Escape from East St. Louis; a Samaritan's Tale

Timothy Birdnow

In an era of endless bad news it's nice to read a good story once in a while. Here is just such a storyl.

A surgeon on his way to Belleville, Illinois broke down in East St. Louis, a city as dangerous as any in Honduras or other desperate Third World areas, at night. Dr. Bill Daily, was near 26th Street and Bond Avenue in East St. Louis when he hit a pothole in the road and flattened his tire. East St. Louis is no place to be after dark, and the desperate surgeon - on his way to perform heart surgery - limped to the only open gas station, where the doctor discovered the rim of the tire on his Mercedes wouldn't hold air. A man working there - Mike Austin - drove Dr. Daily to the hospital in nearby Belleville to perform his surgery.

This may seem like a normal act by a Good Samaritan, but in East St. Louis it was nigh unto a miracle; Daily was lucky to get out with his scalp, much less his wallet and passables. Yet he found a decent man in Austin, who was willing to help him.

Daily expressed his thanks: "In this time where there is so much animosity over race and religion, I found people willing to help each other regardless of these things,”

He was also quiet pleased to discover his car unmolested at the gas station several hours later, after he finished the surgery.

The owner of the ZX gas station - Muhammad Nasser - had stayed on duty despite the fact it was passed closing time in a very dangerous neighborhood to watch over Dr. Daily's vehicle.

Both Mr. Austin and Nasser refused any sort of payment.

Breaking down in East St. Louis is a very bad thing. It happened to me once, where I had a flat tire and almost had half the car dismantled by thieves as I was pumping up the tire. I wound up with a SECOND flat because people were letting air out of the tire as I was filling the other side! I wound up driving home to St. Louis on two flats, and ruined the rims, but was thankful to be out of there in one piece. There is a reason why the Griswolds had so much trouble in the movie Vacation in East St. Louis! It's a place that makes the ghetto in any other city seem like the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

(By the way, Vacation has the Griswolds crossing the Mississippi then going to East St. Louis, which is backward; they would have crossed over AFTER leaving America's premier Third World city, our modern Moghodishu.)

Let me paint you a picture of East St. Louis, Illinois; if you need to go anywhere you have to count the streets because the locals steal all the street signs. There are no street lights because they steel the bubls. My friend 7.b. Dave used to have to go there and he said you often had to drive over peoples weedy lawns because the road would be blocked by a junk car or other debris. There are all manner of abandoned factories and buildings, and sometimes people squat in them. A fellow I know actually leads tours of the abandoned properties there; it's become a cottage industry for photographers, to take pictures of such a place, as it is not like anything you will ever see inside America.

At any rate, three cheers for the two Good Samaritans! We need more people like that in this world

SpaceX to Launch Manned Moon Mission

Timothy Birdnow

SpaceX, Elon Musk's private space corporation, is planning to launch a manned Moon mission next year.

According to Breitbart:

"Musk said SpaceX is on track to launch astronauts to the International Space Station for NASA in mid-2018. This moon mission would follow about six months later, by the end of the year under the current schedule, using a Dragon crew capsule and a Falcon heavy rocket launched from NASA’s former moon pad in Florida.

If all goes as planned, it could happen close to the 50th anniversary of NASA’s first manned flight to the moon, on Apollo 8.

The SpaceX moonshot is designed to be autonomous – unless something goes wrong, Musk said."

[...]

"The paying passengers would make a long loop around the moon, skimming the lunar surface and then going well beyond, perhaps 300,000 or 400,000 miles distance altogether. It’s about 240,000 miles to the moon alone, one way.

The mission would not involve a lunar landing."

End excerpt.

It's about time; Mankind has been away from our twin planet for far too long, and a return to the Moon - even just to ride around her - will do much to reinvigorate human interest in space flight, and space colonization.

We need t settle the Moon. There are many who think we should go to Mars first, but why? We don't really know how, and if anything happens Mars is too far away to send assistance. It will also be out of communications with the Earth, thanks to the speed of light. And what would the point be to go there anyway? Robots can do basic research much more safely, and a permanent settlement would serve no commercial purpose - the primary motivation in any settlement project. None of this is true of the Moon, which would be commercially viable (think Helium 3, for instance) and would be close enough for settlers to go home if there is any problem. Oh, and they could be in the mainstream of life via electronic communications; there would be a 1.3 second time delay from Earth to the Moon. amd that does not vary, whereas Earth to Mars is anywhere between four and 24 minutes one way, depending on the planetary positions to each other. You could be online on the Moon, but have no such hope on Mars.

