High Noon to Doomsday

Guy F. Beebe

I just realized a frightening thing. Whatever the real level of corruption and illegality of the Biden family in Ukraine, if Putin takes over, he can claim ANYTHING, manufacture ANY evidence, and thus, Quid Pro Joe can not afford to let the Ukraine fall...

What an ironic way to kick off the "End of the World as we know it".

Tim adds:

Yes, and at the same time the Ukrainians had been in bed, with the Biden family, with Hillary, and with a lot of other Democrats. They probably have a lot of blackmail material in records in Kiev. Putin wants it, Biden wants it. And both leaders cannot afford to lose it especially at this point. Both of them are backed into a corner here. Whoever loses this loses their power. That is the kind of thing that could lead to doomsday.

Tim adds:

This is a war between two statist visions for the future. One - Putin and his buddy Xi and a few others like Iran and North Korea - want to establish a world ruled by central powers using traditional government and force of arms. They are much like the Eurasia in Orwell's novel 1984.

They are butting heads with the other statists, the international socialist entity that favors technocracy and the use of psychological manipulation to keep the public quiet. They are basically Orwell's Oceania, although Oceania and Ingsoc was more iron fisted. The technocracy, the Davos crowd, rules by control of money, but control of media, and uses persuasion when it can and only rarely brings out the iron fist. But steel still lies beneath the velvet glove.

That is America and the West.

There is another way, the Constitutionalists, whose view prevailed in the 19th century but who has been in steady retreat for a hundred years. It has no country any longer, and no real clout. But it is still in the hearts and minds of many of us, and as a result it is still a danger to the Ruling Class, the Oceanians.

Which may well be why Biden wants this war to drag out. He needs documents destroyed in Ukraine. He needs a war to buttress his party's politcal fortunes. He needs to revive faith in the tatters of the technocracy that has been badly tarnished.

And he needs to reduce the old-line statist vision to rubble. There can only be one tyrant.

That said, Putin is in much the same boat. He cannot afford to lose this; he'll be deposed. And this will signal the end of his plans for reviving the Tsarist regime.

He cannot back down. And Xi Xingping is watching carefully. He will make his move if the U.S. fails to show any resolve.

Now, many conservaties and libertarians are eager to support Russia because they see them as an ally against the Oceanian Deep State. But that is like a lamb allying with a lion to protect it from a wolf. Neither are good options for the lamb.

While this is a struggle for economic wealth in no small measure (as I have repeatedly pointed out) it is also a struggle for which particular statist worldview will triumph. Both sides are willing to do what it takes, up to and including launching a nuclear strike.

If Putin thinks he's going to lose this he'll do it. He is not insane, as so many news analysts are claiming; he is a complete pragmatist and a master of power politics. He would launch the birds if he thought he had the tactical advantage. Putin doesn't care about his citizens. He cares about his own power.

Sadly, the junta behind Joe Biden does likewise. They cannot afford to have Donald Trump lurking in the tall grass.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Putin has almost absolute power. So does the Ruling Class in the West. This is a classic irresistable force meeting an immovable object.

All the rest of us are the poor shmoes stuck between the two.

I don't think this will end in nuclear war. I suspect there will be a deal cut allowing both parties to claim victory, probably with the U.S. recognizing the independence of the breakaway provinces and a pledge not to move NATO into the region in return for Russia pulling out. Biden will crow he prevented war and forcedthe Russians out. Putin will crow he split more of the Ukraine off and prevented Western encroachmant.

But, it could come to doomsday too.

1 I don't see any winners here, except perhaps Xi.

2 Agreed Dana. And mayby Macron in France, who might try to assert leadership in the vaccum left by the U.S. failure.

Hey, that would be a good name for a navy ship in honor of Joe Biden; the U.S.S. Failure!
