It's just sad watching modern politicians and their chums manufacture one pointless crisis after another.
We need to invade Afghanistan and wage a war on... wait... bail out the banks with trillions to prevent global economic... wait... flatten the curve to defeat ... wait...stop sea level rise and climate chaos... no, no, forget that - the real enemy is inflation and rising gas prices....
It's all a load of tosh!!! Very very expensive tosh.
And how amusing that they tend to start one crisis just as the last one ends. What a funny coincidence.
Tim responds:
Michael Crichton explained this. It's a "state of fear".
When I was in college I took an anthropology course and our teacher (a big leftist) talked a lot about social control. She argued that agrarian societies used shame for to control the populace; if you or your family broke the unwritten rules you would be ostracized and shamed.
Then, after industrialization, the tool was guilt; people followed the rules out of a sense of guilt. She hated that; said it caused depression and suicide and other horrible things, and it was clear she wanted a different social control mechanism.
While I took everything this woman said with a huge grain of salt I think she was at least partly onto something with this. And, as Michael Crichton observed, they have replaced these things with a new social control mechanism - fear. People no longer feel shame for even the worst behavior, nor guilt. What people respond to now is fear, and the universities generate a constant stream of it with one disaster looming after another. The media picks it up and runs with it, then the government enshrines it into law. But it's all a mirage. The disasters promised never materialize. But the powers that be get what they want by panicking the public with endless horror stories.

Here is a great commentary on how GMO, modern AG and increasing CO2 have benefited Indian agriculture. By friend and colleague Vijay Jayaraj
My grandparents survived a nationwide famine in the 1960s that pushed many Indians into abject poverty. Little did they know then that they would go on to become farmers producing some of the best rice and coconuts on the planet.

Impeach Biden for these 9 reasons. It all begins after the GOP takes back the House.
Many of these are not impeachable, alas; bad, yes, but not impeachable.
In my opinion there are several grounds for impeaching Biden.
1.Hunter Biden and the threat to withhold funds from Ukraine if they didn't sack the prosecutor pursuing Joe's son.
We have Joe on tape bragging about getting this prosecutor fired - what more do you need?
2. His refusal to enforce laws protecting the border. Biden's oath of office is to "faithfully execute the laws of the United States" then he simply disregards them.
3.Election skullduggery which allowed him to steal the election.
4.Using national security and law enforcement to attack and harass his political rivals.
Richard Nixon was facing impeachment in no small part for trying to use the IRS to investigate rivals. Biden has the FBI doing that for him.
5. Making threats against the American People and demonizing those who voted for his predecessor.
6.Establishing an agency whose purpose is to quell free speech. Yes, he gave up on his "disinformation agency" but the fact is he still tried to stifle the First Amendment.
7. Refusing to enforce the law to keep protesters away from the homes of Supreme Court Justices following their ruling overturning Roe V. Wade.
It is against the law to protest the Supreme Court at home - but Biden waived that inconventient little rule.
8. Using Executive Orders to waive student loans - something he has no authority to do.
9. Leaving American citizens in harms way in Afghanistan when he pulled out our troops. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-fewer-than-a-dozen-us-citizens-still-afghanistan-no-deadline
10. Pressuring banks to defund American oil companies by denying them loans.
I think each of these can be characterized as a high crime or misdemeanor. And while things like killing the Keystone XL, or giving his blessing to the Russian oil pipeline, or shipping arms to Ukraine, or a thousand other disgraceful acts are repulsive, they are not impeachable. I think these are.
The GOP should have these articles drafted.
If the Democrats hold the Senate the House can at least tie the donkeys in knots with an impeachment trial. But the GOP is scared of their own shadows and will probably not so much as file a non-binding resolution.
If there ever was a man who should be impeached and removed from office it is Joe Biden.