We need to learn to walk before we run. Lunar settlement is the training tool. Conditions on Mars are not all that different from the Moon, except it is farther away and subject to such niceties as sand blasting from the floating Matian fines (dust) and whatnot. The main problems - near vacuum, no magnetic field, low gravity, sparse water, etc. - are present in both cases. But the far greater distance to Mars make them real problems whereas the Moon can be dealt with, if nothing else by an infusion of necessities from Earth.

Why else did God place a planet just over our heads if He didn't want us to use it?

So let'sget back to Luna and get to it!

Invite Refugees to Hollywood Oscar parties, says Davi

Jack Kemp

What's the name of the nicest restaurant or hotel in Minneapolis, St. Louis? They'd make a great soup kitchen and homeless shelter. How about using one of the DuPont family homes in Delaware for a homeless shelter? Why don't the theater people in New York invite refugees to live with them in the Hamptons this summer? Why doesn't Barbra Streisand invite refugees to squat on the grounds of her beachfront property in Malibu?

Exactly Zero Hollywood Actors Took Robert Davi’s Oscar Challenge to Admit Refugees
Wait a minute, that can’t be true!
2.27.2017

Trey Sanchez

On Friday, Robert Davi challenged his fellow actors — the elitist of the Hollywood elite — to break down the security barriers at the Oscars, the tickets, and all the rules and invite illegal immigrants and refugees to sit amongst them and attend the swanky after parties alongside them.
No rules, just love.
But at last count, exactly zero actors took Davi up on the suggestion.
Davi, one of the few conservatives in Hollywood, knew even before the Academy Awards aired that no one would do this and that’s why he was there pointing out "the hypocrisy of it all” to Fox News’s Tucker Carlson.
Here was Davi’s proposal:

"I propose that Meryl Streep, Chelsea Handler, Richard Gere, Robert DeNiro, Christoph Waltz, and others lead an Oscar first: let’s do away with the rules, barriers, and tickets to the Oscars and after-parties such as the swanky Vanity Fair party or the Weinsteins’ star-studded affair. I ask all migrants, all illegal immigrant criminals, and all un-vetted refugees to converge on Hollywood, to come to the Oscars and all the after-parties, even those held at the mansion or the Chateau Marmont or anywhere else.”

More about U.S. Afghan & Iraq toxic burn pits

Jack Kemp

https://newrepublic.com/article/138058/things-burned

The scarred lungs of a veteran exposed to a burn pit in Iraq. He’s been diagnosed with constrictive bronchiolitis, an often fatal lung disease.
The Things They Burned
A private contractor tossed U.S. military waste in Iraq and Afghanistan into giant pits and burned it. Now soldiers forced to breathe the toxic fumes are sick or dying—and the government is using faulty science to evade responsibility.

The Conclusion Quotes:

In most cases, when veterans have sought treatment or disability benefits from the VA for exposure to burn-pit smoke, their claims have been rejected. The Defense Department maintains that there is no proof that the burn pits made soldiers sick. Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan were exposed to a host of environmental hazards: There were toxic particles in dust and sand, chemicals in fuel and exhaust fumes, industrial accidents and sulfur fires. From a purely diagnostic standpoint, ailing veterans could have been injured by any one of these factors, or a combination of them, or none of them at all. By 2010, at least six years after soldiers began falling ill, the Defense Department was still assuring Congress that open-air burning was "the safest, most effective, and most expedient” means to dispose of military trash in a combat theater.

What is happening with the burn pits follows an all-too-familiar pattern of official dishonesty and deception that has been repeated in war after war. First comes denial: The VA didn’t acknowledge the damage caused by Agent Orange until 1991, nearly two decades after combat troops withdrew from Vietnam, and for years it dismissed the neurological condition known as Gulf War syndrome as psychosomatic. Then, once veterans begin to protest, the military agrees to "study the problem.” Next, it stalls for as long as possible: Long-term studies are commissioned—some of which can take decades. And finally, the government manipulates the outcome to reach the desired conclusion: that there isn’t enough data to confirm a correlation between the illness and its apparent source. Again and again, from Saigon to Kabul, the government has designed inadequate studies, manipulated data, and ignored relevant academic research, all to avoid responsibility for the harm done to our soldiers. Their illnesses linger and worsen. For some ailing veterans, the delay effectively serves as a death sentence.
"It took the government years to recognize that there was a link between Agent Orange and the devastating health effects on our soldiers,” Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat from Minnesota, and Senator Thom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina, observed in an op-ed for Fox News in May. "Veterans had to wait to get the care they desperately needed and clearly earned. Today we have a new Agent Orange: burn pits.”

Cultural Marxists Coming for Kids

Cultural Marxism Is Coming for Our Children

By Susan Wright | February 26, 2017, 05:45pm | @SweetieWalker

They’re after our children, Part II.

