Myopic Tax Class Warfare Argument at Amer. Thinker

Today William Sullivan wrote a piece at American Thinker called "Does the GOP Tax Bill promote Class Warfare?" http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2017/11/does_the_gop_tax_bill_promote_class_warfare_comments.html#disqus_thread

The author Goes into details of taxes that harm people in high state tax states and other factors, writing a number cruncher's delight. I found the limited scope of his argumet in great need of a broader, political related rebuttal that prompted me to write the following comment:

I'm no economist even though I sometimes play one on the internet. And I didn't even sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. But if regular citizens' bank savings accounts paid 5.25 percent as they did in the 1950s I suspect there would be a lot less animosity and bitterness and less support for "soak the rich." One percent interest bank accounts are essentially a Soak the Poor and Middle Class event. And I recall NOW accounts which paid a similar interest on checking accounts in the 1970s, as best I remember. That's all gone now as well - but not forgotten. The average Joe or Jane doesn't expect to get the same deal as a Jeff Bezos of Amazon or Donald Trump but they would appreciate as good a small deal as they got decades ago. And the bailout of huge banks and investment companies in 2008 as "too big to fail" was essentially a Soak the Poor action that added to debt and lowered the buying power of average Americans' saved dollars. In fact, it greatly helped Barack Obama to get elected President. This class warfare argument cuts both ways and it is way too simplistic to classify it as mere envy of the poor against the rich.

GOP lawmakers getting impatient with Mueller

They aren't the only ones. But these men are in a position of influence. And they are calling for Mueller's scalp, even as he is trying every trick in the book to collect the president's. Let's hope they are heard.  From Reuters:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Three Republican U.S. lawmakers called on Friday for Robert Mueller to resign as special counsel investigating Russia and the 2016 U.S. election, the latest in a series of conservatives’ criticisms of the FBI and Justice Department during the probe of how Moscow may have influenced the campaign.

Representatives Matt Gaetz, Andy Biggs and Louis Gohmert accused Mueller of a conflict of interest because he was director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation when former President Barack Obama’s administration approved an agreement allowing a Russian company to buy a Canadian company that owned 20 percent of U.S. uranium supplies.

President Donald Trump’s fellow Republicans have been calling for an investigation into the Uranium One deal, amid news of Mueller’s first indictments of Trump associates as the special counsel investigates allegations that the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow.

Conflict of interest, indeed. Mueller should never have been appointed as the "special counsel" in the first place, or since he was, he should have been given strict guidelines as to just how far he could go in any direction. He should have not been allowed to think he was on a fishing expedition, and whoever appointed him should have slapped his hand, hard, when he began to show that he felt he was on one.

William Katz, of Urgent Agenda, who posted the above snipped from Reuters, had the following to say:

Seems to me this is an easy call. Mueller should clearly resign. He has too many links to the questions under investigation. He has also hired lawyers with direct links to the Hillary Clinton campaign, raising many eyebrows. For the good of the country, he should go.

Last Flag Flying is a great movie

I was fortunate enough to live near enough to one of the movie houses where Last Flag Flying is showing now in its limited release. I believe it will open in more theaters later. It is a film produced by Amazon and staring Steve Carell, Laurence Fishburne and Bryan Cranston. It tells the story of three former Vietnam war buddies who join up for a road trip to bury the Marine son of former a Navy Corpsman played by Steve Carell. While they are on the road, they recall and try to reconcile old issues dating from their problems and shortcomings while serving in combat. And they also have to deal with new problems arising as they argue with the military about the best way to honor and bury the ex-Navy Corpsman's son.

This is one of the most moving films I have ever seen. The actors' words, i.e., the script, were so real. The actions they retold and somewhat relived from the Vietnam War - and their contact with a buddy of the former Medic's son who died in the Middle East, were very realistic. There is the contrast of a former active duty Marine who became a minister (Laurence Fishburne) and a filthy mouthed cynic (Bryan Cranston) whose "God is drink." As these two play off of one another, they brought out a full range of emotions. And I even laughed some. And I teared up a bit.

All in all, this is a superb movie, one of the best. If you are currently fortunate enough to live near one of the movie theaters where it is now showing, go see it. For everyone else, because of the stars in this film and the quality of script, I suspect it will be opening in many more theaters in the weeks to come so that many more of you will have a chance to see this movie. Dems: No straight white techies need apply

Well, the Democrats talk about "inclusion" but here they practice exclusion and violate The Civil Rights Act. And they believe they won't get any blowback. For those of you not familiar with the term, "cisgender" means heterosexual.

No, the following is not from the Onion or some conservative comedy group. Incredibly, the Democratic Party's IT department supervisor has requested new applicants to be anything but heterosexual white males.

They don't want more individuals in the "majority" having jobs within the party ...

Employees within the Democratic National Committee are looking for new employees in the Technology Department. However, the DNC is apparently not interested in your resume if you happen to be a white male.

In an email issued to DNC insiders on Monday, Data Services manager Madeleine Leader announced that the Technology Department is looking to fill several positions and asked interested parties to forward the openings to their colleagues.

I personally would prefer that you not forward to cisgender straight white males, since they're already in the majority.

Read the whole thing. Apparently the Democrats believe the cure for the ills of past (often Democrat) government anti-minority discrimination is now new government discrimination against white males. This will not stand up in court and even if a lower court supported this insanity before being overruled, it would only guarantee a second term for President Donald Trump. This demand sure would look good in a Republican fund raising letter, however.
