Highlights of the Harvard/Harris Poll

Jonathan Dickinson

I just read a detailed analysis of the Harvard/Harris poll that just came out, I thought I'd save you time and highlight the most significant items in the polling results. That's not to say that I will only list the things that help Trump and Republicans and leave out the things that don't, there simply weren't a whole lot of things that helped Democrats. Economy:
60% say economy is strong, 31% think it's weak
68% say their personal finances have improved, 26% say gotten worse
58% think Trump's doing well on job creation (that's not his job but...), 57% approve of his handling of the economy

Immigration:
63% still favor Trump's DACA compromise from earlier in the year, that number has remained constant
24% want open borders, 76% say we need secure borders
61% say we need better border security, 57% want some combination of a wall or barrier
Should ICE be disbanded? 69% say no. Uh, Democrats, you probably should tell some of your extremist politicians to can the "ICE is a terrorist organization" (Cynthia Nixon) and "The Border Patrol are like Nazi prison guards at Auschwitz" (Jackie Speier) talk
Stricter or looser immigration enforcement? 70% say stricter
64% think those who enter illegally should be sent home, and in a shocker to Democrats after their "Nazi Week," 61% think that even if the families have children

And as is common in polling there are some minor contradictions (in the context of the previous question):
45% approve of catch and release policy while 55 percent believe in holding illegal crossers in custody until their hearing
53% believe that people who cross illegally should be prosecuted. 50 percent say parents with children who enter illegally should be prosecuted.
71% approve of the executive order that prohibits separation of families (even though it's against the law)

Sanctuary Cities:
84% are against the sanctuary city policy of not notifying immigration authorities when an illegal immigrant is in custody!

And now we come to the issues (NK summit and IG Report) that spawned the "America is Nazi Germany" blitzkreig.

North Korea:
59% approve of how we are handling North Korea
74% approved of the Trump/Un summit
61% think the agreement signed by Trump and Un was a diplomatic victory for Trump (that Has to tick off Democrats)

Mueller/FBI/DOJ:
59% say the Mueller investigation is hurting the country
Only 35% say they think Mueller has found evidence of Russian collusion (A year ago in May 74% of Hillary voters - 48 million - thought there was evidence)
60% say the actions of the FBI and CIA in the Hillary email case and Trump-Russia case need to be investigated
64% support appointing a special counsel to investigate abuses at the FBI!
77% say the FBI and DOJ need to turn over all documents requested by Congress

There were some 50/50 items which indicate that Democrats and Republicans remain unchanged on their positions.
--------------------------

Then Justice Kennedy retired and:

WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!

I forgot to include the approval ratings. President Trump's approval is up 2% in their poll, it's now 47%. The amazing factor is a 10% rise in approval among Hispanic voters (But what about Concentration Camps??), although there has been a 4% drop in independent voters. And as we all know, according to all of the really important Republicans and the really important Democrats, the independent vote is all that matters in America. Just ask John McCain.

2 The results reflect a nationally representative sample. Results were weighted for age within gender, region, race/ethnicity, marital status, household size, income, employment, political party, political ideology, and education where necessary to align them with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.
