Belarussian Dissident Presidential Candidate Resists Forcible deportation
Timothy Birdnow
This is one brave lady! She's lucky she didn't just "disappear" after that. She may yet.
A detained Belarus opposition
leader prevented officials from forcibly expelling her to Ukraine by
tearing up her passport and throwing it out of a car window at the
border
From the BBC article:
On Monday Maria Kolesnikova was forced into a van by masked men in Minsk.
She is one of three women who joined forces to challenge President Alexander Lukashenko in August's election.
Mass protests erupted after the disputed vote.
"She
was pushed into the back seat (of the car), she yelled that she wasn't
going anywhere," Ms Kolesnikova's colleague Anton Rodnenkov told a news
conference in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Tuesday.
Mr
Rodnenkov said he and another colleague had been kidnapped on Monday,
driven between buildings, and interrogated with hoods over their heads
and their hands tied.
They
accepted an offer to leave Belarus with Ms Kolesnikova but when the car
reached the border she refused to cross. The two men told journalists
they did not know where she was now.
[....]
The three were taken to the border with Ukraine by men in plain clothes early on Tuesday morning, Mr Rodnenkov said.
But when the car reached a checkpoint between the two countries, Ms Kolesnikova prevented her deportation by ripping up her passport and throwing away the pieces, he said.
"It was clear that she was being taken by force, she was resisting," Mr Rodnenkov said.
"She climbed, climbed from the car and she walked proudly to Belarusian territory," Mr Kravtsov said, adding: "She's really a hero. You must understand that. She's very dedicated to what she's doing now."

China's Cultural Imperialism
This from Stephen Heins:
To critics, the policy bears a chilling resemblance to measures rolled
out in the regions of Tibet and Xinjiang, where Mandarin has replaced
ethnic minority languages as the instruction language in most schools.
It also reflects a shift in the Party's policy towards more aggressive
assimilation under President Xi Jinping, as evident in the harsh
crackdown on the mostly Muslim Uyghur minority in Xinjiang.
How China's New Language Policy Sparked Rare Backlash in Inner Mongolia
A NOTE FROM TIM:
China now has the
largest navy in the world. The Chinese are determined to not only establish themselves as the top military power on Earth and now have the tools to enforce their will but also want Asia to be their cultural vassal. They have been filtering illegal aliens into Siberia for decades now, and whole towns exist there that have no allegiance to Moscow. The Chinese will wipe out the independent culture of Tibet, as well as any other that stands in the way of their cultural hegemony in Asia.
From the CNN article:
Under the new policy,
Mandarin Chinese will replace Mongolian as the medium of instruction
for three subjects in elementary and middle schools for minority groups
across the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, home to 4.2 million ethnic
Mongolians.
Authorities have
defendedthe adoption of a national standardized curriculum -- which comes with
Chinese textbooks compiled and approved by policymakers in Beijing --
will improve minority students' paths to higher education and
employment.
But parents fear the
move will lead to a gradual demise of the Mongolian language, spelling
an end for the already waning Mongolian culture.
To critics, the policy bears a chilling resemblance to measures rolled out in the regions of
Tibet and
Xinjiang,
where Mandarin has replaced ethnic minority languages as the
instruction language in most schools. It also reflects a shift in the
Party's policy towards more aggressive assimilation under President Xi
Jinping, as evident in the harsh crackdown on the mostly Muslim Uyghur
minority in Xinjiang.

Jews "Need to Check Their Privilege"
Timothy Birdnow
This was inevitable. The Swastika is rising from it's Fatherland grave.
Top Democrat Tells Holocaust Survivors To Check Their Privilege
From the Federalist:
Democratic Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) defended his colleague
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) by reasoning that she is higher than Jews on the
pyramid of intersectionality. In an interview with The Hillon Wednesday, Clyburn trivialized Holocaust survivors when he implied
that Omar’s time in a Kenyan refugee camp outweighed the experiences of
Jews.
Her experience, Clyburn argued, is much more empirical —
and powerful — than that of people who are generations removed from the
Holocaust, Japanese internment camps during World War II and the other
violent episodes that have marked history.
"I’m serious about that. There are people who tell me, ‘Well, my
parents are Holocaust survivors.’ ‘My parents did this.’ It’s more
personal with her,†Clyburn said. "I’ve talked to her, and I can tell
you she is living through a lot of pain.â€
Clyburn is the third-highest ranking Democrat in the House
End excerpt.
Jewish folks better wake up to what they are unleashing. They will be shocked when people like Omar try to put them in newer, higher tech death camps.

Unbelievable! I'd say that if Omar is living with so much pain, we vote her out of the House and let her go home to deal with all that pain. Clyburn too.

Self-Immolating Jihad
Warner Todd Huston:
On Sept. 11, radical Islamic terrorists wanted to stop capitalism, end
Christian churches, tear down the U.S. flag, and make people hate
America. They failed. But where the radical Islamists failed to affect
all this "change," the Democrat Party has succeeded.
Tim replies:
Good point Warner. Why have we not been attacked in the last few
years? Because the Jihadists know they don't need to bother. You get
out of the way when your enemy is self-destructing.

