With climate Change it's "heads they win, tails we lose".
Antarctic winter sea ice extent sets new record in 2014 | NOAA Climate.gov
"Antarctic sea ice extent is higher than 1979, 1982, 1989, 1996, 2000, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. It has increased 18% since 2016.
So apparently if it's warm it causes sea ice to grow just as NOAA said in 2014. But when it's low they say it's caused by warming too. So which is it?

The argument Cohen made was that a warmer world meant a collapse of the polar vortex, bringing cold air southward. But the vortex collapses all the time, usually over El Nino conditions. When that happens warmer water moves up into places like the Barentz and Kara seas and that breaks up the circumpolar current. The whole thing is driven by El Nino and breaks up the vortex, which has nothing to do with warming from carbon dioxide. It's just another sneaky trick to explain why it's cold. In fact, Cohen wrote an essay entitled "It's cold because it's hot". Makes zero sense.
He also argues that the Himalayas block cold air from the Arctic and thus southern Asia gets very hot at the same time. In that way he can explain major heat waves in India or whatnot when North America and Europe are freezing.
But of course none of this applies to the Antarctic. His whole theory is shot to hell by Antarctic conditions.
I know you know that already Bill but am speaking for any casual reader (if we have any at all anymore.)
Dana, I can't say I disagree about Captain America, who served in Vietnam in case you missed it.

To be accurate, he served on Swift Boats, and I seem to remember that at least one of his Commanding Officers said he needed to be watched constantly.
