1 All the rotten countries want us to have it as bad as they do. Of course. Why not? That way their citizens won't want to come here.

2 The South American country has been caught in a downward spiral for years with growing political discontent further fuelled by skyrocketing hyperinflation, power cuts and shortages of food and medicine.

You do know, I hope, that much of Venezeula’s hyperinflation is caused by us stealing their money. They made the mistake of putting their cash reserves in US banks (it was in dollars because we require that oil sales be only in dollars), and when their government did something we didn’t like we "froze their assets.” i.e. We took their money.

I’m not advocating socialism, here. It is a terrible economic system that always collapses. But it normally does not collapse due to hyperinflation. It collapses of it own weight because, other than air, there simply isn’t enough of anything for everyone to have as much of it as he wants.

7 In the past we used to float loans to Communist countries (and still give money free of charge to Communist China) which kept them from having hyperinflation, Bill. We kept the Soviets afloat for decades with loans and grain deals. We haven't done that with Venezuela which is why they have had to pay their foreign debts by inflating their currency. They've already had the shortages, so it was either inflation or starvation.
