Cuomo, other tri-state governors add 8 states to list of mandatory quarantine

Dana Mathewson

Having totally screwed up his response to COVID-19, Gov. Cuomo now tries to fix things, along with the leftist guvs of New Jersey and Connecticut. But I wonder: does this approach run afoul of the Constitution's Commerce Clause (which you can easily look up here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commerce_Clause)?

People traveling to New York, New Jersey and Connecticut from eight additional states will have to quarantine for 14 days upon entering, bringing the total number of states on the governors' "travel advisory"list to 16, officials said Tuesday.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, announced in a press release Tuesday morning that travelers coming from the following states must quarantine:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Arizona
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Iowa
  • Idaho
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • Nevada
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah

Earlier in the day, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced plans to adopt the same mandate in a bid to keep the number of novel coronavirus cases in their respective states under control.

"As an increasing number of states around the country fight significant community spread, New York is taking action to maintain the precarious safety of its phased, data-driven reopening," Cuomo said in a statement provided with a statement."We've set metrics for community spread just as we've set metrics for everything the state does to fight COVID-19, and eight more states have reached the level of spread required to qualify for New York's travel advisory."

Cuomo had said last week that he, along with the Connecticut and New Jersey governors, would implement a mandatory 14-day quarantine for any person traveling from states with high coronavirus infection rates.

The announcement came as summer travel to the states’ beaches, parks and other attractions — not to mention New York City — would normally swing into high gear.

It also marked a flip-flop in the COVID-19 battle since March, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, both Republicans, separately issued orders requiring people flying in from the New York tri-state area, where cases were surging, to quarantine for 14 days.

Enforcement varies by state. The Cuomo administration said violators in New York will be subject to mandatory quarantine and face fines from $2,000 to $10,000. Violators could be discovered at business meetings or during a traffic stop, he said.

Guillotine for Bezos O.K., Rope Door Handle Bad

Timothy Birdnow

So let me get this straight; it's fine to put a faux guillotine in front of Bezos' house (and he's a progresive who supports them) but it's wrong to use a rope garage door handle around a black NASCAR driver. Man, they have their priorities misplaced!

Long-time Climate Activist Realizes the Errors

Dana Mathewson, with Hat Tip to Eddie Engebretson

From Environmental Progress, this is something we seldom see, but ought to see more often.

On behalf of environmentalists everywhere, I would like to formally apologize for the climate scare we created over the last 30 years. Climate change is happening. It’s just not the end of the world. It’s not even our most serious environmental problem.

I may seem like a strange person to be saying all of this. I have been a climate activist for 20 years and an environmentalist for 30.

But as an energy expert asked by Congress to provide objective expert testimony, and invited by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to serve as Expert Reviewer of its next Assessment Report, I feel an obligation to apologize for how badly we environmentalists have misled the public.

Here are some facts few people know:

  • Humans are not causing a "sixth mass extinction”

  • The Amazon is not "the lungs of the world”

  • Climate change is not making natural disasters worse

  • Fires have declined 25% around the world since 2003

  • The amount of land we use for meat — humankind’s biggest use of land — has declined by an area nearly as large as Alaska

  • The build-up of wood fuel and more houses near forests, not climate change, explain why there are more, and more dangerous, fires in Australia and California

  • Carbon emissions are declining in most rich nations and have been declining in Britain, Germany, and France since the mid-1970s

  • Netherlands became rich not poor while adapting to life below sea level

  • We produce 25% more food than we need and food surpluses will continue to rise as the world gets hotter

  • Habitat loss and the direct killing of wild animals are bigger threats to species than climate change

  • Wood fuel is far worse for people and wildlife than fossil fuels

  • Preventing future pandemics requires more not less "industrial” agriculture

I know that the above facts will sound like "climate denialism” to many people. But that just shows the power of climate alarmism.

In reality, the above facts come from the best-available scientific studies, including those conducted by or accepted by the IPCC, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and other leading scientific bodies.

