1 I LOVE the way he cuts to the chase here. And he was one of the best.

2 He was. That kind of insight is why he has such a cult following.

Interestingly enough, Feynman's I.Q. was only 126. Mensa offered him a membership and he declined because he said he wasn't smart enough!  He always scored off the charts in math and science but struggled with a lot of other things.

3 I've believed for years that IQ tests are a waste of time. Human intelligence is something that is multi-faceted and I think trying to measure it is like constructing climate-predicting models. (Not that that stops people.)

4 I agree. My late best friend was a genius in terms of mechanical stuff. He could build anything, fix anything, understood how everything worked. He was of above normal intelligence in other areas, but I doubt he would score genius level I.Q. on a test. But a genius he was!  He could build anything!  And he could do other things. Once his girlfriend took him out sailing. She had had some lessons. But the wind kicked up and she lost control and Wayne, with zero training or experience, sailed the boat back to harbor all by himself. He just figured out how it worked and did it. I would probably have drown trying.

5 Sounds like your friend's powers of observation were great. You can learn a lot just by paying attention.
