This is an old joke from the days of Jews protesting and wanting to leave the Soviet Union, but it still is funny (in my opinion).
To counter criticism in the West, the Soviet Union orchestrated a trip for Western journalists to see how Jews lived in Russia at that time. But first, the Soviets had a trick at one of sites to be visited.
Communist Party officials went to a non-Jewish factory worker named Ivan and told him to pretend he was a Jew and tell the Western journalists that he was treated fine by the government and his work boss.
The journalists came to the factory, Ivan lied about being a Jew, and everyone was happy.
After the Western journalists left, an hour later a Communist Party official went to Ivan and said, "That was a great performance. You can go back to being yourself."
To this, Ivan replied, "Too late. I've already applied for a visa to immigrate to Israel!"