Some people will, when they read this imagine that I’m some right-wing anti-environmentalist. I’m not. At 17, I lived in Nicaragua to show solidarity with the Sandinista socialist revolution. At 23 I raised money for Guatemalan women’s cooperatives. In my early 20s I lived in the semi-Amazon doing research with small farmers fighting land invasions. At 26 I helped expose poor conditions at Nike factories in Asia.

I became an environmentalist at 16 when I threw a fundraiser for Rainforest Action Network. At 27 I helped save the last unprotected ancient redwoods in California. In my 30s I advocated renewables and successfully helped persuade the Obama administration to invest $90 billion into them. Over the last few years I helped save enough nuclear plants from being replaced by fossil fuels to prevent a sharp increase in emissions

But until last year, I mostly avoided speaking out against the climate scare. Partly that’s because I was embarrassed. After all, I am as guilty of alarmism as any other environmentalist. For years, I referred to climate change as an "existential” threat to human civilization, and called it a "crisis.”

But mostly I was scared. I remained quiet about the climate disinformation campaign because I was afraid of losing friends and funding. The few times I summoned the courage to defend climate science from those who misrepresent it I suffered harsh consequences. And so I mostly stood by and did next to nothing as my fellow environmentalists terrified the public.

I even stood by as people in the White House and many in the news media tried to destroy the reputation and career of an outstanding scientist, good man, and friend of mine, Roger Pielke, Jr., a lifelong progressive Democrat and environmentalist who testified in favor of carbon regulations. Why did they do that? Because his research proves natural disasters aren’t getting worse.

But then, last year, things spiraled out of control.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said "The world is going to end in twelve years if we don’t address climate change.” Britain’s most high-profile environmental group claimed "Climate Change Kills Children.”

The world’s most influential green journalist, Bill McKibben, called climate change the "greatest challenge humans have ever faced” and said it would "wipe out civilizations.”

Mainstream journalists reported, repeatedly, that the Amazon was "the lungs of the world,” and that deforestation was like a nuclear bomb going off.

As a result, half of the people surveyed around the world last year said they thought climate change would make humanity extinct. And in January, one out of five British children told pollsters they were having nightmares about climate change.

Whether or not you have children you must see how wrong this is. I admit I may be sensitive because I have a teenage daughter. After we talked about the science she was reassured. But her friends are deeply misinformed and thus, understandably, frightened.

I thus decided I had to speak out. I knew that writing a few articles wouldn’t be enough. I needed a book to properly lay out all of the evidence.

And so my formal apology for our fear-mongering comes in the form of my new book, Apocalypse Never: Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All.

Please read the entire article, here: http://environmentalprogress.org/big-news/2020/6/29/on-behalf-of-environmentalists-i-apologize-for-the-climate-scare As you might expect, the comments are lively. You might well want to purchase the book, too, in addition to bookmarking the website.

The Silver Bullet for Victory

This from Tom DeWeese

Is tyranny our fate?

The question now becomes, what do we do? Obviously, we have one of two choices. We accept our fate, or we fight. Are we finished? Do we quit? Do we surrender?
It would be easy to do any of those things. No one would blame us. We gave it the good fight. We could hide behind the idea that ancient conspiracies set our fate long before we were born. Members of secret societies somehow trumped every ideal we hold – and overpowered every move we made.

We could pat ourselves on the back and say, well, they were just too strong. What could we do? Tyranny is our destiny. Is that what you want to tell your grandchildren when they ask you what you did to preserve the ideal of America?

In another era, we could have loaded up boats and sailed to a new world to live by the ideals we hold. But that was already done. People ran from tyranny. They came here – to America. Now tyranny has caught us. And there’s nowhere else to run. We either accept our pre-ordained "fate” or make a stand. This is it, my friends. This is the moment when we decide the future of our ideals.

