Aron Eisenberg aka Nog RIP

Timothy Birdnow

The actor who played Nog on Star Trek; Deep Space Nine has passed away.

Aron Eisenberg, who co-starred on the '90's television show, passed away at age 50. While the cause of death was not released he had received two kidney transplants.

The character Nog was a young Ferengue who joined Star Fleet after growing up on the space station Deep Space 9. He was the son of the  dopey Ferengue Ram, a kind hearted alien and brother to Quark a snail eating, money grubbing, giant eared alien and  cutthroat bar owner and notorious  fencer of stolen goods.

At any rate, so many from the Star Trek franchise have passed away, and not all of them elderly. They may start talking about a Star Trek curse.

So let's wish the man Godspeed and say a prayer for his soul and his family.

1 RIP, indeed. My wife and I watched that series religiously, along with most of the Star Trek spinoffs (and Babylon 5 too, until it lost its focus near the end). In many ways, I thought Deep Space Nine was the most interesting of the ST series.
Nog's uncle Quark was a really "fun" character, as are many generally evil characters are. Quark actually did some good on occasion, though generally inadvertantly, and he ran a darn good restaurant and bar on the station as well. He wasn't able to get into all that much trouble because the shape-shifting head of security, Odo, was never far away, and you couldn't tell where he was.

2 Dana, I posted this with you in mind; I knew you were a huge DSN fan, and I rewatched the series on your recommendation and found it to be a pleasant surprise. I DID like the characters - particularly Quark, who was a truly mercenary SOB though sometimes showed hints of having some spark. I liked Odo riding his a, er, back the whole time, too. It was jolly good fun! I also liked the fact that they had the war with the Dominion, and it was grim and it was serious and there was no suggestion that a few friendly meetings and better understanding would solve everything (a bad habit in Star Trek, in my opinion.)

I found I really liked the show.

BTW, a local channel is playing reruns of Babylon Five, and I haven't been watching; perhaps I'll take a second look.)