Several weeks ago, I told you about Teen Vogue and their online article that promoted abortion to young girls, by suggesting fun, trendy post-abortion goodies to get for their friends.
If you weren’t appropriately repulsed by that, just hang on.
Where Teen Vogue is using peer pressure to make abortion seem normal for the 13 to 17-year old girls, New York-based Donner Doll Company has placed their target on the 5 to 10 year olds, on behalf of transgenderism.
Last week, at the New York Toy Fair, Donner debuted the first "transgender” doll, based on a very disturbed young man namedJared Jennings.
Jennings, the media-celebrated star of The Learning Channel (TLC) show "I Am Jazz,” started his "transition” to living as a "female” as a five-year-old boy, with his family’s enthusiastic (and troubling) support. He is taking hormone therapy to block his puberty and natural development into a man.
There is something deeply sick about parents that would eagerly rush to allow their 5-year old child to carry a fantasy to such extremes.
Let’s be frank. This isn’t just sick. It was also exploitive.
What better way to get media attention (and maybe even their own reality TV show) by using their child’s mental illness?

Read the rest at The Insurgent.
And that’s exactly what this is. It is a mental illness.

Rogue administrative state needs to go once and for all

This from Americans for Limited government:

By Rick Manning

By now it should be abundantly clear to the Trump administration that there are Obama administration holdovers in the 1.3 million non-defense, civilian federal workforce who have no other intention than to politically damage the White House.

These rogue bureaucrats are not serving the American people, they are serving a political agenda, and frankly, they need not be tolerated.

The whole reason the District of Columbia was created without voting rights or representation was so that those who work for the federal government would not wield political power. They are supposed to be neutral. Working for the government is a privilege, not a right, and it's time that President Donald Trump remind them by removing Obama administration hires, particularly if there is no other way to root out subversive employees.

Part of the problem is former President Barack Obama changed civil service rules to make it easier to hire federal employees. Trump has solved that by initiating his hiring freeze. But federal rules also make it extremely difficult to fire civil servants. It is a process that can take up to two years, even when there is cause. That said, problem employees who, say, don't show up for work should be dealt with through this process immediately.

But to do more requires Congress to step in, which can assist this process three-fold: 1) By incentivizing early retirement via the appropriations process with limited-time-only buy-outs; 2) cutting the personnel budgets of non-defense civilian departments and agencies, reducing the enacted full-time equivalent number for each department, agency and office by 10 to 20 percent in the workforce on alast-one-in, first-one-outbasis; and 3) defunding existing preferences under federal rules being given to those laid off being later rehired on a first-in-line basis. That would eliminate politicized Obama administration holdovers, and prevent them from being rehired should it become necessary to fill in some gaps.

Other ideas include eliminating automatic dues deduction for federal employees unions and getting rid of any full-time official time union personnel.

Taken together, a comprehensive civil service reform can only possibly be accomplished in the context of the upcoming continuing resolution and budget process, by simply not appropriating monies for the same number of full-time equivalent employees as last year, and defunding preferences for rehiring previously laid off personnel.

Not only can't Trump do it alone, Congress should step up to the plate exercising their Article I powers and rein in this rogue administrative state.

Rick Manning is the President of Americans for Limited Government.

Bush Family Betrayal

Timothy Birdnow

I've always said the Bush family is a bad thing for America, and here is more proof; George W. Bush's daughter Barbara is to be the keynote speaker at a Planned Parenthood event.

According to Gateway Pundit:

"The Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas has announced that Barbara Pierce Bush is going to be the keynote speaker for the 2017 Annual Luncheon according to Planned Parenthood’s website.

Former President George W. Bush’s daughter, Barbara Pierce Bush, is the CEO and co-founder of Global Health Corps. In the Mission & Vision section of the GHC website it states that "We believe that every person has the right to live a healthy, dignified life.”

The President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, and Barbara Pierce Bush have a mutual connection – Hillary Clinton."

End excerpt.

So the younger Bush is on the wrong side here.

Meanwhile, George W. launched an attack on Donald Trump, something he has never been willing to do to either Obama or even Hillary Clinton.

Bush once bragged he redefined the Republican Party. He did; he largely wrecked it. It's time for America's patrician family to fade into that good night.

GIGO-based energy and climate policies

Paul Driessen

Earth’s climate is likely changing somewhere, and human activities may play a role – albeit one that is dwarfed by the powerful natural forces that have always caused climate cycles and fluctuations. It certainly doesn’t justify ceding control over our livelihoods and living standards to politicians, activists and bureaucrats … honoring the unilateral non-treaty treaty that President Obama signed in Paris … continuing to spend well over $1.5 trillion a year on climate and renewable energy programs … or paying any attention to Garbage In/Garbage Out computer models, like the one this article rips apart.