India Kicks Chinese Companies Out

Timothy Birdnow

India is kicking Chinese companies out of the subcontinent in response to China's aggression on the border and attempts to subvert Indian sovereignty. Tik Tok and other app producers are no longer welcome.

From the article:

The Indian government on Monday evening saidit was banning 59 apps developed by Chinese firms over concerns that these apps were engaging in activities that threatened "national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India”in what is the latest standoff between the world’s two most populated nations.

Among the apps that India’s Ministry of Electronics and IT has ordered to ban include ByteDance’s TikTok, which counts India as its biggest overseas market; Community and Video Call apps from Xiaomi, which is the top smartphone vendor in India; two of Alibaba Group’s apps (UC Browser and UC News); Shareit; CM Browser, Club Factory, which claims to be India’s third-largest e-commerce firm; and ES File Explorer.

This is the first time that India, the world’s second largest internet market with nearly half of its 1.3 billion population online, has ordered to ban so many foreign apps. New Delhi said nation’s Computer Emergency Response Team had received many "representations from citizens regarding security of data and breach of privacy impacting upon public order issues.”

Good. Maybe the U.S. will follow suit.

Chinese corporations are an arm of the Chicom government. Supposedly "independently owned" thesse corporations are in fact owned by high Communist Party officials and serve the Party's purposes. They are not just about making money but are a tool to advance Chinese imperial ambitions.

China and India have been in a border war of sorts:

Monday evening’s announcement is the latest standoff between the two neighboring nations following a deadly clash at the border earlier this month that stoked historical tensions. In recent weeks, custom officials at major Indian ports and airports have halted clearances of industrial consignments coming from China.

Jayanth Kolla, an analyst at research firm Convergence Catalyst, told TechCrunch the move was surprising and will have huge impact on Chinese firms, many of which count India as their biggest market. He said banning these apps would also hurt the livelihood of several Indians who directly or indirectly work for them.

This is huge; a major squeeze of China's economic order. If the U.S. cracks down on Chinese imports at this time they may be forced to ink a deal with President Trump.

I've always been a supporter of India over China; I think we backed the wrong horse back in the '90's when we promoted China as a major economic power (and we did with all manner of preferential deals) and now China is a menace to all her neighbors. And to us as well.

I'm all for promoting India at China's expense.

At any rate, losing a billion plus customers is catastrophic to the Chinese. We'll see where this leads.

Castle Doctrine

This from Dr. Roy Spencer

When I saw two news articles on this couple, it was painted as a couple of gun crazy rich people who owned a bigger house than they deserved. It turns out the mob broke into private property, at least two of the mob physically threatened the couple. Under Missouri law, the couple could have shot to kill.

Couple Points Guns at Protesters Marching to St. Louis Mayor's Home to Demand Resignation

A word from Tim:

The Central West End used to be a rundown area in St. Louis with decayed mansions. That changed as younger people bought these dilapidated properties and restored them over years. This couple was one such. Now the Central West End is trendy, and Mayor Lyda Krewson lives there in splendor, a classic limousine liberal.

This couple's property had once belonged to the Busch family. I would defend it with firearms too.

Left Bank Book Burning

Timothy Birdnow

Idiot Progressives (but I repeat myself) like Left Bank Books hate censorship until they are the ones doing the censoring. Maybe they can have a bonfire of J.K. Rowling books? BTW, "transgendered" people are mentally ill, so LBB supports delusions. But that is what Progressives do; it's all delusional.

From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

The decision, announced Sunday, is in response to a series of social media posts by Rowling regarding transgender people.

Left Bank Books Removes J.K.Rowling from it's Shelves

Left Bank Books is a trendy independent bookstore in the trendy, white privileged Central West End of St. Louis.

The idea that a person changes his "gender" (it used to be called sex) by clicking his heels together and chanting "Y chromosome be gone!" is purely magical thinking. As the old saying goes, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig!" Wishing something does not make it true. This is nothing but modern sorcery.

