The auto industry is a military national security issue.
In the 1930s, the country was rich in cars and cheap oil and gas. Our population was besotted with their cars and the freedom of travel and commerce they provided. The trucks revolutionized transpiration of goods and food.
Our superior mechanized (read cars and trucks with combustion engines and cheap oil and gas production) is a major factor in how we won world war II. Our armies could move lightening fast and with reliable fuel. In some cases the Germans still used war horses. They did not have the auto making capabilities of the USA. Taking down the auto industry for silly EV expensive golf carts is a national security issue. Just like steel production is.
Tim adds:
A brilliant observation. And here we have an automakers strike at a time when we have escalating tensions with Russia. How bright is that? Could it be perhaps Mr. Biden will take this opportunity to force a settlement, thus further cementing the hold the U.S. government has on the auto industry?
