Claire McCaskill was for Crony Trade before she was Against it

Timothy Birdnow

Brian sends this our way. Looks like Claire mcCaskill is running scared And, as always, she is full of more balogna than a first rate deli in New York:

Did you see this article on the front page of the St. Joseph News-Press? It's about my testimony last week on behalf of Missouri's soybean and biodiesel producers, which create more than 17,000 jobs in our state.

READ THE FULL ARTICLE:
"McCaskill eyes ‘level playing field' in biodiesel market"

I wanted to make sure you saw it because protecting jobs in our state, and making sure that Missouri industries can compete on a level playing field, is so important to me. In this particular instance, millions of gallons of biodiesel fuel from Argentina and Indonesia are being dumped into the U.S. far below market rates because of unfair subsidies provided by those countries. This could seriously jeopardize our producers, our workers, and our economy. According to the USDA, soybeans brought in more than $1.8 billion to Missouri farms in 2015.

That's a lot of money, and those are a lot of jobs—and I'm not going to stop standing up for hardworking Missourians until everyone has a level playing field to work with.
All the best,

End

Well, well, well...

On May 22, 2015, the Senate passed HR 1314, which gave Barack Obama fast track trade authority, allowing him to negotiate trade deals requiring only a simple majority of the vote in the Senate. Known as the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) the bill basically allowed Obama to make deals with countries like Argentina or Indonesia. She was roundly criticized by her own base for this.

According to the article:

""We’re disappointed in her vote, real disappointed, and we weren’t able to get a face-to-face meeting with her to really sit down and have a good dialogue with her,” said Emil Ramirez, Midwest region director for United Steelworkers in Kansas City, Mo.

Ramirez said he was disturbed that McCaskill’s vote helped "grease the wheels” for the Obama administration to complete the negotiations on the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership.

"All workers in this country are going to be damaged by the passage of this agreement, he said.

Said Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa in a statement: "Yet again, workers have been tossed aside by some lawmakers who are more interested in pleasing their corporate cronies than doing what’s best for their constituents.”

Communication Workers of America, a union for telecommunication and information technology workers, had protested outside McCaskill’s office earlier this week.

The union said Tuesday that McCaskill and the other senators who voted in favor of moving ahead with the fast-track authority bill "showed beyond doubt that they’re on the side of the 1 percent, not ordinary Americans, not working families and not U.S. communities.”"

End excerpt.

In fact her support for foreign free trade deals have enraged her union base as she seems uncaring about exactly the type of problem she is now complaining about. She has been a huge supporter of dumping foreign goods on the U.S. market without concern for the fairness of reciprocity.

she voted to approve massive subsidies for farm products via approved the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013. A good chunk of the Farm Bill gave money to farmers to grow soybeans and corn for fuel additives. Seems she is happy to subidze a loser economic move but not happy when another country outdoes her.

So Claire has been happy to support Fleece trade agreements when her Democratic buddies have been in power. In short, she helped make the problem in the first place. Now she's talking tough because her party lost so many of the labor union people that they lost hte last election.

Boy, is she running scared!

But she chooses ethanol as the issue to make a stand on, because there is nothing of value to defend here and she knows it. We have plenty of oil and nobody but environmentalists and crony farm corporations want to support this useless industry which costs everyone who buys fuel for their cars or trucks. There is no value in the biofuel industry as it is a solution seeking a problem. But Claire saw the tea leaves and knows she must look tough on the abuses of Charlie Brown trade agreements, so she has chosen the most liberal problem to defend. Atagirl!

Look, any idiot should have been able to see that these deals were going to hurt U.S. markets. We are dealing with corrupt, statist entities and so "free trade" is hardly free as our partners will press unfair practices. You can only have truly free trade if the trading partner plays by the same rules and few are willing to play by ours. It's like sending out a flag football team against the Pittsburg Steelers or a team of figure skaters against a junior league hockey team; they just aren't playing the same game and the gentler ones will lose because they can't compete. I always thought George W. Bush was wrong on this free trade business. See, it's never been about people trading but countries, and they set all kinds of rules. Unless those rules are standardized there can be no free trade, and our partners are looking to get the best deal out of us. McCaskill should have understood that.

And no doubt she did but her party wanted this. So she went along with it, and gave us the very problem she promises to fix.

mcCaskill is nothing but a hypocrite. If she weren't she'd support Donald Trump's plan to renegotiate these deals, but she won't because she is a loyal Democrat soldier first. It's time everyone see her for the corrupt weasle she is.