U.S. Mail Being Dumped in CA
Timothy Birdnow
Oh yes; America is going to do just fine with the Post Office delivering mail-in ballots.
From the article:
Bags of mail were dumped in a parking lot in Glendale, California, last week, according to surveillance footage obtained by CNN.
The
September 3 video shows a Budget rental vehicle backing into the lot of
7Q Spa Laser & Aesthetics. A person is seen exiting the vehicle and
tossing numerous bags off the back of the truck into the lot. Minutes
later, the person gets back into the vehicle and drives away -- leaving
the bags of mail in the lot.
The USPS denies postal workers were involved. I guess these were just Democrats getting in a practice run.
California is burning. With all this extra fuel from dumped mail, is it any wonder?

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that you're probably right, that this is a dress rehearsal. But if there are ballots in the "abandoned" sacks, they are more than likely to be Democrat votes. Just how many Republicans do you believe are going to "vote early and often" this way? Really?
My wife and I can't be the only ones who intend to mosey into our usual polling place (a local church) come Election Day, to vote the time-honored American way. OTOH, we don't expect to encounter a passel of BLM thugs when we do -- there is that. . .
Posted by: Dana Mathewson at September 08, 2020 09:18 PM (HEmKM)
2
Well that is true Dana. But then, I don't think this is even about who would be receiving these votes as much as being able to SAY the election was messed up. It's about chaos. Then after the election they will keep finding ballots in places like river levees, junk yards, etc.
I plan to vote at the polls. I do not trust mail-in, and I especially don't trust anything this election.
Posted by: Timothy Birdnow at September 09, 2020 07:40 AM (XKEAy)
3
Tim, do you think perhaps this little stunt was staged precisely to demonstrate just how "porous" mail-in voting can be? We've been saying for a long time that it hurts our side. Maybe somebody's trying to show that it's dangerous for the other side too. Just sayin'.
I hate to think there may be pay checks or welfare checks in that abandoned mail, so it could all be bogus mail.

Hmm....interesting theory. Could be!
Yeah; a lot of people are losing important stuff thanks to it.
And it still might be postal incompetence, except it is now coming to light as people are looking at it more carefully. We've always had stories about mail carriers throwing the mail out.

On One of Trump's Military Critics
Timothy Birdnow
So, retired Lieutenant General Mark Hertling says the officers he knew are "furious" at Trump over his allegedly calling soldiers "losers" and "suckers". Is that any surprise?
Well. Hertling is an analyst for CNN, so that should tell you where he
stands politically. He also was promoted by Obama and quit in 2013, no
doubt because he didn't want to serve under Trump. He
trashed
the idea of a military parade, for instance, when Trump proposed
it. He has
trashed
the President in the past.
From the 2016 WaPo article:
"They
won’t refuse,†Trump said during Thursday’s debate on Fox News.
"They’re not going to refuse me, believe me. If I say do it, they’re
going to do it. That’s what leadership is all about.â€
Hertling forcefully disagreed, calling the Republican front-runner’s management style "toxic leadership.â€
So saying the military follows orders is "toxic leadership"? I
don't know when this schmuck attended basic training, but he really
needed a refresher course.
He also says:
"Somebody needs to remind Mr. Trump that the military is not his palace
guards,†Hertling said. "They take an oath to defend the Constitution
of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. They
also abide by the rules — not only of the uniform code of military
justice, the UCMJ — but they also abide by the U.N. mandate against
torture and the Geneva Convention protocols against torture.â€
So it's clear this guy has an ax to grind.
He's also clearly a Progressive.
This from CNN's About page:
"Hertling also commanded Initial Military Training (IMT) from 2009 to
2011. In that role, he was responsible for the initial training of
approximately 160,000 officers and enlisted Soldiers entering U.S. Army
training at 27 installations across the United States. Hertling led
significant change in training methods, revising the Army's Warrior
Tasks and Battle Drills and developed innovative training in rifle
marksmanship, combatives, values instruction, first-aid, and cultural
training. His introduction of the "Soldier-Athlete" initiative brought
changes in Physical Readiness Training and performance nutrition."
He's one of these new age soldiers who want the military to be a social service.
So I don't believe a word out of his mouth.

Biden sympathy ploy about late son in Iraq - who was probably poisoned by open pit garbage burning
by Jack Kemp
Joe Biden was recently
confronted by an Air Force veteran concerning Slow Joe's support for the Iraq War, about which the veteran said:
"I’m an Air Force veteran. I’m here with an Army veteran. We are just
wondering why we should vote for someone who voted for a war and enabled
a war that killed thousands of our brothers and sisters, countless
Iraqi civilians?â€-
In an attempt to change the subject, Biden talked of his late son Beau, who was an Army attorney who served in Iraq (he late died of cancer back in the States).
But what Biden left out, probably because he may not know this, that his son and many other Iraq and Afghanistan veterans inhaled toxic fumes from garbage burned in open pits on bases as a contractor was allowed to do this rather than be required to burn the garbage in enclosed, high heat incinerators.
This abuse of our troops, often called "the Agent Orange of our time," occurred under the Obama-Biden administration as well as the George W. Bush administration.
What proof do I have for this outrageous claim? There is the book The Burn Pits" written by former Sgt. Joseph Hickman, of Army Intelligence and currently an attorney connected with the Seton Hall University Law School.
For those of you who don't have the time to read a book, you can also see the follow up documentary film "Delay, Deny, Hope You Die" on Amazon Prime video (no cost for Prime members) which again features Joseph Hickman, as well as various doctors and an attorney fighting to help veterans who were made ill by these toxic fumes.
So once again Biden wants sympathy for the injuries his son, who was in perfect health when he first arrived in Iraq, most probably suffered as he inhaled the fumes on base from the improper open burn pits. These open pits were allowed to exist by the Obama and George W. Bush administrations.
Nice tap dance around the facts, Slow Joe. But his asking for sympathy for his own administration's neglect of our veterans' needs - as he avoided addressing a California veteran's concerns about veterans' deaths suffered in Iraq - shows Biden had best stay locked down in his basement.
UPDATE: Some have said that Sgt. Hickman's book doesn't prove open burning is toxic, but Hickman points out the EPA wouldn't let you burn open garbage like this in any U.S. neighborhood. I'll go Hickman one further, namely if someone wants to "prove" the burn pits in Iraq weren't toxic, then we would have to overturn many EPA laws and let people burn trash and tires in their back yard. But we won't be doing that because open burning of waste is very toxic.

