Democrat Bullies Force Out EPA Chief Pruitt

Timothy Birdnow

The Left claims a scalp.

Scott Pruitt, who has done a magnificent job as EPA administrator, rolling back the radical regulatory edicts coming out of the Obama (and before that Bush) Administration and restoring EPA to it's proper role, has been forced to resign over scurrilous false charges of corruption.

According to Fox News:
"In his resignation letter to Trump, Pruitt said: "It is extremely difficult for me to cease serving you in this role first because I count it a blessing to be serving you in any capacity, but also, because of the transformative work that is occurring.

"However, the unrelenting attacks on me personally [and] my family, are unprecedented and have taken a sizable toll on all of us," Pruitt added."

End excerpt.

This is bad. They have basically bullied and abused Pruitt into quitting - much like the Left did to members of the Nixon and Reagan Administrations. Take the principle lieutenants out and you get rid of competent leadership, you make others fear joining the Administration, and you give the media a way to frame the Administration as corrupt. It's evil and it should not be allowed to happen.

And don't think the liberals aren't thrilled at this. Ed Markey tweeted:

With Pruitt out and Andrew Wheeler at the helm, the EPA Administrator will no longer be #BigOil's right hand man, it'll be King Coal's best lobbyist. https://t.co/9PkZZqtQxU

And Nancy Pelosi tweeted:

One down with the resignation of @EPAScottPruitt, dozens more to go until we’ve drained the swamp of the Trump Admin’s toxic culture and corruption. #PollutingPruitt https://t.co/gDqP1gJxo0

What was Pruitt's crime? From the article:

"Pruitt resigned less than a week after The New York Times reported that the EPA's chief ethics official, Kevin Minoli, had been pushing for a series of independent investigations into several aspects of Pruitt's tenure. Those included Pruitt's rental of a Washington, D.C. condominium for $50 per night from the spouse of a prominent fossil fuel lobbyist, which was first reported in March.

Both Pruitt and the lobbyist, Steven Hart, denied he had conducted any recent business with the EPA. But, Hart was later forced to admit he had met with Pruitt at EPA headquarters last summer after his firm, Williams & Jensen, revealed he had lobbied the agency on a required federal disclosure form."

End excerpt.

Fifty dollars a night comes to $1550 per month, which is market value for the property. The only benefit Pruitt got was that he was able to rent by the night, which is something he needed as he was rarely going to be there. That is was a lobbyist who rented it to him doesn't matter.

It wasn't what he did. Sooner or later they were going to find something to use against Pruitt because it was all about forcing him out.

Here is another "crime" of Pruitt:

"Still other reports contained revelations of unusual security spending, including a $43,000 soundproof booth for making private phone calls. Pruitt also demanded 24-hour-a-day protection from armed officers, resulting in a swollen 20-member security detail that blew through overtime budgets and racked up expenses of more than $3 million."

End excerpt.

Gee; a man who has been receiving death threats from eco-terrorists wants security. How dare he!

So much of this - from Pruitt asking an underling to pick up his dry cleaning on occasion or getting him a used mattress - are clearly grasping at straws; these are things EVERY bureaucrat does. And the Left knows it.

Pruitt's replacement, Andrew Wheeler, is a former coal company lobbyist and worked in the Bush I and Clinton EPA. It's , but he has every reason to fear for his job - and reputation - if he continues Pruitt's policies.

That is the whole point; bully people and force them to heel. The Left does this all the time and our side lets them get away with it. We've got to start fighting back.
