As the current administration continues pouring resources into Ukraine without any statement of conditions for peace--this is what the U.S. wants to see happen and here's how it can happen--it seems clear the current administration actually does not want peace in Ukraine. The war continues open ended with undefined goals for at least two main reasons.
First, the Cato in (or pulling the strings of) the White House wants a war of attrition whereby Russia, which is a rival military power, receives the fate of Carthage. "Delenda est Carthago ('Carthage Must be Destroyed!') Destruction creates wealth and power for some.
Second, while the war of attrition goes on, those who found the corruption of the Ukraine government helpful in aiding criminal enterprises such as money laundering and sex trafficking want their piece of pie. Hence the interest in sending 40 billion dollars to the Ukraine government without any oversight.
We should be grateful for Rand Paul.
Tim adds:
I predicted war when Biden's poll numbers dropped below 45%. He HAD to have a war to shore up his ratings. And he needs it to last until the election at a minimum. But there's more. How many documents held by the Ukrainians are now being shredded under cover of Russian attack? How many Democrats are getting their evidence washed away? Furthermore, how much will the Ruling Class prosper from bringing the Eastern European breadbasket and oil supplier into the fold of the West? Also, how much are the weapons makers making? Meanwhile a rival for power on the global stage can be brought to heel. I see nothing but up sides for the endless war here.

But then, it's made his oil and gas more valuable so maybe I'm wrong.
You're right though; an angry Putin is a very dangerous Putin. Woe unto the inhabitants of the Earth for Satan comes down unto you with great wrath, because he knows his time is short.