When one drills down a few strata into the Biden agenda, one finds a few pay zones capable of producing enough truth to make the well worth completing.
Today, I happened to pull into our local Sam’s Club to fill up my carbon emitting pickup and notice a couple of people pushing a Tesla over to the charging stations in the parking lot. It seemed the Tesla ran out of juice about fifty yards from the station and good old people power was needed to complete the trip.
I immediately thought about the ironic, contradictory situation in California of Gavin Newsom calling for no more internal combustion powered cars to be sold by 2035 and the announcement from the power folks asking people not to charge their EV’s due to a strain on the power grid.
Then I thought about the image of a $100,000 Tesla Model S being charged in the parking lot of a middle-class mainstay, a Big Box Retail Store.
The incongruity of that image made me wonder if the middle class is compatible with an all-electric future and the conclusion I drew is that the two are entirely incompatible.
The Biden administration is forcing the Green New Deal on America through various avenues, even though there are several significant limitations. First, as California can attest, there isn’t enough generating capacity to service all the EVs now, even though these vehicles form a distinct minority of the cars on the road. If that wasn’t enough, the purchase prices and repair costs are exorbitant as compared to good old dinosaur juice fueled vehicles and then we need to consider the car manufacturers simply aren’t capable of producing enough EVs to replace hydrocarbon burners retiring from the national fleet. Looking to the supply chain, even of the car folks could produce, they couldn’t because there aren’t enough rare earth materials to build enough batteries.
So, as I noted – significant limitations.
Given these constraints, why would Biden and the Secretary of Energy, Scary Spice Granholm continue to push this agenda?
Well, it probably won’t surprise you, but it isn’t really about electricity or electric vehicles.
It is about eliminating the middle class completely.
The aspirations of the American middle class are the primary reason communism never took hold here. I don’t remember which Soviet official said it, but it was said that as long as the happiness and optimism of the American middle class existed, there never would be enough unhappiness to sell communism. The problem was that even though a person in the middle class might never become rich, they all believed it was always possible. Combine that optimistic outlook with a good job and the American dream, and commies couldn’t find a receptive audience anywhere.
It seems that for the authoritarianis
To get rid of the middle
class, you just attack the things they use every day. Raise the price
of energy, food, housing through artificial scarcity created through
policy edicts – like forcing everyone who drives to buy a new $60-100K
car while oil and gas is prohibitively expensive. Then, if they can
afford an EV, when electricity becomes scarce, those prices rise,
squeezing even harder. In short, you break the middle class by making
them poor and forcing them into public transportation,
Pop goes the weasel, now the mobility of the former middle class is controlled.
It is only a short hop to there being only two classes with which to deal.
The move to EVs most certainly isn’t about the environment, it is about subjugating the middle class.

The long-awaited Ukraine Kherson front counter-offensi
In what is probably the biggest impending disaster for Ukraine a large force of Ukrainians (they easily outnumber the Russians on the ground) crossed the Inhulets River using three pontoon bridges and then advanced creating a narrow salient deep into Russian held territory. The Russians stopped their advance and then blew up all three pontoon bridges trapping the Ukrainians and preventing their retreat.
It seems that these encircled troops (several thousand) will have to surrender or try to fight their way out — wasted young lives if they choose the later.

Biden has already started walking back the speech - but it's too late, the Prog Zombies smell guts and brains, and are on the march.
The
scary thing is they don't get that Biden is filled to the eyeballs with
bullshit rhetoric and like Ron Burgundy, will literally read anything
put up on a teleprompter...
His zombie horde believes there is an organization called Ultra MAGA that is led by the Criminal Mastermind, the Grand Trumpian. They are idiot zombies of course, but idiot zombies do stupid and dangerous things without adult supervision.
I saw the stage play of "Caberet" a couple of years ago. At one point the male lead, an American named Clifford Bradshaw (the movie changed him to an Englishman played by Michael York) says of Berlin (paraphrasing) "it like a basement full of pre-teen kids without adult supervision, egging each-other on to do more and more dangerous stuff and wishing ann adult would show up." That's pretty much the modern Progressive movement today. No amount of craziness is ever enough. And sadly Joe Biden is in sore need of adult supervision but there isn't any. Cabaret was about the decline of the Weimar Republic and the rise of Naziism. I fear we are in the throes of a rising Nazi movement with the Progressive/