GIGO-based energy and climate policies

It’s like formulating public safety policies using models based on dinosaur DNA from amber

Paul Driessen

Things are never quiet on the climate front.

After calling dangerous manmade climate change a hoax and vowing to withdraw the USA from the Paris agreement, President Trump has apparently removed language criticizing the Paris deal from a pending executive order initiating a rollback of anti-fossil-fuel regulations, to help jumpstart job creation.

Meanwhile, EPA Administration Scott Pruitt says he expects quick action to rescind the Clean Power Plan, a central component of the Obama Era’s war on coal and hydrocarbons. The US House Committee on Science, Space and Technology is reopening its investigation into NOAA’s mishandling or tampering with global temperature data, for a report designed to promote action in Paris in 2015.

Hundreds of scientists signed a letter urging President Trump to withdraw from the UN climate agency. They warn that efforts to curtail carbon dioxide emissions are not scientifically justified and will kill jobs and exacerbate US and international poverty without improving the environment or stabilizing climate.

Hundreds of other scientists told Mr. Trump he must not waver on climate stabilization efforts or make any moves to defund government or university climate research. Hundreds of businessmen and investors told the President failure to build a low-carbon economy puts American prosperity at risk.

Over in Britain, Members of Parliament say efforts to build a low-carbon economy have led to a 58% rise in electricity prices since 2006, sending manufacturing and jobs overseas, to countries that are under no obligation to reduce fossil fuel use or CO2 emissions. MPs are also angry that carefully hidden "green subsidies” will account for nearly one-fourth of sky-high residential electricity bills by 2020. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2940408/furious-peers-urge-ministers-to-come-clean-about-the-true-cost-of-green-levies-pushing-up-household-energy-bills/

All of this is a valuable reminder that the Climate Crisis & Renewable Energy Industry is now a $1.5-trillion-a-year business! And that’s just for its private sector components, the corporate rent-seekers. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/08/22/climate-crisis-inc/

This monstrous price tag does not include the Big Green environmentalism industry, the salaries and pensions of armies of federal, state, local, foreign country and UN bureaucrats who create and coordinate climate and renewable energy programs, or the far higher electricity and motor fuel costs that businesses and families must pay, to cover the costs of "saving people and planet from climate ravages.”

Earth’s climate is likely changing somewhere, as it has throughout planetary and human history. Our fuel use and countless other human activities may play a role, at least locally – but their role is dwarfed to near irrelevance by powerful solar, oceanic, cosmic ray and other natural forces. Moreover, real-world ice, sea level, temperature, hurricane, drought and other observations show nothing outside historic fluctuations. Unprecedented disasters exist only in the realm of hypotheses, press releases and computer models.

So there is no reason to cede control over our livelihoods and living standards to politicians, activists and bureaucrats; replace reliable, affordable fossil fuel energy with expensive, unreliable renewables; destroy millions of jobs in the process; and tell billions of impoverished people they must be content with solar ovens, solar panels, wind turbines, and health, nutrition and living standards little better than today’s.

There is no reason to honor the document that President Obama unilaterally signed in Paris. As Dr. Steve Allen observed in a masterful analysis: "The decisive action promised in the treaty that is not a treaty consists of governments, most of them run by dictators and thieves, promising, on an honor system, to take steps of their own choosing, to change future weather patterns, and then coming up with ways by which they can measure their own progress and hold themselves accountable by their own standards for the promises they have made, on penalty of no punishment if they break their word.”

Mainly, Allen continues, the Paris con is about "taking money from taxpayers and consumers and businesspeople and electricity ratepayers, and giving it to crony capitalists; and taking money from people in relatively successful countries and giving it to rich people in poor countries, to benefit governing elites.”

India alone wants hundreds of billions of dollars in climate "adaptation and reparation” money from industrialized nations that are supposed to slash their fossil fuel use, CO2 emissions and economic growth, while pouring trillions into the Green Climate Fund. Meanwhile, India, China and other rapidly developing nations are firing up hundreds of coal-fueled power plants, burning more oil and gas, and emitting more CO2, to industrialize their countries and lift their people out of abject poverty – as well they should. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24020350-miracle-molecule

So just follow the money – and power-grabbing. That is the real source of the religious fervor, the Catechism of Climate Cataclysm, behind the vehement denunciations of President Trump for having the gall to threaten the global high priests who drive and profit from climate change fear mongering.

Those forces are desperate and determined to keep their power and money train on track. They’re ramping up indignation and cranking out "research” to justify their demands. For example:

Expert Market (whose core expertise is helping companies compare prices for postage meters, coffee machines and other B2B products) has just released a study purporting to show which US states will suffer most "from Trump’s climate change denial” and America’s "climate change inaction.”