Dems Pass D.C. Statehood Bill in House

This from Anthony Watts:

DEMOCRATS ARE CRAZY DESPERATE FOR POWER

This past week, debate in the U.S. House of Representatives on making Washington DC the 51st state was held.AND IT PASSED IN THE HOUSE!

If you find this puzzling, let me clear it up for you.

Article One, Section Eight, of the Constitution permits the establishment of a "District (not exceeding ten miles square) as may, by cession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the government of the United States".

D.C. residents (almost entirely government employees) elect a non-voting, congressional delegate to the House of Representatives , but have no representation in the Senate. The 23rd Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1961, granted the DC three votes in the Electoral College for the election of president and vice president.

If DC became a state, US taxpayers would be paying for running this new micro-state, about 1/20th the size of Rhode Island, and as a new state, it would get two new US Senators. The likelihood of that being Democratic Party Senators would be an almost certain lock; therein lies the motivation.

The U.S. Constitution stipulates the US Capitol be in its own separate District for good reasons: so that it is not coerced by being a part of any state, and so that government itself doesn’t have voting power equal to a state.

This 51st state ploy is simply Democrats wanting to control the Senate again. No clearer example of lust for power and disdain for the founding principles of our country can be made.

A word from Tim:

Maybe we should pass a law banning Federal employees from living outside the District of Columbia; in that way, most would resign. The Republicans ought to put a bill forward for that. I would argue we should have a law forcing Congress to work from their home states, and simply use the Capitol for ceremonial purposes and maybe keep the President there. Scotus should be moved to the Aleutian Islands

Roberts Screws America Again

Timothy Birdnow

John Roberts has done it again. He has betrayed us on several occasions now, looking more and more like David Souter. Now he's gone too far, striking down a Louisiana abortion clinic law.

The Louisiana law required abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at local hospitals in case of emergency. Roberts sided with the radicals on the Court, saying this somehow fundamentally restricted a "constitutional right".

I argued vociferously against Roberts when Bush appointed him. I couldn't get my articles published by Conservatives back then. Now I take no pleasure in my astute observations.

Hope Spring Eternal...

Richard Cronin observes:

I know that I’m quite the pill about fission occurring at the Earth’s core, as described by Herndon’s GeoReactor. Without the witless attachment to the bizarre pseudo-science of CO2, the variations in heat AND meager uptick in CO2 is due to the wonderful heat emanating from within the planet. Solar radiation is really rather superficial, absorbed at the surface of solid land and within a few meters of the ocean surface, then re-radiated as Long Wave Infrared during the darkened nights. Surface temperature measurements are b.s.

Bridgmanite is Earth’s Most Abundant Mineral, Named after Nobel Physicist Willams Bridgeman.

The Hope Diamond possesses a dazzling shade of blue. A known phenomenon in radioactive decay and nuclear fission, releasing antineutrinos, a form of anti-matter, causes Cherenkov radiation, spanning the ultraviolet and visible blue spectrum. This is why spent nuclear fuel rods in cooling baths glow in a bluish color.

Damn it ! Test these blue diamonds for Carbon-14, produced by fission at the Earth’s core.

Hope Diamond Formed Stunningly Close to Earth's Core

Copy and paste if you want to read them. Enjoy!

Ayatollah Obama and his Blood Brothers

"He said, 'Fight them so that there is no more rebellion, and religion, all of it, is for Allah only. Allah must have no rivals.'"

Ishaq:324

When Constantinople fell in 1453 the conquering Turks systematically expunged all evidence of Christian influence there. Perhaps the most egregious thing they did was to convert the world famous Haiga Sophia, basilica of the Patriarch of Constantinople, to a mosque, plastering over the magnificent mosaics that adorned the walls of that famous house of Christian worship. This act of vandalism was hardly unique in the history if Islam; Islam tolerates no competitors in the lands they take by force. We have seen this in our own time, with the Taliban's destruction of enormous statues of Buddha in Afghanistan http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/science/archaeology/2001-03-22-afghan-buddhas.htm as well as Islamists destroying such artifacts in Timbuktu http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2012/06/mali-muslims-destroy-holy-timbuktu-sites-witnesses.html . We have heard calls by Muslims to destroy the pyramids in Egypt http://frontpagemag.com/2012/raymond-ibrahim/muslim-brotherhood-destroy-the-pyramids/ and the tomb of St. Joseph of Shechem in 2000, as well as Al Aqsa. We have seen the desecration of the Church of the Nativity by Palestinian militants hiding from the IDF. They eventually left after a siege, leaving the floor littered with feces and trash.

