Hillary Clinton Shuts Down Rumors of Being Bloomberg’s Running Mate

Dana Mathewson

Those of you who are Shakespeare buffs will remember the scene in "Julius Caesar" where the conspirators were describing Caesar's being offered the Imperial Crown three times at the Lupercal festival (I believe it was -- you can check me on this), and how he put it aside with what they described as "increasing reluctance" each time. If Hillary is saying, as she does here, that there's "No way" she'll partner with Mini-Mike, it means she truly believes he has zero chance. I think it also means she may change her mind tomorrow.

Clinton said at a Clinton Global Initiative event held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday:

Oh, no. I’m just waiting and watching as this plays out. I will support whoever the nominee is because I think, for all the reasons you can imagine, and here in Puerto Rico there are many, we need to have a new president for our country.

Clinton also added that she wants to "see Puerto Rican American citizens be able to vote for president.”

Clinton’s remarks were made after she was questioned about a report from Matt Drudge that claimed Bloomberg was considering asking Clinton to join his presidential ticket.

I find her great interest in enfranchising Puerto Ricans interesting. I wasn't aware that was one of her interests. Could this be an example of squirrel politics?

1 I suspect the Gray Squirrel (Hillary, that is) would take it if she thought she could win - and if she thought she could bully Bloomkopf.  Either she thinks he can't do it or she thinks SHE can't.

If Puerto Rico wants to vote they need to become a state. You can't have it both ways. Oh, and start paying all the taxes we "enjoy".

2 It's possible that her people and his people are jawing away like crazy behind the scenes.  But John Fund, for one, doesn't think the rumors are credible, and laughs at the idea that if they did form a partnership, Bloomie'd need to hire a food taster (as he put it).

There's the idea that Bloomie's such a chauvinist that even The Hag wouldn't touch him with a 20-foot pole, even if she thought he'd get her into the White House.

3 Well, I don't think Bloomkopf would touch her with any sort of pole either, but he may ask her to be VP! Seriously, I don't think this is going to happen, but you never know. Politics makes strange bedfellows, after all.