The total cost will be $506 billion by 2050, just for hurricane and other real estate damages, extra energy costs, and more frequent and severe droughts. "Vermont emerged as the state worst equipped to handle the cost,” the study contends, while Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas are also "severely at risk.” California and New York are among those best able to endure the imminent chaos.

http://www.expertmarket.com/focus/research/this-is-how-much-climate-change-denial-will-cost-americans

It sounds horrific – and it’s intended to be, the better to pressure the White House and Congress to codify and enforce the nonbinding provisions of the Paris non-treaty, and retain Obama-era anti-hydrocarbon energy policies. But the entire exercise is a classic example of Garbage In/Garbage Out (GIGO) black box computer modeling, carefully crafted to ensure the justifications required for a predetermined political outcome, especially the monumental "nationwide green initiatives” that Expert Market supports.

Thus, carbon dioxide will drive rapidly rising global temperatures that will warm the planet enough to increase sea surface temperatures dramatically – spawning more frequent, more damaging hurricanes, and melting polar ice caps enough to raise sea levels 23 inches by 2050, the Expert Market experts assert.

Global warming measured in hundredths of a degree over the past 19 years will suddenly be replaced by runaway heat waves. Seas now rising at 7 inches per century will suddenly climb at ten times that rate over the next three decades, sending storm surges far inland. Major US land-falling hurricanes that have been absent now for eleven years will suddenly proliferate to unprecedented levels.

How Vermont and the other top-five "worst equipped” states – all of them inland – will be affected by any of this is anyone’s guess. But the model says they’re at risk, so we must take drastic action now.

Soaring temperatures will increase demand for air conditioning, and thus raise household energy costs, says Expert Market. CA, NY and other "green” state electricity costs are already twice as high as those in coal and gas-reliant states. Imposing wind and solar initiatives on fossil fuel states would likely double their family and business energy costs, but that factor is not included in its calculations.

Droughts "will become more frequent and severe” in states already afflicted by arid conditions – assuming all the dire CO2 depredations, and ignoring both those states’ long experience with drought cycles and how California’s years-long drought has once again given way to abundant rainfall.

The Expert Market study is symptomatic of the politicized assumptions and data manipulation that have driven climate models and disaster scenarios since the IPCC began studying manmade climate chaos.

Indeed, the entire climate chaos exercise is akin to basing public safety policies on computer models that assume dinosaur DNA extracted from fossilized amber will soon result in hordes of T rexes running rampant across our land. We deserve a more honest, rational basis for policies that govern our lives.

About that DNC Chair Job...

Jack Kemp

Ellison will be the Number Two guy. Let's see how well he plays with Perez. One good thing about that is that if he's toiling away at the DNC, he won't be screwing up Minnesota politics.

Ellison may want Muslim prayer rooms at DNC headquarters. Perez might want coed bathrooms. This could soon become be a culture clash.

There's an applicable old Yiddish joke about two communist party officials who met at a conference in Prague.

After a while, one guy turns to the other and says, "Well, comrade, I totally agree with you about the new five year plan and I also agree with you on your method building worker solidarity for the revolution. There's only one thing we don't agree on."

"What's that, comrade?"

"Your agricultural policy. You wish me to be in the ground - and I wish you to be in the ground!" (A common Yiddish phrase for - you guessed it - wishing someone dead. In this case, it is a bitter ego fight about political power.)

Repeal Obamacare Now - Erick Ericson

Jack Kemp forwards this:

Repeal Obamacare Now
By Erick Erickson | February 27, 2017, 05:00am | @ewerickson

Republicans in Congress cannot figure out what to do. Some of them are waffling on repealing Obamacare. Congressman Mo Brooks of Alabama says some of his colleagues are getting cold feet because the bussed in Democrat protestors at their townhall meetings are scaring them.

Republicans have campaigned on repealing Obamacare since 2010. This past year, Republicans ran for re-election claiming to have voted for repeal upwards of 70 times. And now they may not even repeal it. If Republicans will not repeal Obamacare after campaigning since 2010 on that promise, they will keep no promise and no one should ever trust the GOP again.

The solution to this problem is simpler than the GOP or the DC press would have you believe. The GOP should repeal Obamacare without a replacement plan. They should make the effective repeal date January 1, 2018. They should begin work on a replacement plan knowing they have a date certain by which it must be done because Obamacare will no longer exist.

If the GOP tries to do repeal and replace together, they are guaranteed not a single Democrat vote. If they repeal Obamacare, they are guaranteed not a single Democrat vote. But once Obamacare is repealed, the GOP has the opportunity to do something the Democrats refused to do in 2009 — work on a bipartisan healthcare plan. But the only way to get Democrats to engage on this issue is to first repeal Obamacare.

