Bill Gates, "Weather Scientist"

Jack Kemp

AOL News reports that Bill Gates offered his "expertise" in weather with these words:

BEGIN QUOTE

Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates on Wednesday rebuked a claim made a day before by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott that put the blame for that state's massive cold-weather power outage on the failure of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar.

In fact, extreme weather like the winter storm that swept across the country in recent days will become more likely as climate change worsens...

END QUOTE

First of all, assuming - for a moment for the sake of argument - that Gates is right about climate change, the premise of Gov. Abbtot that renewable energy technology is TODAY not up to the task of supplying Texas' energy needs has not been refuted by Gates. If a dam breaks because of heavy rains then the dam wasn't strong enough and it is irrelevant what caused the heavy rains in dealing with the immediate problem or problems.

Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard as a freshman where he spent a lot of time playing poker, so I have to assume he didn't take a lot of meteorology or geology courses. Nor did he take a lot of mechanical engineering courses in which he would have learned how to design a wind turbine.

And Gates bought his first personal computer operating system called DOS for around $5,000 - he didn't design it. And Windows is "borrowed" from Apple which, in turn, "borrowed" the idea from Xerox. See the documentary film "The Pirates of Silicon Valley" and the tv series of the same name. And the PBS documentary on the topic explaining how a Xerox employee was forced to show early windowing technology to Steve Jobs but wouldn't do it until he made his bosses sign a statement saying he warned Xerox about possible theft of their ideas and the executives would not hold him responsible if if that happened (which it did). Gates also downplayed the significance of the Internet for too long a time when he ran Microsoft.

If a loved one had a broken leg, you would not take them to a tree surgeon.