The ruse of Fiat Currency is that a person can look at a $5 Federal Reserve Note and think that another note with $100 Dollars printed on it differs somehow from the $5 Dollar note they hold, when the only real difference is what image printed upon it. The intrinsic value of both notes are the same cost of paper and ink.
All fiat currency systems must "piggy-back†on Sound Money to get a start in the minds of people to be accepted as currency. The ruse is complete when there is no longer actual equitable value of the Paper Note.
The Dollar is NOT now nor has it ever been a Paper Note; a Dollar is by legal definition a coin containing approximately an ounce of fine silver.
Legally, in the U.S. there is absolutely no codified statute that now defines nor has ever legally defined a "one dollar†Federal Reserve Note as the "Dollarâ€, nor even a species of "dollarâ€.
In fact, to prove that Federal Reserve Notes are not, in fact legally defined as "Dollarsâ€, the United States Code provides that all Federal Reserve Notes "shall be redeemed in lawful money on demand at the Treasury Department of the United States or at any Federal Reserve Bank.†Thus, Federal Reserve Notes are not, nor have they ever been "Lawful Moneyâ€, but only Notes that are useful and convenient substitutes for Lawful Money.
Now, given the fact that Federal Reserve Notes are not even "Lawful Moneyâ€, then it is completely illogical and in fact, intellectually inconceivable that they are, in any way, "Dollarsâ€, which is the only way that ALL United States money is expressed and thus codified in Law. It is, of course, easy to see from where the confusion stems just by looking at the history of the subversion of definition. Federal Reserve Notes from Series 1928 through Series 1950E were all inscribed with this Obligation: "The United States of America will pay to the bearer on demand [some number of] Dollars.†Wait, if that's the case then how can gold be "pegged†to Dollars if the definition of Dollars are not nor have they ever legally been Paper Notes? The confusion almost looks intentional doesn't it? Hmmm…
Now, the U.S. Dollar Notes [not FRNs] prior to 1934 carried the inscription: Redeemable in Gold on demand at the U.S.Treasury, or in Gold or Lawful Money at any Federal Reserve Bank.†So, if a dollar Note is NOT a Dollar then what is it and how can an ounce of Gold be "pegged†to something that is, in fact, NOT a Dollar but a Note that is nothing more than a substitute for a Dollar, nothing, in fact, but a receipt for a real Dollar?
Now the really interesting period of definition corruption came with the release of the Series 1963 Notes when the wording, and therefore the assumed definition, was morphed into that looks like it came from the Orwellian 1984 "Doublespeakâ€: "Will pay to the bearer on demand.†The question of course, should be: Will pay WHAT ON DEMAND? The Promise of Redemption just disappeared, never to be seen again and naturally not many people ever questioned why! Good Sheep that they were, and are!
So, this country moved from a sound monetary system to a substitute promissory receipt system to an IOU system that neither paid nor promise to pay the Note face amount in Real Dollars to an IOU system that can't even buy what the face amount promises to buy because of Inflationary Depreciation of the Fiat Money Substitutes.
A point of understanding should be however, that throughout the
metamorphosis of these Notes, not a single thing has changed nor can
they legally be transformed in their Legal character from mere Notes
into Money, they remain receipts for Money with no promises to pay. It
of course, should be obvious that if Federal Reserve Notes were not
Lawful Money (Dollars) when they promised to pay Lawful Money (Gold)
then it is legally and logically impossible for Federal Reserve Notes
to become Lawful Money or "Dollars†one it no longer promised payment
in Lawful Money, nor can promissory Notes be "pegged†to Lawful Money,
it would make no sense. It's been quite a Con-Job and the crazy thing
about it is that even really smart people have completely been
snookered by this monetary sleight-of-hand