Whether Democrats are willing to help or not, however, is besides the point. Republicans have promised for seven years now to repeal Obamacare. They cannot go back on their word now. They promised if they won Congress, they would do it. The won Congress and said they needed the White House. They got everything they wanted. They will now betray the trust of the American people if they do not keep their word. Obamacare still does not have majority popular support in this country. Americans do want it replaced with something else

Elizabeth Warren and Unemployed Veterans

Jack Kemp

The young Marine who runs the charity Backpacks for Life once told me he wanted to stay away from politics. But the problem is that politics won't stay away from U.S. veterans.

The government only has so many spare dollars and empty buildings. If some American government, be it state or federal or local, wants to house some people or ease access to jobs or welfare payments, they have to chose between giving spaces and funding to American citizens, such as veterans - or give the money to sanctuary city protected illegals. A Massachusetts veterans group has criticized Sen. Warren of Mass. for advocation giving things to illegal immigrants over giving those things to veterans. It is getting harder, if not impossible, to seperate veterans issues from other political concerns because there is only so many tax dollars to go around.

I've got one of those old men's "when I was a boy" stories for you. I once promised myself when I was young that I'd never say these words but I can't keep that promise these days, so I limit such remarks to significant issues and personal stories such as the next one.

Nowadays in NY City, newsstands are run by people from overseas, often from Asia or the Middle East. Perhaps not all of the people in those stands are here legally - I didn't check their personal papers so I can't say for sure. When I was a boy, a number of these NY newsstands were run by disabled people, often U.S. war veterans. They were given some license or government ordered priority for those positions. I recall as a kid going to some newsstands in Manhattan which had a blind person owning and operating it. Even before my time, you can sometimes see one in a 1930s movie. I recall a story - but I can't recall the title - where James Cagney played a blind New York City newsstand owner or worker. Even in my childhood, when a NY Post or NY Daily News cost 3 cents or 5 cents and the NY Times perhaps a dime, it was easier for a blind person to feel in their hand that they had gotten the correct payment than today when periodicals cost $1 to $5. Although a blind person could feel the texture of a $1 bill even today, more people now give a newstand worker a $10 bill and want change in this era when a newspaper costs a lot more than pocket change. I recall that there were also people with physical problems like missing fingers working at newsstands. As a kid then, I would never ask them if these were the result of WWII injuries or work accidents or if they were born that way. But I suspect, guess now that they were people from all the types of causes I mention.

The point is, the NY City government used the newsstand business to help people who were locals who needed help. Not anymore. And that change isn't limited to NY City or the Northeast.

I've figured out the new slogan for establishment Democrats and Big Business establishment Republicans concerning this issue.

"We support hiring undocumented immigrants and unscreened refugees. They are doing the work that unemployed or homeless U.S. veterans just aren't willing to do!"

On second thought, they may have to reword that slogan. I'd say rethink but I believe their minds are already made up and they do not want to do any further thinking about this.

On to the veterans complaint with Elizabeth Warren...

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/2017/02/veterans_group_blasts_elizabeth_warren

(If you can't read the text with this picture, it says: Vets Blast Liz, Mass. Dems for putting immigrants in U.S. illegally before those who have served. Where's OUR rally?)

A local veterans’ advocacy group is blasting Massachusetts U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and other state Democrats for their support of illegal immigrants, calling it "selfish political theater” and demanding they put veterans’ services at the top of their list — or feel the heat.

"We’d like to see our leaders re-examine their priorities, put this at the forefront — if we have to, we’ll knock on some doors in D.C.,” said John MacDonald of Veterans Assisting Veterans. "We need to take care of veterans first before we decide to take care of people who are illegally here.”

In a two-page open letter to "all Americans,” the group — which has funded all-terrain wheelchairs for local vets as well as horse therapy at Ironstone Farm in Andover — slams the "selfish blatant ignorance of the politicians that have chosen illegal immigrants over US Veterans” and calls for readers to support VAV’s cause.

The letter also targets U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, U.S. Reps. Michael Capuano and Seth Moulton — an Iraq war veteran — and Mayor Martin J. Walsh for failing to speak out about veteran homelessness and health care problems, specifically calling out Warren and her "misguided antics.”

"Senator Warren and others like her should know the difference between legal and illegal activity and chose instead to act out negatively in selfish political theater,” the letter reads. "Where’s your rally for US Veterans, Senator Warren?”

Trump Taking Down Sex Traffickers

Timothy Birdnow

In the most underreported story of the year the Trump Administration has been aggressively attacking human sex trafficking networks.

