Christianity is Not a Suicide Pact

Timothy Birdnow

Maybe Tom Homan should fly the deportees to Vatican City, since Pope Francis is so eager to embrace them.

Homan Calls Popes Bluff, Highlights Vatican Walls

I am not kidding; it worked in New York City. Ditto in California. The public was furious at the huge influx of illegal aliens when before they were just fine with Red states having to accept them. Not In My Backyard is a real thing.

So Francis can house them in St. Peters and in his own residence. He's always bragged about his care and concern for the poor; let him show it now.

The Gospels make it quite plain Jesus had limits to what he was giving. There were times He tried to dodge the crowds, and avoid being recognized, because He knew there were limits to what He could do. In fact Jesus once got in a boat and rowed away just to avoid the crowd. What does that tell us? It tells me that we are supposed to give charitably but there are limits and we are not expected to give until it ruins us. This immigration business is about America giving far more than we can and it is ruining us.

Shel Silverstein wrote the classic children's book The Giving Tree that illustrates the point I'm trying to make here. The tree gave and gave out of love and the boy took and took until the tree was no more, burned up as firewood. That is what has been happening to America.

At any rate the Gospel of John 10:1 shows how Jesus saw things:

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber."

And yet here we have Pope Francis demanding we accept thieves and robbers into the sheepfold, and do so until we destroy our very substance as these folks take and take.

Christianity is not a suicide pact.

It's easy for the likes of Francis, who has never actually lived with the consequences of policies he advocates. He was always protected by his offices in the Church, going well back to his days in Argentina. He now sits in a fortress inside a place so xenophobic it's a private country, complete with its own military and border guards watching the gate. But America must keep giving and giving and if it should collapse well, that's the price of discipleship, or so Francis would console himself.

Maybe Il Papa needs a lesson in empathy. A few ten thousands of illegal aliens might give him a new, more Godly perspective on things.

1 I wonder if Francis' problem is that he's from a country that for many years has been economically impoverished, which probably gives him a skewed perspective. The previous two popes didn't have that economic problem, and they didn't have that perspective issue either. Do you suppose we could get the College of Cardinals to put a codecil in their instructions for picking the next pontiff? Because this current guy is doing a lousy job of it!

3 Perhaps Dana butt I think it's a chicken or egg question. Argentina was believed by most historians and observers in the early 20th century to be the next coming power and that because it was "the United States of South America" with almost identical natural resources and in a prime position for explosive economic growth. The problem is Argentina embraced fascism along with the U.S. (under Wilson) but we walked away from it (by and large) while Argentina put Peron in power and has kept putting the Peronistas in charge periodically ever since. They are Fascist, very similar to Mussolini's group. They support draconian regulations on the economy along with central planning and "social justice".

Francis came out of that, and in fact I saw parades for him down in Buenos Aires by Peronistas celebrating with signage saying "A Peronista Pope".

So Francis is a Fascist.

Fascism now has a bad reputation because of the war, but in bygone days it was loved as more "compassionate" than free market capitalism. You may  remember the song "the Tops" where it says "you're Mussolini". Until Hitler came along and exposed it for what it was dimwits in the West thought it was just dandy. And that continues today with the modern Left being almost entirely Fascist in thought and deed.

Such brings extreme poverty and always will because it stifles initiative and hard work.

Francis is someone who didn't belong anywhere near the Papacy as he lacks any clear understanding of human nature and of what God wants. God can fix poverty any time He likes; He CREATED poverty as one of Man's punishments. God wants us to be CHARITABLE for our own sake more than for the sake of the poor; he doesn't want  Caesar to do it because Caesar uses force to accomplish that goal, and Caesar will screw it all up. He told US to do it.

Francis is a typical modern type, perfectly willing to help others and the expense of others. He won't do it himself.

4 Well, as I said, he has a skewed perspective. Anybody who embraces socialism of any flavor has a skewed perspective. Because it doesn't work.

5  They just found 3 billion reasons why the Pope acts like he does.
