Selective studies of parts of West Antarctica known for it's subsea volcanoes and fissures, are often used to demonstrate a false claim that Antarctica is warming. The fact is:

Antarctica Is Colder, Icier Now Than Any Time In 5000 Years. The Last Warm Period Was 1000 Years Ago.

This is supported by recent peer reviewed research papers a couple of which are summarised below.

Antarctica has undergone rapid glacier and sea ice expansion in recent centuries, in line with the long-term and recent Antarctic cooling trend.
West Antarctica’s mean annual surface temperatures cooled by more than -1.8°C (-0.93°C per decade) from 1999-2018 (Zhang et al., 2023). https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/bams/104/6/BAMS-D-22-0153.1.xml

This cooling is not just in West Antarctica, but most of the continent also has cooled by more than 1°C in the 21st century.

Furthermore, according to a new study, about 6000 years ago Antarctica’s Collins Glacier’s frontline was a full 1 km southwest of its current extent. See https://www.nature.com/articles/s43247-024-01245-6

The frontline advanced to today’s extent ~5000 years ago.

"Previous studies proposed that 6000 yr BP, the frontline position of the Collins Glacier was located 1 km further south west than the present, and that the current frontline was first attained at approximately 5000 yr BP.”

The glacier then continuously retreated south of the modern extent for another 4000 years, with peak ice loss 1000 years ago.

In the last 1000 years this glacier has rapidly re-advanced back to the glaciated extent from 5000 years ago, which is in line with the sustained cooling trend ongoing since the Medieval Warm Period.

That is entirely correct; Antarctica is cooling all over, not hot and melting.

A point to ponder:

East Antarctica is a true ice cap, towering way above the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, which floats on water. The East sits on land. This is important to understand because the West sheet is more easily moved into the water.

So, if the mass of the East cap increases (as it has been doing steadily) it puts pressure on the Western ice sheet, forcing it out further from land. The end result is calving of the ice - and we wind up having shelf collapses.

It's rather like a woman's long fingernail. Women are always breaking their nails because they are so long and not supported by anything. The same holds true of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, which is floating on water - often over volcanoes. The heavier the Eastern sheet grows the more pressure there is on the Western.

Those undersea volcanoes warm and lubricate the bottoms of the ice sheet, making them move better and thus making shelf collapse more likely.

It has nothing to do with air temperature, which is generally well below zero degrees F, not just zero degrees C.

It further has nothing to do with "warming oceans" as the Antarctic is surrounded by the Antarctic circumpolar current, a very cold and very deep and very wide ocean current that blocks warm water from entering inside the Antarctic Convergence. It's a kind of border fence for illegal water aliens. Beyond it the waters are very cold and would freeze if not so saline. It doesn't matter how warm water coming from the north is; it never reaches the continent.

So, no actual net loss of ice, no warming, no warming water around the continent. What is being peddled to us are lies, or near enough - lies by omission.