On Facebook Dr. Roy Spencer gives us his opinion about the Drake Equations (in honor of the passing of Dr. Frank Drake, father of the famous equation which alleges to use probability theory to "prove" there is alien life in the universe.)
An equation with 7 probabilities multiplied together, and the value of none of the terms is known. Astronomy as a science is... questionable.
Tim responds:
I couldn't agree more Roy! I've always thought the Drake Equations were a bunch of hokum. Nothing is actually defined. It's rather like Keynsian economic theory; a bunch of fudged variables.
May as well be the work of Paul Krugman. It's at his quality level. Or Michael Mann.

The supply of new homes in the US crossed above 10 months in July. Every time it’s been over 10 months in the past, the US has been in a recession. Increasing supply, higher interest costs, and falling demand.
While rents have surged 15% over the last year, mortgage payments have surged even more. The ratio of mortgage payments to rents is approaching 1.5x, its highest level on record.
US home prices have risen 40+% over the last 2 years (source: Case-Shiller Index). The mortgage rate in the US has risen to 5.98%, its highest level since 2009, the last crash. A year ago, it hit an all-time low of 2.10%.
The reduction in the Fed’s $9-Trillion balance sheet has been slow, only decreasing by $139 billion AND assets are still higher than where they started the year. Much more 'tightening' to come.
Given how far the Fed remains behind the inflation curve (2% Fed Funds Rate vs. 8.9% Inflation Rate) it would probably come as a surprise to learn that the US Dollar Index is at its highest level in 25 years. This is BECAUSE Europe's gap between interest rate and inflation is even wider than the Fed’s. Eurozone inflation is 9.1%, its highest level EVER. Meanwhile, the ECB only recently abandoned their NEGATIVE rate policy by moving back to 0%.
The only years on record with more volatility in Stocks:
1930s-(Great Depression) 2002-(Dot-Com Crash) 2009-(Global Financial Crisis) 2020-(Covid Crash).
NOBODY can predict the future. Hopefully, information is power. Use it wisely.
Please share these facts. It is doubtful the Media will tell it like it is.

The rumblings and outright statements by notables and political groups like WEF of a goal of massive population destruction....
Humans are not a blight on the earth, they are the culmination of evolution, a being capable of carrying high consciousness, capable of brilliant creativity, capable of great nobility, a huge advance on the animals of the earth. Humans have self determination, they are not totally controlled by their instincts. They have self consciousness, not simple consciousness of the animals that drift on whatever forces they encounter. Some humans even attain super consciousness and more and more are gaining that. Humans give the earth meaning. It is not just a ball of mud crawling with ephemeral insects in a quiet corner of a meaningless universe. Humans have the spark of the divine.
The population numbers were climbing but reaching stabilization. The incredible modern civilization and advance in longevity and lifestyle came out of the growing population numbers. This has happened in the past 400 years. A nearly miraculous jump in evolution for humans.
This is my theory. It takes a level of population to produce geniuses
and the engineers and mathematical expertise to build an enlightened
civilization. Geniuses comprise 3% of the population. A tiny,
approximately 5% of the population with the characteristics
When political or economic groups of so called elites call for reduction in population, they are destroying themselves and the structure of civilization. Their dreams of a world of 500 million slaves to support their potentate lifestyles is not possible, a small population will not form such a world for the elites. It will devolve back to the stone age, become feral with tribal warfare and the elites will be eaten for dinner.
Thoughts?
Tim adds:
We are going to go back to the Bronze age or worse if we continue down this path. We cannot maintain a high tech society with so few people and so little brainpower. Civilization will fall.

