Well, they screwed the pooch here so it's no surprise they are covering but still this is all too common these days, protected groups get a pass or the claim is made there was no way of knowing when in fact there was every reason to suspect but the police didn't want to investigate transsexuals or whatnot out of fear of being accused of targeting them.

And speaking of this twisted teen, the police have now been caught in a lie. They claimed there were "no red flags” with the shooter, but there actually were. Two that we know of, and likely a third.
NBC News:
More than seven years before Robin Westman opened fire on a Catholic school as Mass was underway, killing two children and injuring 17 more worshippers, police were called to a townhouse in the Twin Cities suburb where she lived with her mother.
The heavily redacted police report NBC News obtained from the police department in Eagan, Minnesota, is dated Jan. 26, 2018, and it includes a two-word description explaining why an officer was dispatched to that address: mental health.
It also includes a brief synopsis that reads "assisted Mendota Heights with a check welfare of a juvenile.” Mendota Heights is another Twin Cities suburb.
The name of that juvenile and what exactly prompted police to be summoned to the three-bedroom home on Crane Creek Lane were blacked out in the report.
Two years before the mental health call, police responded to a report of a "criminal offense” at the residence, according to a police report. But beyond noting that the case was closed, the report blacks out all the details describing the event.'

Minnesota has a red flag law that went into effect in January 2024, allowing family members and others to petition the courts to have guns removed from a person they believe poses a threat to themselves or the community. The state passed a law in 2023 requiring gun buyers to pass universal background checks and to obtain permits for pistols or semiautomatic military-style assault weapons.
Police are also now claiming there was "no indication” the teen had any mental illness, but those earlier reports clearly said otherwise. More from NBC News:
But it does not appear any alarms were sounded as Westman amassed an arsenal that included the rifle, the pistol and the shotgun used in the attack on the church.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said Thursday that authorities do not have information indicating that Westman suffered from mental illness and that, other than a traffic ticket, she did not have a police record.
"There is nothing in the investigation so far that would lead us to believe that anything was missed,” O’Hara said.

There is a severe dearth of information here. Mendota Heights is many miles from Eagan and even farther from the church that Westman shot up. It is often identified as West St. Paul. Are we sure the incident described there is describing the same person? With all those redactions it could well be someone else entirely.
And shortly after the "incident," there was a Fox News article by a supposed Mental Health care professional who lived in the same residence unit that Westman lived in, and who knew Westman, and who states unequivocally that he never at any time saw any "red flag" behavior from Westman. And, being a Mental Health care professional, he says he would have spotted it immediately.
I'm not betting two cents on the idea that there's any kind of coverup! Nope, not at all!

I don't know Dana; a casual neighbor is hardly a guy in a position to make a diagnosis from a lack of information. Certainly the shooter was cagey enough to not cut his hair before the deed to avoid tipping his hand by his own admission. Not every disturbed person tips their hand.
That said you are in a far better position to know what is happening than am I or most of our readers.
How much local reporting even mentions he's trans? We aren't getting that from the national news by and large (except Fox and a few others).
The very lack of information suggests a coverup, but does in no way PROVE a coverup, methinks.
