This author misses the whole point of our love affair with cowboys.
Why are you seeing cowboys everywhere?
Of course she writes for CNN so that is not a surprise.
Her argument is essentially that we love a fiction that never was, that cowboying is a dirty and thankless business. And technically she's correct. In fact the Old West cowboys were almost all kids, in their early teens. I once saw a claim the average age was fourteen for the average cowboy. There were reasons for that; often parents on hardscrabble farms couldn't feed all their kids when times grew hard and had to send the ones who were just coming of age away. Cowboying paid poorly but they would be well fed on the trail. And the kids? ANYTHING beat being stuck in a one-horse town and working sun to sun in the fields! It's the same reason most outlaws/criminals came from the farms in the old days. Boredom is a powerful motivator.

About those "No Kings" Protests

Chuck U. and company are digging in their heels on this shutdown and the Democrats want to frighten the little bunny rabbits in the GOP with this big protest; they know they'll believe the numbers and flee from Trump and the MAGA types.
Make no mistake; the shutdown is about more than just Schumer's fear of AOC. He knows that the GOP has always taken the blame IN MEDIA POLLING and that the GOP was utterly destroyed by the shutdown during the Clinton years; in fact, it ended the Contract with America. Schumer wants to do this again, get the GOP to surrender and then they are his bitches for a generation. This protest was about more than the shutdown of course but the shutdown is a vehicle to get the Democrats out of the penalty box and so are these inflated numbers.
Bill, as you say, it's just 2% and if it was really a mass movement why did Trump win in the first place? Why are his n umbers higher than most Presidents at this time in their presidency?

Didn't Joe Biden "win" with about seven million phantom votes in 2020, votes which disappeared in the '24 election?I suspect many of these protesters were the "folks" who voted for Biden in '20 who were so difficult to trace.
BTW Hannity read an advertisement to get people to come to the protests and they were offering a luxury bus with food and no doubt booze to take people there. There was probably a stipend too; we need to find out who was funding this as it was clearly not an organic thing.

Arresting ICE agents for doing their duty is qualitatively no different than the Democrats in South Carolina firing on Fort Sumpter in 1860.
It's insurrection and Trump would be within his legal authority to declare New York City in open insurrection and send in troops to arrest the leadership of that rebellious city.

If NYPD starts arresting ICE agents for violating state laws while doing their duty as federal agents then that is at minimum interfering with law enforcement and is a felony. A hunting stand was found just outside the Palm Beach Airport in line of sight of Air Force One and the President.
Secret Service strongly believe this might have been a platform to assassinate Mr. Trump.

I went through and corrected it by hand and then the site crashed before I could save all the changes - they had to be made in the editor, not in notepad first which is my custom. I just gave up for now; will try to come back and fix it later.)
I promised yesterday to round out our story about the
Battle of Yorktown and so I am keeping that
promise. Fate seems determined to keep me from doing
so; I had a long text written and it all deleted
again, for perhaps the fourth time now! This is my
last attempt and I'm going to save the text every step
of the way so I get it done.
While Yorktown largely ended the war (it didn't end it
completely all at once but the Bitish people soured on
the war after Yorktown and Parliament decided to make
peace, probably believing they could take the colonies
back in due course - and they tried in 1812. But it
was the confluence of highly improbable events that
led to the birth of the United States and I want to
flesh out how this all transpired.
First, to understand why the Marquis Cornwallis was at
Yorktown one must understand the British strategy in
waging the war. Britain believed the animosity was
mainly limited to New England and that the other
colonies were acting solely out of sympathy to a

The Dog Ate My Homework

%^&#%$^! For the second time a lengthy post I was writing about the Battle of Yorktown (today is the anniversary) was deleted by a slip of my hand on the new keyboard. Believe me, I said much worse than what is shown above!
I give up; I'm out of time. So read this much less informative post at Revolver.
One point; Cornwallis didn't choose his base poorly; he was laying a trap for Washington which would have worked had the British fleet left Halifax on time. The Admiral got sick and his replacement piddled around and the French came before the Brits arrived. Cornwallis wanted to trap Washington with gunboats up river from his position so he couldn't escape and with Cornwallis' best men marching up the peninsula. Instead Washington was marching DOWN the peninsula with Cornwallis facing French gunships.
If I have time tomorrow I'll try to thresh this out better for you; there are a lot of dots that need connecting.

One point; Cornwallis didn't choose his base poorly; he was laying a trap for Washington which would have worked had the British fleet left Halifax on time. The Admiral got sick and his replacement piddled around and the French came before the Brits arrived. Cornwallis wanted to trap Washington with gunboats up river from his position so he couldn't escape and with Cornwallis' best men marching up the peninsula. Instead Washington was marching DOWN the peninsula with Cornwallis facing French gunships.
If I have time tomorrow I'll try to thresh this out better for you; there are a lot of dots that need connecting.

Federal Courts to Scale Back Operations as Schumer Shutdown Exhausts Funds
When Congress cut off funding for the Vietnam war the military ran out of money within weeks and the whole thing had to be shut down, leading to the humiliation of the fall of Saigon. Government runs on money; it's their natural medium. Without it the whole rotten thing crumbles.

Once shut down we should simply eliminate many of these districts; they are just sources of infection to America anyway, taking on rolls never intended for the judiciary. We would be wise to simply eliminate many of them. America is far too sue-happy these days and it is in no small part because the courts take all cases and treat them seriously - and make new legal precedents that empower the government and the Progressives.
Why, pray tell, are the courts going beyond "essential functions" mandated by the Constitution in the first place? The Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the Constitution says that the ONLY functions that are permissible for any branch of the Federal government are those EXPRESSLY GRANTED by the Constitution, after all. All the rest of this is extra-legal stuff, power they usurping from the other branches and the People and the states. It was this explosion of courts that made the judiciary the lead branch of government when it was supposed to be the smallest and weakest.
So let's shut 'em all down, sez I! Who needs courts sticking their noses into state laws in the first place? Who needs them telling us that we must have dudes in dresses in our little girl's bathrooms or on their field hockey teams?
This may well show that we really don't need all these courts in the first place. Hopefully the public will see this and understand we've been funding a con game all along.

The Trianulating Rand Paul

I used to admire Rand Paul as a principled man, but listening to him on Meet the Press this morning proved to me he's nothing but a media whore and bucks his party for the notoriety, much like John McCain used to do.
Host Kristen Welker repeatedly lobbed leading questions and Paul answered in a way guaranteed to get attaboys from him. For instance she spoke of some group chat by young Republicans which allegedly used racial slurs and Paul was in agreement with Welker rather than pointing out that these were people with dubious connections to the Republicans.
He also defended hiw votes against the spending bill by saying "it adds a trillion to the deficit" and says people were telling him to keep fighting. Not sure who but at this stage the Republicans do not have the numbers to NOT put something like this through and it is at least half of what the Donkeys want. By holding out he guarantees a deal that will increase spending considerably. Yet he stands firm because he can then claim to be "principled" when in fact he's simply triangulating.

My brother was in Branson Mo. last week and he was headed to his home in eastern Kentucky when he decided to stop in the scenic Missouri town of Uranus.
In proof that truth is stranger than fiction they visited the local attraction, which was a fudge factory. Yes, they were packing fudge in Uranus.
You can't make stuff like this up.
I wonder if they have a natural gas plant there...