And this is not limited to holy sites; after Islamic Jihadists destroyed the Twin Towers in New York a Muslim proselytizer came along to establish a victory mosque on the site. Victory mosques are common practice, a way of rubbing the enemies nose in their defeat.

Islam permits no competitors; there are two kingdoms, the Dar Al Islam and the rest. If you are not with them you are their enemies. Enemies must be destroyed.

Consider these verses from the works of Ibn Ishaq, the collections of Islamic oral traditions:

Ishaq:552 "When the populace had settled down, Muhammad went to the Ka'aba and compassed it seven times on his camel, touching the Black Stone with a stick. Then he went inside the Temple. There he found a dove made of wood. He broke it in his hands and threw it away."

Ishaq:552 "The Ka'aba contained 360 idols which Lucifer had strengthened with lead. The Apostle was standing by them with a stick in his hand, saying, 'The truth has come and falsehood has passed away.' Then he pointed at them with his stick and they collapsed on their backs one after the other."

Ishaq:85 "The people were afraid to demolish the temple and withdrew in terror from it. Al-Walid said, 'I will begin the demolition.' He took up his pickaxe and walked up to Allah's House saying, 'O Ka'aba, do not be afraid. O Allah we intend nothing but good.' The he demolished part of it near the two corners."

Islam makes it a priority to destroy the holy places, the shrines, the places of honor of its enemies.

The recent showdown between the House of Representatives and the Senate and President Obama over funding of the Left's sacred cow - universal healthcare - has led to a partial shutdown of the government. In an effort to make the shutdown as visible and painful as possible, President Obama issued orders to shut down numerous parks and historical landmarks across the nationa and even in Europe. He closed the WWII memorial, ordering it barricaded and taped off and giving orders to the Park Police to arrest any elderly veterans who made honor flights to visit their memorial.
http://hotair.com/archives/2013/10/02/unreal-park-workers-installing-more-barricades-around-wwii-memorial-to-keep-vets-out/ Mount Vernon, privately owned, was also almost shut down, or rather barricaded by the government. So too was the cemetery in Normandy and others across the globe..

This desire to strike out at sacred symbols of our national heritage is interesting in that the man ultimately responsible for the orders is one Barrack Hussein Obama. Mr. Obama’s father (about whom he waxed so poetic in his books) was a Muslim, as are his siblings. So too was Obama’s step-father Lolo Soutero, who saw fit to have young Barrack educated in a Madras in Indonesia. Mr. Obama may not be a practicing Muslim, but Islam was certainly a major influence on the man, especially in his formative years. (He is certainly not a Christian, at least not in the normal sense of the term. http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/27103 ) He has described the Muslim call to prayer as a beautiful sound, and has said he would stand with the Muslims if push came to shove.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/04/can_a_president_who_has_promised_to_stand_with_the_muslims_protect_americans.html

It is not far-fetched to think Obama understands the importance of conquering the shrines and holy places of the infidel.

The ancient Chinese military historian Sun Tzu offered this admonition:

"Begin by seizing something which your opponent holds dear"

And Obama knows that, especially where the Tea Party is concerned, these monuments are near and dear to us. Forcing his opponents to fund Obamacare is his version of a victory mosque.

But there's more.

Islam is a Christian heresy. Heavily reliant on Jewish and Christian beliefs, Muhammad created a new faith that included the Jewish Law sans Jews and Christian beliefs while denying the Deity of Christ.

