Elon Musk - the Ross Perot of the '20's

Timothy Birdnow

Anybody remember Ross Perot? He is the guy single-handedly responsible for two terms of Bill Clinton (who started most of the radicalization of the U.S. although he was moderate in some ways.)

Musk Vows to Take On MAGA, Dems With 3rd Party

All Musk's party can do is be a spoiler, drawing votes from the GOP at a time when we absolutely cannot afford any cracks in our unity.

I get it; Musk isn't happy with all the spending. I'm nott either. But we've made a start and anyone who has half a brain had to know we weren't going to make these really major cuts yet - the margins in the House and Senate are way too thin. Even if they were not we have a lot of stuff we MUST fund - kicking illegal aliens out of the country, rebuilding our military, restructuring our economy. All of that is going to cost up-front capital. Must should understand that.

Musk seems to believe that the cuts to the budget are the important part, but cuts without economic growth will only lead to a shrinking economy and political failure. Trump is all about growing our way out of the mud - something that we didn during the Clinton era, and even the Reagan era to a lesser degree.

As the Bible says "despise not that which begins small" Zechariah 4:10 . Jesus also said the Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed, a very tiny thing at the beginning which grows into a very large plant. Musk apparently never read his Bible.

At any rate I too want to see major cuts, but we have to be practical. The only cut Musk will make with this third party nonsense is to his nose, which will be entirely amputated to punish his face.

I once read a very interesting essay about Dicken's A Christmas Carol. In it the author argued that Ebenezer Scrooge's problem was he was raised under the old Mercantilist system and there was scarcity. The end result was Scrooge didn't look at wealth as something that can be created but rather as something to be saved, squirreled away. He gave nothing away because it was, in his mind, a zero-sum game. He had it and didn't want to lose it to some undeserving person. It never occurred to him that he could make more - and a lot more.

That's why the first thing the Ghost of Christmas Present did was take Scrooge to the markets and to the docks; he wanted Scrooge to see the immense bounty of goods and the wonderful nature of commerce. Scrooge had never really LOOKED at it before! GOC Present wanted Scrooge to understand that wealth is more than money; he didn't get that.

Musk doesn't get that. He thinks wealth and money are the same thing, and he is angry Trump hasn't cut more money from the budget. He fails to understand that a great deal of that excess money will be covered as economic growth brings in a huge bounty of wealth to pay off the debts.

Don't get me wrong; I like much of what Musk has done. He's the little boy telling the Emperor he's naked. But there is very little value in what he is doing right now. A third party would only waste his money and would hand the Democrats power yet again. THEY are the true enemy, not MAGA. If the GOP is spending too much money how much more will the Democrats spend?

For some reason he's blind to this.

We are at a moment of great decision in the U.S. - continue as a constitutional republic where the citizenry are free or turn into a European-style socialist state. Until Trump everything was moving towards the latter. What exactly is there to be proud of, to desire, in becoming Europe? I see little benefit, but many want that and that's what we could easily get if we continue down this road. Musk will facilitate that, even if unintentionally.

Again, remember the Little General, Ross Perot. Had Perot stayed out of two races this country would look very different, and in my opinion much better. Perot actually had a lot of good ideas, but he hated the Bush family (rightly, as it turns out) and preferred to put the Democrats in power than to choke it down and let Bush win (or Bob Dole). His pride and his obstinacy cost America.

Nobody remembers Ross Perot. That will be Elon's fate if he continues down this road. And America will fall.
