... what the Russians are doing is not a show for the faint of heart. But notice: with each jump of the escalation the price (political, economic and moral) of compromise is always higher. The interlocutor is increasingly hostile. We didn't like talking to the Russia of 2014, even less like doing it with today's one. But we’re not at a party, where you can only talk to those you like. The topic is: are we not talking today because we think tomorrow's Russia will be friendlier? on what basis? Or do we think we can continue to shoot straight by ignoring their demands?
Americans think they can control the process, and they think that until it goes too far, it can even play with them. And it's okay. But Us ? Uneducated to foreign policy, having lived all our lives under protection, in a world where no power has ever had the strength to present to the Western Alliance the account of its intransigence and mistakes, we are uneducated at I listen to it and compromise. We let ourselves be pushed inertia toward the terrible moment when we might find ourselves facing the prospect of direct involvement or dishonorable surrender in a war in which we have invested too much, and lost so much, without it. at least to have discussed if it was worth fighting for, and without picking on you part

Tim adds:
That's correct; we aren't listening to Russia. And why not?
I think the Biden junta wants this war to drag on and on. It gives them political cover without actually risking American lives and taking the political heat that entails.
Also the New Worl Order types want this. They think it's time for everyone to join hands and sing kumbaya, and to do that first such places that do not recognize their Divine Right to Rule must be chastised, broken, and forced into the happy utopia.
Russia is one such.