Islam flourished where Christian heresies flourished. http://webspace.ship.edu/cgboer/heresies.html Donatism, Socianism, Arianism, Islam held appeal for all of these, and possesses elements of them all. http://tbirdnow.mee.nu/the_heretical_beliefs_that_ushered_in_muhammed Ditto Mithraism, an early competitor of Christianity in the Roman Empire, provided some of the framework for Jihad. Mithraism held great appeal for soldiers as it called them to holy war, and it was an offshoot of Zoroastrianism, the Persian religion, so it's incorporation into Islam held great appeal in the East.

These heresies all flourished in the Middle East, where Islam would take root. Also, the top-down nature of Orthodox Christianity, controlled as it was by the Byzantine Emperor, associated it with the rich and powerful. Islam appealed to those who hated the corrupt Church/State alliance. Strangely, Islam was worse, creating a true theocracy where the religion was the law.

Read Hilaire Belloc in his description of Christian heresies on Islam.
http://www.ewtn.com/library/homelibr/heresy4.txt

Belloc, writing in the early part of the 20th century, predicted the re-emergence of Islam as a world force based entirely on the models provided by previous heresies.

Belloc says of Islam:

"Mohammedanism was a : that is the essential point to grasp
before going any further. It began as a heresy, not as a new religion. It
was not a pagan contrast with the Church; it was not an alien enemy. It
was a perversion of Christian doctrine. It vitality and endurance soon
gave it the appearance of a new religion, but those who were contemporary
with its rise saw it for what it was not a denial, but an adaptation and a
misuse, of the Christian thing."

And Belloc was absolutely correct; it piggybacked on Christian beliefs and Christian tradition, twisting it out of shape, claiming Muhammad was the Paraclete prophesied by Jesus.

More on this here. http://tbirdnow.mee.nu/blood_brothers_the_twin_heresies_of_liberalism_and_islam

It is interesting to note that Belloc explains the success of Islam as one tied to the redistribution of wealth; wherever the Muslims conquered they forgave debt and seized the property of the wealthy and successful. Does that sound familiar?

Islam also legalized the sexual revolution, allowing a man four wives and as many concubines (read hookups) as he wished. Sound familiar?

Islam was strongly anti-clerical, with no established religious heirarchy. There was (and is) no theology but that which one wishes to believe. Muslim warlords delighted in murdering and disgracing Christian priests and Bishops. Sound familiar?

Islam was monistic in that it unified Church and State under a leader who was concerned with all aspects of life. The subjects of the State were under the control of the Muslim elites, who not only governed but ruled almost all aspects of life. Sound familiar?

Meanwhile, the same can be said of Liberalism.

Liberalism has likewise been described as a Christian heresy.

As Ross Dothan, author of the book Bad Religion, in an internet debate with William Saletan, states:
http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/the_book_club/features/2012/ross_douthat_s_bad_religion/bad_religion_by_ross_douthat_reviewed_liberalism_and_christianity_.html

"[W]hen I look at your secular liberalism, I see a system of thought that looks rather like a Christian heresy, and not necessarily a particularly coherent one at that. In [his recent book] Bad Religion, I describe heresy as a form of belief that tends to emphasize certain elements of the Christian synthesis while downgrading or dismissing other aspects of that whole. And it isn’t surprising that liberalism, which after all developed in a Christian civilization, does exactly that, drawing implicitly on the Christian intellectual inheritance to ground its liberty-equality-fraternity ideals.

Indeed, it’s completely obvious that absent the Christian faith, there would be no liberalism at all. No ideal of universal human rights without Jesus’ radical upending of social hierarchies (including his death alongside common criminals on the cross). No separation of church and state without the gospels’ "render unto Caesar” and St. Augustine’s two cities. No liberal confidence about the march of historical progress without the Judeo-Christian interpretation of history as an unfolding story rather than an endlessly repeating wheel.

