New research shows that total wildfire burn area has dropped by a whopping 26% even while the number of PEOPLE affected by them has increased 40%.
What does that tell us?
It tells us that climate change is not causing more and worse wildfires. On the conntrary it appears it's causing fewer. That makes sense if the world is getting greener and wetter, but the Gang Green, the alarmist crowd, says droughts are worse and this is causing more fires. They have it wrong.
It also tells us more people are living in areas that traditionally have suffered such fires, and that likely human activity (or lack thereof) has made these fire-prrone areas more susceptible.
And fully 85% of all fires worldwide happened in Africa which has long been called the "Fire Continent". Africa is subject to drought on a regular basis and with bad land-management ppracticies is ripe for large-scale wildfires. Do note that most of these fires (a whopping half) occurred in Congo, South Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia, and Angola. These are all dry Third World countries. The combined share for the United States, Europe, and Australia was less than 2.5 percent - despite the best efforts of Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass.
Of course this article goes on to jawflap about global warming and how it is making fires more intense (in direct oppostition to the data presented) and concludes climate change is causing more "fire weather". But that is the opposite of what the models all predict, which is more rain and more humidity.
Oh, by the way, deaths by drowning (an indicator of increased rainfall and storms) has declined 38% over the last few decades.
Doesn't sound to me like we have much of a problem either way. Fewer and weaker fires and less drowning. What more can one ask for?
My father had a rather dim-witted uncle who lived with my great grandmother in the wilds of southeast Missouri. She was driving into town from her farm and told him "don't let the fire go out no matter what". She got home to a cold house "what happened?" He replied "fire went out". That 's kind of where we are now.
