So trees will reduce crime? I suppose a baseball bat is made from trees, and a policeman could use THAT to club a criminal, but otherwise I'm not sure how they rationalize that.
This idea that there aren't trees in urban areas because of racism and "redlining" is preposterous at a minimum. It's because of population density, and that density is there because the urban areas tend to be more affordable. But outside of really dense places much of the cities have yards - if the poor do not choose to plant and tend trees how is that the fault of white people?

The Forest Service announced on Sept. 14 that it had allocated over $1 billion toward expanding "access” to trees, including 17 grant proposals that promote "tree equity” with a total value of $101,096,371. "Tree Equity” is a term first coinedby American Forests, a conservation nonprofit, that blames the lack of trees in minority neighborhoods on "redlining and other discriminatory policies,” according to the organization’s website.
The Forest Service argues on its website that planting trees will reduce crime and improve health outcomes. The grants are funded through the Inflation Reduction Act, Biden’s signature climate

No matter how you want to slice it, a willow tree (for example) is not the equal of a sitka spruce. Or a redwood. I suppose it's no good to tell Joe Biden that...