Attempts to Drive a Wedge Between Trump and the Military Should Rattle All Americans

From PJMedia comes the best article I've read so far about the Left's desperate plans to steal the 2020 election. I've read a number of articles so far today; this is so frightening I may have to start Happy Hour early in order to settle my nerves!

Very disturbing and probably fairly accurate, at least as far as some (perhaps a majority) of the Media/Democratic machine is concerned.
It's pretty obvious they are trying for a "color" revolution in America. Only it's all astroturf.

I don't know about Fiji or Bimini, but I do know Iceland is as far left as they come. Real hardcore socialists there.
I'd like to move everyone down the the Falkland Islands. The Falklands are the size of Connecticut with only 2000 people, despite being entirely habitable. They may have oil too. Settle there, declare independence from Britain, and remake America. Of course you would have to worry about Argentina trying to muscle in, but that can be overcome via a U.N. recognition of independence (which Britain would agree to as that is part of the U.N. charter.)

"Furious" Military?
Timothy Birdnow
I have little doubt the politically liberal generals who attended West Point (an Ivy League school) buy into this and are angry. But they wouldn't have voted Trump anyway. Probably the rank and file understand what Mr. Trump has done for them; bringing back the dead from Korea, raising military pay, promoting a military parade, taking off the handcuffs with ISIS and other enemies, rebuilding our military, etc. This has all the makings of a Hail Mary pass by the Media.
Retired lieutenant general: Military members are 'furious' with Trump over alleged comments on fallen soldiers
Retired Lt. General Mark Hertling said in a CNN interview that he
has spoken with active military members as well as veterans who are
"furious" after it was reported that President Trump called fallen
soldiers "losers" and "suckers."
"It's tough to speak out right
now if you're an active-duty serving general officer," Hertling told
CNN's Don Lemon while discussing the reaction to Trump's alleged
comments. "By not saying anything, they're saying a lot."
His
comment comes after The Atlantic reported that Trump canceled a trip to
the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018 because he was
worried his hair would become disheveled by the rain, and openly asked
senior staff why he should go to a cemetery that is filled with
"losers."
The Atlantic story also claims that Trump referred to Marines killed at the Belleau Wood during World War I as "suckers."
Herling went on to say in the Thursday interview that the military officers he has spoken with are outraged over the report.
"The
military, the veterans I've talked to tonight, they are furious about
this and they can't understand why people are still supporting this
individual who is doing these kinds of things," he said.

Europeans Stand Up to China
Timothy Birdnow
Europe is splitting from China.
Europe Just Declared Independence from China
From the Bloomberg article:
"China’s diplomats were already having a terrible year in Europe, but
this week they managed to make it even worse. At this rate, Chinese
President Xi Jinping may achieve the dubious feat of alienating the
Europeans faster and further than even U.S. President Donald Trump is
doing. Xi’s overarching objective in the region is to prevent the
European Union and the U.S. from ganging up against China. He was
hoping for a breakthrough at a summit with EU leaders scheduled for
Sep. 14. Originally slated to take place in Leipzig, it’ll be a video
conference instead, owing to the pandemic. But the stakes are high. So
Xi this past week dispatched his foreign minister, Wang Yi, to five
European countries for some preparatory sweet talk. Talk there was; it
just wasn’t sweet.
Wang showed up hoping to hear the softer tones to which he’s
accustomed from Europeans, who remain more eager than the Americans to
keep trading and doing business with China. Instead, he was surprised
at the amount of resistance he was picking up underneath the formal niceties.
But those dissonances were as nothing compared with his stopover in Berlin. Speaking to German reporters, Wang lashed outat the president of the Czech Senate, Milos Vystrcil, who had taken a
delegation to visit Taiwan, which China considers part of its
territory. Vystrcil would "pay a heavy price,†threatened Wang, fuming
that the Czech’s "betrayal†made him "an enemy of 1.4 billion Chinese
people.â€
This elicited a prompt response from Heiko Maas,
Germany’s foreign minister. Standing next to Wang at their joint press
conference, Maas reminded his visitorthat "we as Europeans act in close cooperation†and demand respect, and
that "threats don’t fit in here.†The EU wouldn’t become a "playthingâ€
in the Sino-American rivalry, he added. Colleagues from France,
Slovakia and other European countries quickly backed him up.â€
Looks like the Euroweenies are finally growing a spine.

