fossils. More than a few evolutionists understand the circular reasoning that is being used to date the rock layers upon which evolutionary geology is built. Some scientists say they do not date fossils by the rocks, but they date the rocks by the fossils. Other scientists say they date fossils by the rock layers.

The last four chapters of Morris’s book deal primarily with the fruits of evolutionary theory in society where is seen what are some of the sources he used to write his earlier book entitled, "The Long War Against God." Here, Morris reveals very revealing quotations relative to the history of evolution, its war against God, and the social fallout of this rebellion against the truth of God’s word. Amazingly, Morris shows how many an evolutionist is fully aware of the maddening societal bitter fruits which evolutionary theory foists upon society, but unfortunately, have accepted it as a tragic, existential truth that does not need to make sense since postmodern madness prevails in the hearts and minds of so many these days. That Darwinism played no small role in the rise of racism, eugenics, the monopoly capitalism of Rockefeller Republicanism, Social Darwinism, Marxism, Fascism, and the death culture of abortionism and environmentalis m is characteristica lly brushed off as an existential sad fact of evolutionary life that is not morally accountable to a transcendent Creator.

Evolutionist Stephen Gould mockingly acknowledged that the eternal nature of bacteria itself completely bunks evolutionary theory, "As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be until the sun explodes, this is the ‘age of bacteria.’ Bacteria began the story 3.5 billion years ago, as life arose near the lower limits of its preservable complexity. The bacterial mode has never altered.”
While Morris is well aware his contrarian quotes from evolutionists themselves does not mean they believe in creationism, he does recognize that his book may thus "elicit charges that some quotes are taken out of context, but I don’t think any of them misrepresent in any way the intent of the writers when they wrote what they did. In any case, the reference is given, so readers can check it out for themselves if they wish.”

Perhaps more to the point with regard to the motivation of writing his book, the very title itself strongly suggests Morris is thinking of the spirit behind the words when the long arm of the law reads its rights to its citizens suspected of a crime, "You have a right to remain silent. You have a right to an attorney. Any word you say may be used against you in a court of law.” Indeed, the Judge Himself, the Lord Jesus Christ says as much, "But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned (Matthew 12:36-37).” In other words, there will be an accounting for such quotations and admissions before the Judge. Evolution breaks the first commandment, among many others when all said is said and done. Indeed, Deuteronomy teaches that both the cosmological heavens and the biological earth were used as witnesses against Israel as they entered into the promised land (Deuteronomy 4:39; 30:19). This will be no less true at the end of days.
