Holier Than Powell

Steven Chase

About Colin Powell....
I find it amusing and interesting that (1) mainstream media hails him as heroic; the rebel media points out his war crimes. And (2) Predictably, his obituaries put great emphasis in the fact that he was "the first black” whatever, reducing his achievements – and he did have many– to a mere accident of birth.

Tim adds:

And the media ignores the fact Powell was the guy who knew exactly who leaked the name of Valerie Plame to the media (it was Richard Armitage) and he let Scooter Libby twist in the wind and face prison time.

And THAT almost brought down the Bush Presidency.

They also ignore the fact Powell was the guy who gave the presentation to the U.N. arguing there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, then he turned on the Bush Administration was it proved not to be true, as if they forced him to lie. He could always have resigned.

But today he was a true hero to the media.

They love him ever since he turned on his own party and endorsed Barack Hussein Obama for President.

And forgotten too is his working to get Trump turned out of office.

I do not see him as a hero.

I hated his sanctimonious, holier-than-Powell attitude. He was like Ashley Wilkes in Gone with the Wind; a man puffed up with his own sense of honor and importance. He was more image than substance, an empty suit, in my opinion.

1 I always get annoyed when people make it look as if Powell lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The fact is, there WERE WMDs in Iraq, but Congress made Bush jump through so many hoops for so long in order to invade that Saddam was able to get them all moved to Syria -- because he knew he was going to be invaded. This is borne out in a book by his right-hand man (I believe his name was Gen. Sada), who was interviewed on the subject by Melanie Phillips -- a respected investigative reporter and writer. The weapons were all gone by the time we were "allowed" to invade.

I'm not a great admirer of Colin Powell -- or any other RINO, for that matter -- but the fact is that he told the truth as well as he knew it on this matter. We have enough other things to beat him up with; let's give him a pass on this.

2 I agree. Powell was giving the best intel. IF what Powell said was false then it was the intel that was wrong - meaning it was the fault of the CIA and DIA, not because Powell lied or because Bush lied to Powell. The rest of the world believed those weapons were there too.

They just didn't care.

I am sure Saddam moved them out in the runup. It was the most telegraphed invasion in history.

3 What made me mad at Powell was he threw his boss under the bus when the heat came on.

4 I'm with you there. As they used to say, "one 'aw-shit' wipes out all the 'attaboys.'" Apparently, Powell was losing out on invitations to the best cocktail parties.

5 Powell's conduct in the Valerie Plame situation counts as an "aw, shit" for sure.

6 Yep. He through all his honor under the bus when he did that.