According to Zero Hedge:

"While the mainstream media's attention has been fixed on political drama in Washington D.C., federal and state law enforcement have been quietly working to dismantle a shockingly large number of human trafficking and child abuse networks across the United States. The busts in America come at the same time as a number of other successful international law enforcement operations against networks engaging in human trafficking of women and children.

Since the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20th, 2017, the number of trafficking arrests for human trafficking in 2017 have doubled the total numbers provided for the entire year of 2014 by the Department of Justice."

End excerpt.

He author goes on to list the numerous arrests made nationwide, including the son of Jerry Sandusky, the disgraced football coach at Penn State.

A question; would a Clinton Administration have aggressively pursued this, since Bill Clinton took 26 flights aboard convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein's "lolita express" to "slave island"?

While I don't ascribe to the theory that people like John Podesta were involved in child trafficking via Washington's Comet Ping Pong Pizza, I do know that those who followed the story said Trump was going to clean up the vile sex trafficking trade, and he appears to want to do so.

Sex trafficking is one of the most evil practices on this Earth, and there should be no tolerance for it. It destroys not just the lives of the girls (or boys) involved but of their families, their parents and siblings and all those who care about them. It is a monstrous, vile activity and should be a high priority for law enforcement. The media should laud Mr. trump for going after this, even if they despise the man himself.

There has been a move to move to remove the taboo from child sexual abuse, and the media, ever quick to support anything it can remotely consider "the underdog", is a bit lukewarm where this issue is concerned (unless a Republican is caught doing it.) I suspect many in the media see this as just some overzealous law enforcement going after "free spirited" people. I may be being ungenerous to them here, but it is true that the media is always on the side of hedonism and socially disruptive behavior. At any rate, the fact is this campaign by the Administration is something to be lauded by any reasonable measure. That the fake news media cannot bring themselves to even report this is abominable, and proof of Trump's accusation that the media is the enemy of the American People.

Warty Day of Rage; Witches to Curse Trump

Timothy Birdnow

Witches, warlocks, voodoo priestesses, wizards, shaman, and other asundry black magic practitioners are planning a worldwide day of cursing of Dnald Trump and his supporters.

Yes, the world's pagans are planning a day of rage against The Donald, with chicken bones a-flyin' and hexes a-poppin. Gross stuff will probably be consumed from big boiling kettles. Wierd pseudo-language will be employed. All with the ultimate goal of placing a "binding spell" on the Trumpster and his EEEVVILL minions. If Mr. Trump were wise he would choose his morning cereal from the high-fiber end of the scale; and maybe add a few prunes! Getting bound up is no fun!

According to the U.K. Sun:

"The magic man behind scheme revealed a rituals will take place at Trump HQ in New York, LA, Baltimore, Portugal, South Africa and other spots around the globe.

Even witches in Cornwall are being urged to join in.

"The cast will bind him,” said Baltimore magician Michael M. Hughes. "It’s meant to restrain him from harming civil liberties, immigrants etc.

"It’s not meant to harm him but to make it impossible for him to keep harming the country.”

Hughes has posted instructions for inducing the spell on a Facebook page called Bind Trump."

End excerpt.

I don't know where they get this nonsense; Trump hasn't harmed a fly. He is not "harming immigrants" as he is simply enforcing U.S. law and they aren't immigrants but illegal invading aliens. But I supposed one doesn't expect a lot of rationality from someone who believes he can fly on a broom.

The reality is that this is just another skirmish in an old war between the forces of superstition and Christianity, with those who appeal (wittingly or not) to the powers of Satan. Oh, most witches call themselves Nature worshippers, and they practice Man's oldest religion - a religion that was inspired not by God but by that other fellow. And strangely enough paganism is growing at a time when environmentalism is rising. coincidence?

Trump himself doesn't matter. If this were Mitt Romney or John McCain they would be doing the same thing. This is about an old grudge with the followers of Christ and of Yahweh.

Look; paganism is fun. It is about joy and sex and illustions of false power. The Judeo-Christian heritage is a killjoy, because it says we are fallen, bad eggs in need of redemption. We have rules that must be followed. We have consequences if they are not. All of these things cut into the enjoyment of life, or at least some people believe. So there has been animostiy against The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob for a long time. Modern liberals hate Judeo-Christian values as much as these throwback pagans, and for the same reason; they want to be free to be and live as they choose. That was the same sickness that infected Lucifer in the beginning.