Some advertising in the Days of the COVID

I don't do this as a rule, but for the sake of a great project my wife's daughter is running, here goes. First, explanation from my wife:
Hi, Friends!
My daughter, Regina
Zona, has an ongoing effort to provide some support to the very hard-hit
world of artists. Her GoFundMe page and her collaborative recording
efforts are outlined in her email below. It seems that there are yet
even more institutions which are closed for good.
She

it would be wonderful if you could join us in watching. She lives in
the Eastern Time Zone, so I assume that the 7 PM she lists is Eastern,
but I think that you can log in around the time and be able to watch the
entire event. That is according to my "vast knowledge" of live
streaming -- not!
Thank you so much!

#FriendsArtistsMusic is going LIVE! |

Dear Friends,
I hope this email is finding you well and safe. I simply can't believe it is September 2nd! Where did the summer go?
I have been so humbled by the response to my collaborative project, #FriendsArtistsMusic.
I have created 16 collaborative music videos with some beautiful
musicians, videoed 3 interviews, and 2 video introductions - that means
21 different outfits, 6 different set designs, and countless numbers of
fake eyelashes! I'm really proud of the art that we made.
AND we have raised $1800 so far! We are only $1200 away from our goal!
The fundraiser will be ending on September 15th.
Only two weeks left to make our goal. And in celebration as well as a
last push to reach the $3000 mark, I am planning a LIVE STREAM event on
September 11th on Facebook and YouTube. I will be singing a few songs LIVE and chatting with a few of my collaborators and friends. I hope you can join us.

The news continues to
become more and more dire. Columbia Artists Management, one the premiere
classical music representation firms, has closed it's doors for good
after 80 years in business. Hundreds of artists, including major names
that are the stars of the classical music world are now without
representation. Rehearsal studios in New York City, that have been the
backbone for Broadway and the theatre and music industry are now
shuttered for good. And now there is a rule that no bars or restaurants
can sell tickets or charge covers for music events for the time being
which wipes out the cabaret industry as we know it.
Artists need our help. And the three organizations that I am supporting
through #FriendsArtistsMusic - dell'Arte Opera Ensemble, the Artist
Relief Tree, and the Hochstein Music School - are keeping the arts
alive. PLEASE help if you can!

Anyone who donates $500 or more will receive a personalized video message and SONG from me! |

| Below are my two last collaborations. Please check them out and SHARE! |
|
| This fun little ditty was a ball to sing and I was so happy to share it with the incredibly talented, Jim Lowe.

Yes, you can't navigate through that huge page. Sorry, it's the limitations of this website's coding. You CAN get to her YouTube page to watch this, however, by clicking where it says YouTube.
And to go to her site and find the videos, go here:

The reason I'm shown with a sax is that I was expecting to play sax -- actually, tenor sax -- on one number. However, when I dragged it out to record, I found it was in need of ministrations by my repairman, so I opted to play clarinet instead. She already had the photo of me with my alto sax and used it.

Gas Lights and Covid
Timothy Birdnow
Had an interesting discussion on Facebook I thought worth reproducing. Frank Lasee was arguing we were being gaslighted, and he reposted something from another post (and I won't reproduce it here because I don't know it's origin) and one of his friends disagreed.
Bill Ulmer states:
I disagree on several points:
1. New York is where the virus really took off. The cities are crowded. They also got it under control first.
2. I don't recall people looting, assaulting others or rioting peaceful
protesters. But most of the people demonstrating were peaceful.
3.Systemic racism. 45 years ago when I was on active duty in the Army
we called it institutional racism. Since then I think things have
gotten better, but inequalities still exist. We have to find a way
forward without burning down what we already have that is good.
4.Immigration. The U.S. does admit the most immigrants. But it's wrong
to call a whole group of people drug dealers and rapists, wrong to not
treat asylum seekers without compassion, and terrible to separate
children from parents as a policy of deterrence.
5. Communism vs.
Capitalism. No one really disagrees with capitalism's ability to
generate wealth. But most of the wealth is accumulating at the top
while social programs are cut. Exactly opposite of what should be
happening.
Sorry for the lengthy of my reply. But thank you for the
thought provoking article. I hope you and others see it as a
presentation of different views. Always liked our discussions Frank.
Take care.
I reply:
Bill Ulmer I disagree on all points.
1. The city of New York became infected early but hardly got it first. And it is now under control primarily because they killed off all of the people who were vulnerable thanks to DeBlassio and Cuomo's policies of putting the infected into nursing homes. Naturally, if you kill off a lot of vulnerable and the healthier catch it and develop immunity you are going to have a drop in infection rates and mortality.
Also, there are more cities than New York or Chicago in the U.S. and not all of them had rates this high. The fact is, three states - all run by Democrats - are where most of the infections occurred; New York, New Jersey, Massachussetts. And why is it only now starting to hit L.A. so hard? Aren't they a huge international destination? Most American cities are run by Democrats, I might add, and they have been employing the same policies.
2.Saying "most of the people protesting were peaceful" is rather like saying "most of the coronavirus entering someone's body is not threatening." The fact is violence is ubiquitous at all of these "peaceful protests" which by definition make them NOT peaceful.
3.I agree, but find our way forward where? We would disagree on where the BLM folks want us to go, which is to a socialist state.
4.Nobody called everyone drug dealers and rapists. I assume you are talking about Mr. Trump who called drug dealers and rapists drug dealers and rapists. His point - obscured by the media - was that we are getting a lot of bad people COMING HERE ILLEGALLY.
As for that cage business, President Obama was the one who put the kids in cages, and it has been proven that the photos being bandied about came from the Obama era. Yes, children are being separated temporarily from their parents but a.it's the fault of the Democrats, who will not fix the law which allows whole families to waltz in via "catch and release" b.it's the fault of these kids parents who chose to take them on a dangerous journey to break our laws and violate our sovereignty and steal jobs and resources from America. We do not flinch when it comes to imprisoning the parents of children who committ other crimes. It is always understood that the parents are at fault. Now, however, we are told it's our problem.
5. Capitalism is Natural Law, not a theory. A nation of small businesses is not the kind of economics that accumulates wealth all at the top. That is called corporatism, and was the economic model of National Socialism. You do not understand the difference. Corporatism aka crony capitalism is the stepping stone to socialism as even the communists understood during Mussolini and Hitler's era (First Brown then Red was a slogan of theirs.) The fact is capitalism means people trading for their mutual benefit. Socialism is artificial; it forces people to work for the benefit of others. It is not productive.
Oh, and how many social programs do we need? How many do we have now? Seems to me we keep adding more and more and they accomplish less and less. Under a capitalist system people donate money because they choose to, and the distribution is more logical and fairer as a result. Charity works far better than a big government program. America is far more charitable than any other nation. Rising government programs kill off private charity, and the money they spend takes it away from those who would grow the economy. The best charity is a good job market. Meanwhile it lines the pockets of the rich and powerful.
America does have a huge wealth gap. Doesn't it occur to you that that gap has grown precisely in an era where we have increased the size and scope of government?
Anyway, that was a thoughtful reply to Frank but I just don't agree at all.

