In assessing the energy inputs onto the surface of planet Earth, the reality is that radiation (solar, cosmic, moonbeams, starlight, and the much-heralded, ersatz "back radiation”) is a laughably minuscule fraction in our total energy inputs.
In relation to the importance to Life on Earth, the radiation from the Sun is barely more than a bright birthday candle.
Radiation is by far and away the weakest mechanism for heat transfer. Radiation is a stream of photons, carrying no mass and no charge. Photons are gauge bosons. They are barely more than messenger boys. Cooking foods uses convection and conduction. How long have we had microwaves ? And much to the detriment of flavors.
Our planet receives radiation spanning soft ultraviolet, thru visible, to near infrared. Say wavelengths 100 to 1000 nanometers (nm). Of course, the planet cools by emitting long wave infrared at 8,000 to 14,000 nm, radiating out from cloud tops.
UV-C spans 100 to 280 nm. It is the most damaging to Life and is filtered by ozone in our stratosphere.
UV-B spans 280 to 320 nm. It can cause skin cancer. It inhibits photosynthesis.
UV-A spans 320 to 400 nm. Responsible for sunburns and also inhibits photosynthesis.

Near infrared light spans 700 to approx. 1000 nm. It is approx. 49.4 % of solar energy. It is the wavelength that warms you and the barest surface of the oceans.
All of the other forms of energy which nurtured and sustains Life on our planet are unseen.
The planets and stars all formed by accretion with heavy metals and
minerals stratifying throughout the celestial mass. It is recognized
that enstatite chrondite meteoric masses were the essential building
block materials, carrying the heaviest of the heaviest elements — the
Actinides — to the cores. Thus formed the Earth’s GeoReactor, a

As the
planet decompressed, minerals transformed to yield sulfur, oxygen, and
water. A cascade of geochemical reactions produced SO2, other
sulfur-based acids, and metal oxide catalysts. Sulfur-based acids
reacts with molten carbonates to yield CO and CO2. Water reacts with
mafic and ultramafic like olivine to produce hydrogen plus scaly
serpentine minerals like crocoite and asbestos minerals. Fischer-Tropsch
The center of mass (the barycenter) of our Solar System is determined by the Sun and Jupiter. They are like a mis-matched set of bolos as the Solar System rockets through space. The gravity interactions squeeze and pump Earth’s fragile rigid tectonic plates, opening the trench systems of the oceans to release the inner heat of the planet. Thus we have liquid water on the surface plus heat injected into the ocean waters to produce Weather and Climate.
There is so much more than what meets the eye.