And what’s more, to me, contemporary liberals’ obsession with the supposed backwardness of Christian sexual ethics—an obsession that far outstrips sex’s actual role in the preaching and practice of Christian faith—reflects a subconscious liberal knowledge that Christianity is their theological mother, and they’re its half-rebellious child. You can see in it the child’s characteristic desire to finally overthrow the last bastion of parental authority, joined to a continued desire for the parent’s approval for their choices and beliefs. ...

The more purely secular liberalism has become, the more it has spent down its Christian inheritance—the more its ideals seem to hang from what Christopher Hitchens’ Calvinist sparring partner Douglas Wilson has called intellectual "skyhooks,” suspended halfway between our earth and the heaven on which many liberals have long since given up. Say what you will about the prosperity gospel and the cult of the God Within and the other theologies I criticize in Bad Religion, but at least they have a metaphysically coherent picture of the universe to justify their claims. Whereas much of today’s liberalism expects me to respect its moral fervor even as it denies the revelation that once justified that fervor in the first place. It insists that it is a purely secular and scientific enterprise even as it grounds its politics in metaphysical claims. (You will not find the principle of absolute human equality in evolutionary theory, or universal human rights anywhere in physics.) It complains that Christian teachings on homosexuality do violence to gay people’s equal dignity—but if the world is just matter in motion, whence comes this dignity? What justifies and sustains it? Why should I grant it such intense, almost supernatural respect?"

Liberalism was born as the evil twin of the Protestant Reformation. Unlike Protestantism it rejected the Christian spiritual trappings while maintaining a core of the beliefs. That is why Liberals preach
Christian virtues like charity, tolerance, forbearance, equality, and whatnot. But they do not preach it as individual actions but as collective, state-sponsored works. The State replaced the Church in the Liberal worldview. This can be traced back to Jean Jacques Rousseau, who created the notion of Nationalism, whereby the "nation" was to be worshipped as the sum of the collective will. Rousseau knew what he was doing; he wanted to break the power of the clergy, of the Church, of the "superstition" of Christianity. He wanted a false god on the throne. He was also quite taken with Islam, and proposed it as a model. http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/01/paradise_lost_why_the_left_lov.html

And that explains why liberals are so missionaristic, so eager to expand their beliefs. They, like the Muslims before them, broach no dissenters. They are willing to kill - as many people as it takes - to guarantee the victory of their beliefs. Look at Stalin. Mao. Pol Pot. Hitler, Castro, etc..

The similarities between Islam and Liberalism are striking. Both are engaged in Jihad.

Barack Hussein Obama was the child of both worlds. He was sired by a Muslim, educated by Muslims, raised by a Muslim. His mother was a radical leftist, as was the grandfather who took on the task of raising him after Mr. Soetero departed, and his father's good friend and next door neighbor was Frank Marshall Davis, a card-carrying Communist, who took the boy under his wing. Obama taught a class on Saul Alinsky, the father of leftist radicalism (who dedicated his book to Lucifer, the first rebel). Obama went to Chicago, home of the most radical leftists in America, to launch his career. He became a member of the communist New Party,http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/06/07/Obama-Caught-Lying-Again-He-WAS-Member-of-New-Party-Says-Kurtz and a communist terrorist named William Ayers launched his political career.

He is the crux, the person at the crossroads between the blood brothers of Islam and Liberalism.

I am not saying Barack Obama is going to cut off heads, or burn down Christian churches or Jewish synagogues, but I am saying he comes from two very ruthless strains of thought, neither of which tolerates opposition. And he understands the importance of symbols to his enemies. If we are to understand the man we must understand his roots, his intellectual influences, his religious beliefs, his upbringing. Obama was brought up steeped in Jihad - both Islamic and Leftist. He will destroy his opponents (as indeed he has personally destroyed almost everyone he has run against rather than actually beaten them with ideas.) His actions in this continuing resolution battle are absolutely predictable. It should come as no surprise that he would go after our monuments and places of honor.

