Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority leader who wants to truly be a "minority" leader, voted against a qualified judicial nominee solely because the man was not black.
According to this post in the Federalist Patriot:
"Schumer stated, "The nomination of Marvin Quattlebaum speaks to the overall lack of diversity in President Trump’s selections for the federal judiciary. Quattlebaum replaces not one but two scuttled Obama nominees who were African-American.â€
Schumer, who must think "minority leader†means something else, further explained, "As of Feb. 14th, 83 percent of the President Trump’s confirmed nominees were male, 92 percent were white. That represents the lowest share of non-white candidates in three decades. It’s long past time that the judiciary starts looking a lot more like the America it represents. Having a diversity of views and experiences on the federal bench is necessary for the equal administration of justice.†So, to put it bluntly, Schumer voted against Quattlebaum because he is white."
End excerpt. A couple points to ponder. First, 36% of Obama's appointees were minorities. If it is discriminatory to nominate too few blacks or Hispanics, isn't it equally wrong to nominate too many? Now, according to the American Community Survey the white population is 73.6% owhile blacks make up just 12.6 and Hispanics make up 17.1%. That comes to 29 plus percent. if you add the five percent of Asians and you get fewer minorities than Obama appointed in total. Obama appointed one percent more minorities than their total numbers as a percentage of America. So Trump has to restore balance by nominating more whites, if we are to use the reasoning of Schumer. And that assumes Hispanics are not "white" which is in many ways ludicrous, as the children of many Hispanics are indistinguishable from their European descended cousins.
So we must subtract 17.1 percent out if we are to be honest - and that brings us down to a fraction of what the Minority leader seems to think is right.
Another point; if Mr. Schumer is so worried about exactly modeling the "looks' of the country why doesn't he himself step down? He's Jewish, after all, and Jews are a scant 1.2% as of 2008. By his reasoning, he should step down and so should Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. So should Stephen Breyer. And Elena Kagan. At best, SCOTUS should only have someone with a Jew in their ancestry.
Furthermore, six of the nine Justices currently on the Supreme Court come from the Northeast. Isn't that discriminatory to the rest of us?
Oh, and Chuck is eager to promote minorities but only when they dovetail with his Progressive agenda. Take the case of Alberto Gonzales. Schumer led the charge to have Gonzales removed as Attorney General under Bush. Schumer and company held hearings over the firing of some U.S. attorneys - a completely legal and legitimate act by any President. Gonzales (President's counsel at the time_ refused to allow himself to be manipulated by Congressional lawyers and Schumer demanded his resignation.
In 2007 Schumer authored a no confidence resolutioen to oust Gonzalez as AG.In a disgraceful display of partisanship and the politics of personal destruction Schumer forcedA the first Hispanic attorney General from office. Strange how his attitude towards minorities has changed in the years since. Now a white man can't be a judge even though at the time he refused to support an Hispanic man, one who would llikely have had a Supreme Court seat had Schumer not destroyed him.
The hypocrisy in Chuck Schumer is galling to put it mildly.