Sorry, Timothy, capitalism is not a "natural law." It is an economic system supported by national laws. It has, generally speaking, been a successful and prosperous economic system but, when perverted by greed, can produce less than wholesome results. When it does so, the problem lies not with the system, but with those who allowed it to become perverted.

Bill you are technically correct but you're kind of splitting hairs here. Capitalism in it's pure form IS Natural Law. It started when the first guy who made a spear traded it for some food. Capitalism is in essence free trade between two parties. It was Adam Smith who defined it, and Marx who labeled it (as a pejorative) but its genesis goes back into the mists of time.
I would argue too that capitalism is not the problem but rather corporatism, which is where governments change the rules to favor certain people or companies.
Yes, corporations were born to protect ship owners from losing everything; the joint stock company limited liability. And that led to what? The Merchantilist era where governments pretty much controlled business and favored a colonial empire you were forced to trade within. America was born out of a desire for free trade, I might add. Merchantilism did produce for the public but nothing like the bounty that came about when the restrictions were removed and European governments started allowing free trade.
But free trade has to be free, which it generally is not these days. Large corporations and nations cooperate to give us a fascist-style economic system which is heavily regulated, heavily taxed, and so stifles competition.
With all that said, I stand by my claim Bill. Capitalism is ultimately people saying what they want and making a fair and free exchange. It's what would happen without government interference, which means it is in fact a form of Natural Law.

"Capitalism in it's pure form IS Natural Law. It started when the first guy who made a spear traded it for some food.â€
No, when the guy traded a spear for food he established
mercantilism.
Capitalism is the ability to invest capital in the establishment of economic entities (in return, it should be noted, for an ownership position in those entities), and it required that the state provide laws to provide the structure for that exchange of capital and to regulate the nature of that investment.
"I would argue too that capitalism is not the problem but rather corporatism,â€
I would certainly not argue with that. The working and middle class enjoyed unparalleled prosperity during the 60’s and 70’s, and the economic system under which they did so was capitalism. The problems that arise have to do with how capitalism is or is not regulated, the manner of that regulation and the degree to which corporations corrupt governance.
"Yes, corporations were born to protect ship owners from losing everything;â€
No, they were not; without capitalism shipowners would have had nothing to lose. Capitalism was born so that the shipowners could raise money via investment to build their ships and fill them with trade goods.
Posted by: Bill H at September 08, 2020 08:50 AM (vMiSr)
4
"But free trade has to be free,â€
It can never be unregulated, because if it is it will devolve into monopolies and work to the disadvantage of the consumer. The problem with regulation is when corporate money corrupts government such that government regulation protects corporations rather than protecting consumers. The problems then is not capitalism, nor regulation. The problem then is government corruption.