In the end, Obama can be forced to retreat to fight another day. But that requires that we continue to fight. Like Charles Martel in France, or Jan III Sobieski at Vienna, Obama can be defeated. It simply takes determination. Let us hope the GOP finds that sort of backbone.

Another Giant of Science Has Passed

Paul Driessen

Another giant of science, history and scholarship has left our world. Dennis T. Avery died June 21 at age 83. With the passing of this "gifted scholar and communicator, the world became a less interesting place,” former Heartland Institute president and CEO Joe Bast commented.

Avery’s career was indeed remarkable for its breadth and depth. Born in 1936 in Lansing, Michigan, he earned degrees in journalism and economics from Michigan State University and the University of Wisconsin, then worked for a variety of federal government agencies before retiring in 1989 as Senior Agricultural Analyst for the U.S. State Department. Among his many other awards and honors, he received the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement in 1983.

After moving to northwestern Virginia in 1990, he launched the Center for Global Food Issues and began his international consulting, lecturing and writing career. His farming operations practiced no-till agriculture, which utilizes biotech seeds and herbicides to help preserve soil structure and organisms, moisture, organic matter and nutrients, thereby improving drainage and soil biodiversity, while reducing erosion. Avery practiced and studied what he wrote about in his books and articles.

His 1995 book Saving the Planet with Pesticides and Plastic: The Environmental Triumph of High-Yield Farming was used in classrooms throughout the world. His 2007 New York Times bestseller, Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1500 Years(coauthored by S. Fred Singer) became "the Bible of the fast-growing ‘global warming skeptics’ movement,” Bast said. (Dr. Singer died in April 2020 at 95.) Avery’s last manuscript, Climate and Collapse, will be published posthumously.

For many years he monitored developments in world food production, farm product demand, the safety and security of food supplies, and the sustainability of world agriculture. As a staff member of the President’s National Advisory Commission on Food and Fiber, he wrote the Commission’s landmark report, Food and Fiber for the Future. He traveled widely as a speaker, testified before Congress, appeared on many radio and television news programs, and was often quoted in publications like Time magazine, The Washington Post and The Farm Journal.

Dennis was a frequent speaker at climate change conferences hosted by The Heartland Institute (available on YouTube), contributed to the Climate Change Reconsideredseries produced by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC), and traveled to Katowice, Poland to join other scholars in presenting contrarian, real-world opinions on climate change at the United Nations 24th Conference of the Parties (COP-24) in December 2018.

Countless people read his informative and entertaining articles on energy, environmental and agricultural issues, and on climate changes throughout history, as warmer periods helped civilizations to flourish, while little ice ages and droughts caused many to disappear.

I was honored to edit and distribute some of his columns, and delighted to hoist occasional beers with him while we discussed these topics and the sad decline of civil, civilized discourse and debate over them in recent years. As Joe Bast observed, "In an age when angry exchanges between partisans get much more attention than scholarship and debate, Dennis maintained a dignified but not silent presence. He was a true gentleman and scholar, willing to calmly and patiently explain complex issues, even as others tried to shout down or cancel opposing views” – or even prosecute and jail anyone presenting those views.

My family and I spent a glorious day on his farm, feeding and enjoying the animals, savoring a delicious dinner prepared by his delightful wife and Center for Global Food Issues associate Anne, and chatting on into the night about multiple topics. His friends remember him as "inquisitive, articulate, energetic, humble and well informed” – as much as for his "ready smile and quick dry wit.” Dennis was admired and loved by his family and his many colleagues and friends around the United States and world. He revered history and conducted lengthy, painstaking research in search of the truth on every topic he addressed, even when truth was uncomfortable.

Dennis is survived by his wife Anne, sons Adam and Alex, daughter Amy, stepson Kevin, brother Lawrence, sister Carol, and five grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Covenant Presbyterian Church (2001 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401) or a charity of choice in his name.

We will all miss him, but his amazing legacy will live on.
