Herb
London, a distinguised writer and longtime President of the Hudson
Institute in New York, has a blog piece at American Thinker today called
"Terrorism shows its ugly face again," which shows off some flaws in NY
elite thinking in its first sentence/paragraph.

But his opening line shows an attitude I know all too well, namely
fellow New Yorkers assuming everyone, anywhere is totally familiar with
New York City.
The full paragraph reads as:
A
Bangladeshi man reportedly inspired by ISIS set off a pipe bomb
strapped to his body sowing mass chaos in New York’s Port Authority,
but fortunately causing few, if any, injuries. It is believed the
terrorist detonated his low-tech device prematurely.

My posted comment in reply reads as:
"set off a pipe bomb strapped to his body sowing mass chaos in New York’s Port Authority..."
Mr.
London, there are many readers here not from the New York area who
don't understand that "New York's Port Authority" in this context is a
reference to a very large commuter bus station and not to a government
office building. In fact, the bomb was detonated in a NY subway system
passenger tunnel near or, as some reports state, underneath the Port
Authority bus station. Yes, the panic quickly spread to the bus station
itself but it also - significantly - occured in the subway system, a
fact widely reported.
Where
are the editors here? Mr. London is an accomplished individual that
I've heard talk in person but that doesn't mean everyone reading this
board in Saint Paul, MN; Fort Smith, AR: and Sacramento, CA are
familiar with NY City shorthand expressions like "Port Authority" when
it means the big commuter bus station. In fact, this assumption that
everyone knows NY City slang is part of the myopic vision of the
bicoastal elites that got Donald Trump elected President. Yes, thanks
to movies, people all over the country know that "Fifth Avenue" and
"Park Avenue" in NY are ritzy addresses but knowledge of NY City
locations doesn't extend to everywhere in New York City.