Bill, again I think you are splitting hairs here. Capitalism is at it's core the same trade that was conducted by that ancient paleolithic guy. You are calling that merchantilism, but I too will now split hairs; merchanitilism is something quite different. Wikipedia (hardly a good source) defines it as:
"Mercantilism is an
economic policy that is designed to maximize the exports and minimize
the imports for an economy. It promotes imperialism, tariffs and
subsidies on traded goods to achieve that goal."
That said, I won't split hairs here; we are both talking about the same idea of free trade.
I would draw your attention to the Encyclopedia Brittanica definition of Capitalism:
"
Capitalism, also called
free market economy or
free enterprise economy,
economic system, dominant in the Western world since the breakup of
feudalism, in which most means of production are privately owned and production is guided and
income distributed largely through the operation of
markets."
You will note that this is exactly the system that was in place in our caveman scenario. Bill, trading goods is in fact investing in capital. It has nothing to do with joint stock companies and the like; it predates such things.
What the joint stock company did was provide a mechanism where multiple people had part ownership to minimize risk. Again, it was intended to protect people who wanted to do overseas trading (as it was common to lose ships.) My point stands, and is in no way incorrect. You say:
"No, they were not; without capitalism shipowners would have had nothing to lose."
I beg to differ Bill; they had precisely EVERYTHING to lose if their ship went down. And ships went down all the time, which is why the joint stock company was invented by the Dutch, who also invented insurance for the same reason. Yes, it raised capital, but it also meant splitting dividends, no? But if you lost a ship that was a shared loss, too. I once read that a quarter of all long-range trading vessels never returned; they were pirated or sunk or whatnot. That's a huge disaster for an individual. For a corporation, not as bad.
I agree; in a large scale economy there has to be some regulation, or you would have monopolies and other bad things (like companies building factories and dumping toxic waste in people's back yards.) I get it. The key is to have a minimum of regulation, as little as possible. Big corporations corrupt that, and work in partnership with big government. It is exactly the kind of economy the Fascists and Nazis employed, the stepping stone to socialism (which they rightly understood it to be, as did the Marxists who had a saying "first brown then red".)
But Bill if government regulated government seeks more regulation, and the corruption comes FROM THAT REGULATION. The human heart is corrupt. It's our nature. Corporatism is an inevitable outgrowth of letting government grow beyond acceptable bounds. What starts as regulations to keep the public safe or avoid unfair business practices become tools to prevent smaller companies from challenging the big boys. It moves the economy to corporatism. That is why so many billionaires are also left wing; they spent their lives manipulating the government to their benefit, and seek to do so in future.
That's why Chesterton supported what was called Distributism, which was capitalism small c. It meant small business private enterprise. Chesterton once stated "the difference between a capitalist and a socialist is the capitalist has a bigger paycheck". Again he was talking about the corporatists, not the small business style free enterprise.
I am not saying you are wrong on anything you said (well mostly not) but that I think you are rather splitting hairs with me on a lot of this. We are pretty much on the same page.

The Neige Word!
Timothy Birdnow
I remember a big stink when a guy used the word niggardly. Now this:
Cornelius Carroll
"I wrote on Thursday about USC Business School professor Greg Patton
(who, among other things, is a specialist on business in China) being
taken out of his business communication course, and being replaced by a
different professor. Prof. Patton's offense: In a discussion of "filler
words," such as "um" and "er," he gave the Mandarin "neige" (literally,
"that") as a foreign example—and he pronounced the word, as do many
other Mandarin speakers, similarly to "nigger." The word is apparently
indeed used, routinely, as a filler word in Mandarin.â€
If Employers Believe that Hearing the Mandarin Word "Neige" (Meaning That) "Affects" Black Students "Mental Health"
Anyone remember the
David Howard affair? Howard was an aid to D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams and was fired for using the word "niggardly" in comments. This may be even more onerous as it uses a CHINESE word that isn't even that close. What's next? Canning someone for mentioning the African nation Niger? Talking about a guy carving out a nice niche for himself? Anybody saying their name is Nigel? This is surreal.
BTW the word Niggardly comes from a completely different root than the racial epithet.
The word Niggardly comes from Middle English Nygard meaning Miser. It probably came from Old Norse hnǫggr. The racist term is a derivation of the word Negro, which itself means black or dark. It came from Spanish and Portuguese. These are completely different words.
But this is even worse; Chinese has zero connection to any European language and nothing whatsoever to do with race.

Lies My Climate Alarmist Told Me
Timothy Birdnow
Here is a good article by Vijay Jayaraj at World Net Daily about the lies of the climate mongers. While I don't usually link to WND, which I consider a tabloid, this is worth reading. Vijay Jayaraj is a prolific climate blogger and someone not to be taken lightly.
From the article:
In fact, climate activists exaggerate weather events (short-term and
local) as climate events (long-term and global to regional) and
misrepresent regular incidents as unprecedented ones.
Last month, I came across a retweet by Greta Thunberg, a globally recognized climate activist. She retweeteda tweet showing recent flooding in India. The tweet was preceded and
followed by a series of tweets that highlighted allegedly
climate-driven natural disasters in an attempt to drive home the need
for climate action.
It was surprising for me to learn that Greta and others portrayed
the regular summer rainfall downpour in India as something
unprecedented and use it as an arsenal to promote their climate
doomsday narrative.
India is in the midst of its summer rainfall season. Also known as
the monsoon, these rains are the lifeline for India's 1.3 billion
people. They are a boon, not a disaster as Greta and other activists
claim.
[...]
There have been no significant changes in rainfall pattern, according
to scientists at the Indian Meteorological Department. To claim
otherwise reveals ignorance of the real climate in the region.
Read the entire article; it's well worth your time.