And so what we may see as the silly season is in full swing, with self-styled magical artists playing neopagan spiritual games. And while it's good to laugh at this goofiness, it must be remembered that it is a symptom of a serious spiritual malady, one that will cost at least these people their immortal souls if they don't wake up. Life is hard for a reason; it is not our destination but a weigh station on our spiritual journey, and the hardness of life is intended to force us to lookk at ourselves and reform. Playing at magic and sorcery may be a lot of fun but it ultimately drags those who follow that routedown to Hell. Hell isn't full of monstrous people; it's full of idiiots who rejected the One True God for their own amusement. In the end everybody gets what they choose.

Oh, and these guys have got to be nuts to try to bind Trump up further; the man barely smiles now. He's really going to scowle after days of constipation...

Perez to be Dem Chairman

Dana Mathewson

Well, here's the story. Former Labor Sec. Perez elected as Democratic National Committee chairman.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/02/25/former-labor-sec-perez-elected-as-democratic-national-committee-chairman.html

Former Labor Secretary Tom Perez on Saturday was elected chairman of the Democratic National Committee, defeating top-rival Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, in their respective bids to chart the direction of the national party.

I see they're talking as if the re-organization of the Party's just a week or two away, and they're gonna be Top Dog again in a few months. That remains to be seen, of course.

It DOES say that Ellison will be the Number Two guy. Let's see how well he plays with Perez. One good thing about that is that if he's toiling away at the DNC, he won't be screwing up Minnesota politics.

Evidence of the Chaotic Solar System

Dana Mathewson

To folks with whom I occasionally discuss "Global Warming" or "climate change," here's a fascinating article I just found. For once, we aren't the bad guys. I quote a few paragraphs following:

Plumbing a 90 million-year-old layer cake of sedimentary rock in Colorado, a team of scientists from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Northwestern University has found evidence confirming a critical theory of how the planets in our solar system behave in their orbits around the sun.

The finding, published Feb. 23, 2017 in the journal Nature, is important because it provides the first hard proof for what scientists call the "chaotic solar system,” a theory proposed in 1989 to account for small variations in the present conditions of the solar system. The variations, playing out over many millions of years, produce big changes in our planet’s climate — changes that can be reflected in the rocks that record Earth’s history.

The discovery promises not only a better understanding of the mechanics of the solar system, but also a more precise measuring stick for geologic time. Moreover, it offers a better understanding of the link between orbital variations and climate change over geologic time scales.

[...]

In the context of the solar system, the phenomenon occurs when two orbiting bodies periodically tug at one another, as occurs when a planet in its track around the sun passes in relative proximity to another planet in its own orbit. These small but regular ticks in a planet’s orbit can exert big changes on the location and orientation of a planet on its axis relative to the sun and, accordingly, change the amount of solar radiation a planet receives over a given area. Where and how much solar radiation a planet gets is a key driver of climate.

Guys, I hope I have whetted your appetite to read the whole thing! It's at http://news.wisc.edu/from-rocks-in-colorado-evidence-of-a-chaotic-solar-system/

And there's nothing about Carbon Dioxide, SUV's, or any of that stuff in it!

Cheers!

Obama for President of France!

Dana Mathewson

I just got this from David Dickinson. It seems that American voters aren't the wackiest in the world after all! The French are having an election for president right about now, and somebody over there has a website calling for them to elect ... well, guess who?

The Naked Neck; Live Giraffe Birth Censored from Internet for Nudity

Dana Mathewson

OMG!

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/02/23/live-stream-giraffe-birth-temporarily-pulled-from-youtube-over-nudity-sexual-content.html

Millions of people have been watching and waiting with anticipation to witness the birth of a baby giraffe at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, NY.

A NOTE FROM TIM:

It occurs to me this is part of the move to blur the lines between human and animal. This has been going on, with Spain granting certain "human rights" to Chimpanzees and other such things. There is an anthropomorphizing of the animal kingdom in order to relegate Man to animal status - and thus make both our lives and our freedoms something granted by the State and not Natural Law.  If we are nothing but animals we have no rights. Acting as if  animal nudity is the same as human is another effort to turn Man into just another of the great apes - and perhaps not even the greatest of them.

Obama's Children's Hour

Dana Mathewson

No comment necessary.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/02/23/obama-revamp-federal-bureaucracy-created-widespread-security-policies-violations-watchdog-says.html

One of former President Barack Obama’s pet projects -- to drag federal bureaucracy into the digital age -- morphed into a rogue operation that disregarded information security policies, according to a watchdog report.

End

A NOTE FROM TIM:

Yep. If nothing else it means young people running the show, and they haven't had the years of maturation needed to understand the security issue. It was the Children's Hour.

Snowden was a great example of that; he had top clearance despite being a young guy because he was so tech savvy. Never should have happened; he wasn't ready. But to be good at this stuff you have to be young, which means you have to be immature in other ways.
