Focusing on race is hateful and wrong, which is why we are focusing on race

"Wales is to become the first UK nation to make teaching Black, Asian and minority ethnic histories and experiences mandatory in the school curriculum.”

The truth is that there is virtually no Black or Asian history to teach in Wales, or the rest of the U.K. prior to the 1950s.

If you talk about Black or Asian people in these places before that decade, you are highlighting a tiny handful of instances whilst ignoring masses of more relevant history.

And you are doing this because you are obsessed with race. Because you can’t accept the historical realty that diversity in a racial sense and involving black and Asian people is a relatively recent change.

It’s not hateful to know that the demographics of the past were different. It probably is motivated by hate to pretend that they weren’t.

At one and the same time these lessons will be saying:

1/Focusing on race is hateful and wrong, which is why we are focusing on race.

2/Everyone black and Asian was oppressed in the past because they were a minority in an overwhelmingly white nation, but the overwhelmingly white nation was actually full of all these interesting and wonderful black and Asian people who have always been there.

And none of the people designing these lessons will have the intelligence or the honesty to notice these contradictions.

Of course they will also be teaching every white kid in Wales to hate themselves.

There is no reason to specify black or Asian history in Wales, because for the entire history of Wales hardly any of it existed. Just as there would be no reason to prioritise white history in China, except for a desire to denigrate the majority of the Chinese in the past, and the majority of the Chinese there today.

They are of course proud of their hypocritical racism. Far prouder than they are of, well, Wales. Children who have never heard of Owen Glendower will hear about some previously obscure person who was, for instance, the first black postman in Wales.

Nailed it! When I was in college in the '80's the big push was on for "multiculturalism" which was the greatest thing since sliced bread, or so they told us. I remember when I realized what they were talking about; not about celebrating other cultures but about creating nations within nations - in short balkanizing the country (this is the U.S.; it probably came to Britain earlier). It was a terrible idea then and I don't for a minute believe they didn't know it was. I have since concluded it's purpose is divide and conquer; they want us at each-others throats so they can take power while we are distracted. And it's working beautifully from their perspective.

1 WALES? Good grief. I thought that country was noted only for a grievous lack of vowels in its ancient language. That, and singing in large choruses.

BTW, Tim, do you ever wonder what the greatest thing was BEFORE sliced bread?

2 Yeah. I'm guessing sliced meat. And before that? Any meat at all.

BTW Wales is known for coal and cheating someone in a deal "Welshing out'.
