Gambling sites aren't following the media narratuve. They haven't declared Joe Biden the president elect. In fact many gambling sites are still taking bets on the result.

Even though Joseph Biden has been declared President-elect by every major news network, the Electoral College still must certify the results.

That's heresy according to mainstream and social media. On Facebook, Twitter and YouTube users are getting censored and blocked for suggesting the presidential election hasn't been officially won or lost.

Where it really counts, at the bookmakers and betting sites, here's what they are doing. Show this to anyone who has prematurely announced Biden.

PredictIt won’t close its markets until recounts and any litigation by both campaigns are finished, said Brandi Travis, chief marketing officer for Aristotle International, a firm that provides support for the platform.

"Once we have all the electoral counts in and we see that there is a legitimate winner, we’ll suspend the market,” Travis said, "but until we’re sure we’re not going to pay out.”

People who use the site are referred to as traders and they buy and sell shares—priced between $0.01 and $0.99. If a trader wins, they cash out $1 per share.

Over the last eight days, over 300 million shares have been traded on PredictIt. Even though every state has been called and the AP has declared a Biden victory of 307 electoral votes to Trump’s 232, traders on PredictIt are still betting on the incumbent. "It appears that traders are still not completely sure Trump has lost,” says Travis. "On November 6, [one Trump share] was 8 cents and now it’s around 15 cents and 16 cents.”

This means bettors think Trump has a higher chance of winning now, 16%, than they did before election day with Trump shares trading at just 9 cents.

Betfair
At U.K.-based Betfair Exchange, gamblers are still laying out money on the U.S. election. The handle at the peer-to-peer betting platform is now $831 million, up from $640 million a week ago. Biden versus Trump is the largest contest in Betfair’s history, crushing the company’s previous record during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, which drew $257 million (£199 million).

Betfair is also waiting for Trump to concede or for the Electoral College to finalize the results and settle bets. "Before settling the markets, we must therefore wait for clarity around ongoing vote counts, recounts and any potential legal challenges to the results,” the company said in a statement.

BetOnline, an unlicensed offshore operation in Panama, is not taking any more wagers on the presidential election, but they do have some state bets still open for smaller wagers. The company is following in the footsteps of Betfair to wait to pay out.

With the decision still potentially days away, Sportsbet has decided to not make punters wait. Anyone who has bet on Biden to win the US Presidential Election and has placed their bet before early payout settlement won’t have to wait.

If Trump goes on to win, we will pay out those bets. Any bets placed on Biden to win after the early payout settlement, will be settled on the official result.
