The GOP has gotten way too comfy.
Democrats celebrate special election victory in Iowa State Senate ...
This is deep red territory, which Trump won by huge margins.
Granted this was a special election which Democrats are always good at winning because they will pump vast sums of money into them and send in armies of volunteers (30,000 showed up for this election from all over the country) but it now denies a supermajority to the GOP in Iowa, thus making it necessary to win Democrat votes for the approval of appointees.
In fact the candidate was a huge RINO and everyone knew it so the GOP was less than enthused.
But this shows the Democrats can still win and it is absolutely necessary the GOP hold the House and Senate for the next two years at least. Everything will fall apart if we lose either body in the next election.
Bold colors always carry the day; pastels do not inspire. For decades the GOP has believed they could win by keeping their heads down and tiptoeing around the media. That is a loser's game. People need to be inspired and they will come if you offer bold colors and strong leadership. Those who are generally apathetic will find they want to be part of that. But tepid leadership inspires nobody and only party faithful will stand with such.
Thatis, of course, assuming the boldness is in line with American values. The Democrats did their own version of this with people like AOC and have driven the public away, because the public is not socialist or communist or wants dudes playing in women's sports, etc. But even before AOC the Democrats put Nancy Pelosi in, and everyone has forgotten how radical she was at the time. Not now because she moved the whole party leftward and so she's a "centirst" now in her party. But there would have been no AOC or any of the other crazies (like Crockett) without her.
Trump is just going where America was a few short years ago and people remember. But he's leading boldly back to the sanity we have lost. That is an absolute winner. The RINO "let's all just get along" approach is despised and rightly so; it's simple surrender couched as "comity" and compromise. We are past the point of compromise; we have about compromised ourselves to death. That is the communist dialectic; make your enemies compromise away their whole existence. Americans are starting to become wise to that.
At any rate this should be a warning about any return to the RINO ways of yore. It's death for the GOP. This is Trump's party now, not the Bush family, not Karl Rove's, not Mitt Romneys or Mitch McConnells. And if we are to take our country back and restore sanity we have no choice but follow the Orange Peril. He knows how to win and will fight. Can't say the same for the Republican gods of the copybook headings.
