I routinely see posts on Facebook from people who want to see congressional term limits, or reduced salaries and benefits for those in congress. I believe that will only cause even more back-room legislative deals that will then allow them to be rewarded after they leave congress. Instead, why not do what private industry does? The more money you save for those paying the bills, the more money you make. In other words, pay congress in proportion to how much they CUT the budget.
...if some of them save taxpayers $50 Billion, give them a $5 Million raise. Win-win.

During the Civil War Missouri wanted to secede from the Union and join the Confederacy. There was a Constitutional Convention called to do that. The Unionists somehow wormed their way onto the hundred-man committee and voted to remain - despite the fact they were put there to leave. The state legislature declared them an illegal entity, but they were the legal government now.
It's why Missouri remained in the Union. The legislature eventually declared Missouri seceded, but they no longer had the force of law.
The Left has always understood how to coopt things to get their way.