The Democrats Plan to Steal America
Timothy Birdnow
Conservative HQ delineates a possible scenario where Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats steal the upcoming election.
Read it here.
As we have explained in several columns the Democrats do not plan to win the 2020 election. Instead
they plan a coup, for which the Republicans and perhaps the Trump campaign appear to be totally unprepared.
The reason for this apparent lack of preparedness is that the GOP
and the Trump campaign assume they are facing the conventional Election
Day threats of being inundated with mail-in ballots, garden variety
vote fraud, such as individuals casting multiple in-person ballots, and
the chaos attendant to conducting an election in the midst of
media-generated pandemic hysteria.
All those things will happen, but they are not what will determine
the outcome of the election in the Democrats’ favor. To get rid of
President Trump and to seize power permanently Democrats will rely on
the principles of unconventional warfare.
Here’s how it will work:
Go to CHQ to see just how it will work.

Frightening! It is, however, a worst-case scenario, where all the elements have to be in place.
And the assumption that the GOP has no clue about this is, after all, only an assumption. The first element, that polls in Republican districts won't open, is rather pusillanimous, it seems to me. Why are Republican poll workers assumed to be more cowardly than their Democrat counterparts?
And I don't quite buy the idea that the military would stand idly by and watch the President be swept out of office by these tactics. He's the guy who's had their backs ever since he's been in office.

I agree Dana, but I've never lost money betting on the pucillanimous nature of the GOP.
As for the military, what can they do? As for as they are concerned they would be following the law as what Pelosi would do would be legal.
I don't think it likely BUT I do see it as a possibility.

Stoking Fear and Hatred
Timothy Birdnow
This from Elliott Davis at Fox 2 News St. Louis:
On this day in history Sept 6
The People’s History
6 Sept, 1921 - U.S.A. Ku Klux Klan
1921 : Members of the Police in Connecticut are investigating the Klu
Klux Klan who are recruiting members by proposing "Preserve The Ideals
of A Pure Anglo Saxon Civilization." To join the Klan new members must
donate $10.00. It is believed the Klan is growing quickly and the
police department is concerned over racial attacks when it reaches full
strength.
I reply:
First, how many Klansmen are there today? Virtually none. I don't know
about this "police think it is growing" as there are NO statistic
provided by anyone. So who says it is growing? Those who seek to divide
and dominate, that's who. And IF it is growing why? Could it be because
black racists and terrorist white BLM types are using violence on white
people? I do not condone the Klan in any way whatsoever, and the world
will be a much better place when those scumbags are gone, but the
reality is they prettty much are except in the minds of those who need
a bogeyman to gin up support for an ideology and a political party.

I agree with you, Tim. And frankly, the idea of a "pure Anglo-Saxon civilization" is pretty funny if you know your history. The Angles and the Saxons were two separate Germanic tribes who were anything but pure, or especially desirable, and certainly not very civilized; though in view of the Normans who opposed them, they seemed "romantic" enough. The Normans were a development of the Vikings, by the way: the name "Norman" developed from "Northmen," or so I read years ago, though none of these definitions are necessarily cut-and-dried. The world was a pretty hairy place in those days.
Suffice to say that styling oneself on a "pure Anglo-Saxon" model is rather precarious, sort of like the way Hitler postulated a "pure Aryan race" for Germany, and it turns out no such thing ever existed outside his own twisted mind.
Posted by: Dana Mathewson at September 06, 2020 01:55 PM (oiwMO)
2
Excellent points Dana! And the "pure Anglo-Saxon race" also was an admixture of Dane (the Danes ruled England a while before the Norman invasion, and they had the Danegeld, which was under Danish law in Britain), and of course they intermixed with the Britons, the original Celtic peoples of England - who became the Welch - as well as the old Roman stock, and with the Scots and Picts. And the Normans who invaded included second sons and other noblemen who needed land which William promised to any who helped him in the invasion, and so the Norman army was full of Germans, Romanians, Czechs, etc.
Pure Anglo Saxon is purest fantasy. The British are mutts, plain and simple. It's why Americans were not much bothered with settlers coming from all over; it was an old tradition.
Posted by: Timothy Birdnow at September 07, 2020 07:56 AM (QbVSy)
3
Oh, right. Can't forget the Picts and especially the Scots. They really added to the fun at the same time they watered down the purity. I can't say much about the Picts because I never met any, at least to know about it; but the Scots are usually P'd Off and you don't want to mess with them then, especially if they've been drinking!
And didn't the Jutes figure in there too, somewhere, or were they from further South?
Posted by: Dana Mathewson at September 08, 2020 01:23 PM (HEmKM)
4
Yeah; the Scots were a rough and tough bunch! I can't say I know any Pics either, but then I have never been to Scotland and who can say?
The Jutes may have been part of the Danegeld, but I can't be certain. I know Denmark has a section called Jutland, which I assume is named for the Jutes. The Battle of Jutland was the only time the German navy ever challenged the British directly, and that was off the coast of Denmark during WWI. The Germans lost, but not badly, but it showed their navy wasn't any better tha Britain's and it was smaller so eventually it would be destroyed.

