Ashes Ashes We All Fall DOWN!

Diane Kimura

The size and reach of government continues to expand faster that private businesses and the economy.

The groth of government SLOWS economic growth and prosperity.

The chart shows that there are 2,418 federal grant or subsidy programs in 2023, more than double the number in 1990.

Each new subsidy program requires higher taxes or more federal borrowing.

Each subsidy generates a bureaucracy, spawns lobby groups, and encourages more special interests to demand handouts.

The rise in size and scope of federal subsidies means that Americans are losing their independence.

State and local governments, businesses, nonprofits, and individuals that become hooked on subsidies become tools of the federal government.

They have less incentive to work and innovate, and they shy away from criticizing government policies.

May be an image of text that says '3,000 Number of Federal Subsidy Programs 2,500 2,000 2,418 2,265 2,001 1,500 1,425 1,019 1,123 1,000 1,176 500 1970 1980 1990 2000 2010 2020 2023'

Tim adds:

Indeed. Every dollar taken out of the economy by government eventually returns - but only after passing through multiople sticky fingers. It is less productive money by far. When the private sector keeps its own money it spends it directly on goods and services while government filters it through multiople layers of people who divert it's use. Everything is about saving money, protecting money, in a big government economy, not investing money or paying people or building stuff. Everything is slowed down and scaled back. Only the seats of power do well in a big government system.

The growth of the American government is strangling the United States, no question. Yet too many have a vested interest in it so it continues to grow and snatch away wealth, and steal wealth from future generations so the bureaucrats can live well and the politicians buy more votes. After a certain point it all falls apart.

The Soviet Union did. And a Soviet analyst named Igor Panarin predicted the U.S. would fall from overspending, and while it has lasted longer than he thought I still believe he's right. We are going to fall in a spectacular way.
