1 Do you suppose somebody could tell this to the esteemed Dr. Foochi -- Foozi -- Fauci -- or what the hell ever his name is? He's in the news all the time and certainly doesn't seem to know it! People keep telling us he's so darn smart. Compared with Dr. Feynman, he ranks down there with the snails and slugs, I'd say.

I remember reading an article by a real scientist, on some subject or other, who said "We should preface anything we say with 'considering our current level of ignorance on the subject...'"

2 Agreed Dana. Feynman coined the term "cargo cult science" to describe guys like Fauci. For those who don't know, during WWII natives of many of the south sea islands (New Guinnea, Micronesia, etc.) saw these "white people" (this included Japanese, who were white by their standards) build airstrips and have these great birds land, disgorging all sorts of wonderful things. They concluded that the gods had sent them for their own people but the whites used superior magic to hijack the cargo. So they set about trying it themselves, building "air strips" in the jungles complete with conning towers and guys wearing fake head sets. They lit the strips at night with torches. Then they waited.

And waited, and waited, and waited.

Feynman's point was that there is a pseudo-science that masquerades as science. It has all the trappings of science, but in the end it's as fake as a Lee Press On Nail. It's just like the cargo cult airstrips; simply an attempt to LOOK scientific. Fauci meets that criteria.