Zuckerberg's admission to Joe Rogan that the government, dozens of FBI agents, contact FB continuously about what content to censor, may be his way of now attempting to get out from under them. Otherwise, if he is on board with them steering his company, why would he out them?
Tim adds:
I think when Facebook had such an enormous loss he realized he was slicing his own throat. That doesn't mean he's going to let people speak their minds, but he needed an excuse. How far he pulls away from all this is anybody's guess, but in the end he believes in the woke nonsense and in censoring opinions that disagree with his chosen ideology.

Pretty much every invention has been brought to life because it made the human condition better in some way. It is simply impossible to think of all the innovations just since we landed on the moon and not think, "Dang. What would we do without stuff like that?"
Each one of those innovations has been a response from the free market to some demand, some need. No collective mind sitting in a concrete walled office said, "You know what would make life easier for people? Little pieces of colored paper with a light, reusable adhesive strip on them. We'll just order the Federal Department of Sticky Paper to invent something."
Nope.
Post-It notes came in 1968, when Dr. Spencer Silver, a scientist at 3M in the United States, attempted to develop a super-strong adhesive and failed. Miserably. What he did develop was a low strength, reusable adhesive he then tried to get 3M product managers interested in, but couldn't. Long story short, a colleague named Art Fry, picked up on the idea to create a reusable bookmark using Silver's glue. Still didn't catch on. It wasn't until 3M gave free samples to consumers in Boise, Idaho, and 94 percent of those who tried them indicating they would buy the product. Post-It notes then went national after people stuck them to everything and soon, everybody in the US had them in their desks at work and at home.
Silver and 3M didn't force people to use the products, eventually people figured out they would work better than any current solution - and the products took off.
Their time had come. There was a market for them.
If there had already been something better suited for use, nobody alive today would know what a Post-It note is.
So why hasn't that same philosophy worked with "green" energy?
The answer to that question is that there already is something better suited to the problem at hand.
They are called fossil fuels. There is nothing that has the high energy density, the lifetime of safety, the abundant and constant supply, the portability, the ease of use, and the relatively low cost of fossil fuels.
The main issue is portability, which gives rise to the question, just what energy need are we trying to solve?
Transportation use of fossil fuels only accounts for 33% of all usage of fossil fuels (data from Statista dot com), the rest goes to residential, commercial, industrial and the rest for generating electricity (over 60% of all electricity is generated using coal or natural gas). The issue for the electricity zealots is the fossil fuels are not only fuels, but they are also the feed stocks, the raw material, for thousands and thousands of products necessary for modern life. From fertilizer to plastics to medicine, things are made from fossil fuels.
Electricity cannot match that usefulness.
Electricity is not a prime resource, unlike fossil fuels, it must be manufactured.
But beyond the inability to compete, no matter how many of the technical issues that exist today are improved, the transportation economy based on electricity will always carry significant limitations a fossil fueled economy never will.
So-called "renewable" energy sources simply cannot compete with all the advantages of fossil fuels, so rather than the people discovering a need for them (thereby creating a demand), government is forcing the market to accept them through a variety of carrot and stick approaches. Forcing Obamacare into the insurance market did not meet any of its stated goals, just the opposite – while it did subsidize people in the lower brackets, it disrupted the insurance industry, raised premiums and deductibles, and generally made insurance more expensive for everyone.
The real story of Obamacare is that there are just as many uninsured today (adjusted for population increases) as there were when Obamacare was fully implemented, only now it is more expensive.
That is what happens when something the market doesn’t want or need is forced on it by government.
If the so-called "Greens†truly wanted a win, nuclear power could eliminate every coal and natural gas fired power plant – but they don’t want a win, they just want to fight.
The "climate wars†are now a moral crusade. The environment has taken a back seat.
The reason Post-It notes succeeded is that there was a market for them. The reason so much of the "green economy†isn’t successful is the opposite – there is no market for a product that only works part of the time, can be shut off at will and cannot be used as a raw material.
The Green economy is just the next Obamacare.
