Likea bad Dracula movie the terrible policy of "net neutrality" in which government tells private companies online how to run their servers and thus effectively backdoors censorship is dead yet again as a Federal court has ordered it tossed out.
From the Blaze News article:
Democrats and others on the left issued histrionic warnings claiming that net neutrality would save the internet from evil corporations that would stifle online access to sell it to the highest bidder. Opponents like former Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Ajit Pai argued that the government should avoid micromanaging the internet.
'It’s time for regulators and activists to give up on this tired non-issue once and for all and focus on what actually matters.'
On Thursday the appeals panel issued a ruling ending net neutrality.
President Joe Biden issued an executive order in 2021 calling on the FCC to reinstitute the policy after Pai ended net neutrality under the first Trump administration. The appeals panel said in its ruling that the FCC did not have the proper authority to order the rules. It is unlikely that the incoming Trump administration will reinstitute neutrality, but proponents might seek a review of the decision by the Supreme Court.
Net neutrality is a scheme wehereby the FCC (which did not have much in the way of regulatory powers in the past) claimed the internet as a "public utility" and forced it to not throttle back on servers. The reality is that has to happen with the internet because there is just too much stuff out there. So the FCC would then have regulatory power over the internet, and would impose rules of conduct (like stopping what they deem as "misinformation") and end the internet as we know it. It would become just like commercial television; subject to the rules set down by government bureaucrats.
The Left has pushed this idea for years now.
At any rate this ruling kills the monster yet another time, at least until we have a definitive court ruling from SCOTUS.
