Among the culprits: China, robots and baby boomers. A NOTE FROM TIM; One thing not mentioned is government employment. This sucks up workers and pays above the national average, thus making it hard for private business to compete. And, of course, we still have a lot of illegal (and legal) aliens taking jobs below market levels, tightening the wage screws even more. Businesses can't compete with government on the one hand and can't afford not to pay out below market wages on the other - and so it's the middle ground that gets hurt aka the people they need to hire. |