Trump Uproots Critical Race Theory in Government
Timothy Birdnow
Two questions: why was this there in the first place and what took the Trump Administration so long?
Trump orders halt to all Critical Race Theory training in federal agencies: "This is a sickness"
From the article:
Full text of Vought's letter:
* * *
It
has come to the President's attention that Executive Branch agencies
have spent millions of taxpayer dollars to date "training" government
workers to believe divisive, anti-American propaganda.
For
example, according to press reports, employees across the Executive
Branch have been required to attend trainings where they are told that
"virtually all White people contribute to racism" or where they are
required to say that they "benefit from racism." According to press
reports, in some cases these training have further claimed that there
is racism embedded in the belief that America is the land of
opportunity or the belief that the most qualified person should receive
a job.
These types of "trainings" not only run counter to the
fundamental beliefs for which our Nation has stood since its inception,
but they also engender division and resentment within the Federal
workforce. We can be proud that as an employer, the Federal government
has employees of all races, ethnicities, and religions. We can be proud
that Americans from all over the country seek to join our workforce and
dedicate themselves to public service. We can be proud of our continued
efforts to welcome all individuals who seek to serve their fellow
Americans as Federal employees. However, we cannot accept our employees
receiving training that seeks to undercut our core values as Americans
and drive division within our workforce.
The President has
directed me to ensure that Federal agencies cease and desist from using
taxpayer dollars to fund these divisive, un-American propaganda
training sessions. Accordingly, to that end, the Office of Management
and Budget will shortly issue more detailed guidance on implementing
the President's directive. In the meantime, all agencies are directed
to begin to identify all contracts or other agency spending related to
any training on "critical race theory/"white privilege," or any other
training or propaganda effort that teaches or suggests either (1) that
the United States is an inherently racist or evil country or (2) that
any race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil. In addition, all
agencies should begin to identify all available avenues within the law
to cancel any such contracts and/or to divert Federal dollars away from
these un-American propaganda training sessions.
The President,
and his Administration, are fully committed to the fair and equal
treatment of all individuals in the United States. The President has a
proven track record of standing for those whose voice has long been
ignored and who have failed to benefit from all our country has to
offer, and he intends to continue to support all Americans, regardless
of race, religion, or creed. The divisive, false, and demeaning
propaganda of the critical race theory movement is contrary to all we
stand for as Americans and should have no place in the Federal
government.
This is an example of how personnel is policy AND of how Trump fails in not being properly ideological. Trump should have been on this immediately. He wasn't because he is about nuts and bolts and ignores ideology. But ideology is the root of the problems in Washington; the Left has marched through every institution there and imposed their revolutionary ideas. You cannot fix any problem in America without first uprooting the poisonous weed that has grown in our midst.
And this President looks at resume's first and not at what people believe. It's why he's had so many terrible appointees.
I do think he's learning though. It's too bad it's taken him four years to finally figure this stuff out.

I don't think Trump has failed at anything. I think he was waiting for the very best time to spring this, and found it. This will cause even more discombobulation among the ranks of the Left, at a time when they are having to figure out ways to pull Joe Bite-Me across the finish line with enough real votes to pave the way for a Kamala Harris presidency. In other words, I think Trump and his people are masters of strategy and timing, just as they were when they fired James Comey.
Mark my words: this will be a major distraction for the racist Left! They thought they had a winner by saying Trump was belittling the military -- that proved they are at the end of their rope. Now Trump just yanked some more of that rope out from under them.

Trump knows how to fight. He has been biding his time. The smear campaigns of his opposition take time to conceive and execute. He knows that. He knows how long they need. He waits in the weeds. When the time is too short for them to mount an
organized smear campaign, the he will strike. Now is the time for the little hits, like executive orders prohibiting racist training in government. Later this month you will see him bring out the big guns and really piss them off.

I constantly read the smaller articles as well as clarify their motives, and that also happens with this article!

Fox Joins with the Atlantic
Timothy Birdnow
Jennifer Griffin at Fox News is trying to corroborate the Atlantic story claiming Trump badmouthed the military.
From the article:
"Mark Levin added: It’s not clear to me what sources they’re talking
about here. Two of the four anonymous sources used by the Atlantic
confirm to Fox what they told the Atlantic? If so, that’s meaningless.
But they remain anonymous, which means we the public cannot scrutinize
these sources. And the press exists for us, not the press itself. It is
we the article seeks to influence. Moreover, the numerous people on the
record who deny what the anonymous sources reportedly said are
unimpeachable and, even more, are willing to be scrutinized. No need to
circle the wagons, either. That doesn’t get the public the facts to
draw their own conclusions.â€
Absolutely correct.
And why would we believe Fox anyway? James Murdoch, who's pretty much running the show for his father these days and wants to be in good graces with the Ruling Class, donated over
a million dollars to the Biden campaign.
And Griffin has always had it in for President Trump. See
here, and
here .
Griffin was one of the women who accused Roger Ailes of sexual harassment, I might add.
And she spoke with FORMER Administration officials. Gee, I wonder who? McChrystal maybe? Did it never occur to her that perhaps speaking with disgruntled ex-Administration members might produce a false positive?
If this happened there is no reason why these guys can't go on record. That they remain "anonymous sources" speaks volumes.
I don't believe anything this succubus has to say.
And this supposedly happened in 2018; why is it only coming to light now, just two months before the election?

Frankly, Tim, I wouldn't have said "Fox joins with the Atlantic." She's no fox.

Maybe something like "One Fox correspondent joins with the Atlantic" or something like that. But when you have a guy like Bolton, who isn't exactly bosom buddies with the President, shooting the whole thing down, that kind of says something about its credibility.

Oh, in a bar, now, are we talking? Whole different smoke... remember the country song about how the girls always get prettier at closing time?
Musician friend of mine once said "I never went to bed with an ugly woman. Woke up with quite a few..."
