Trump throws America under the Guadelajaran bus.
Speaking at a rally in Michigan, President Trump - who won election largely on his promises to end the invasion of America by foreigners and open jobs for native born workers - is now calling for a George W. Bush style guest worker program and more H-2B Visas. From the article in Breitbart: Trump said that the unemployment numbers were so good that it was possible to allow guest workers in the country to work the fields and do seasonal labor.
"We have to let people come in. They’re going to be guest workers, they’re going to come in, they’re going to work on your farms, we’re going to have the H-2Bs come in, we’re going to have a lot of things happening,†Trump said.
The crowd of supporters did not cheer in response to his comments."
End excerpt.
First, where does it end? Many corporations have abused American workers with those H2-B visas, firing their permanent staff and making them train their alien replacements. Disney, for example, pulled this nasty trick. And bringing in foreign workers not only takes jobs from Americans but also guarantees a sclerotic industry unable to innovate. Without the impetus of economic necessity American farmers will continue to rely on foreign workers to do menial labor - labor that would be better done by machines. The use of cheap laborers will be profitable to the farm community at first, but in the end will be costly. And why should farmers get this and not hotel chains, meat packers, etc.? In the end there will be more people trying to come for those jobs than there are available, and once again there is a powerful incentive to ignore immigration laws. If we are to truly secure our borders we MUST reduce overall immigration, and that means we have to wean our economy off cheap labor. As long as these kinds of programs exist we are incentivising illegal aliens to invade our territory. And we incentivize businesses to help break the laws, and the Democratic Party will keep trying to amnetize millions of lawbreakers.
America cannot solve this problem with a guest worker program.
Trump has already caved on the DREAMERS to a large extent, and his efforts to look reasonable has guaranteed they will stay. He hasn't gotten the wall going, and in fact signed the Omnibus bill which did not give any money for the wall. If Trump gives us a guest worker program he will have surrendered almost all of his promises on immigration.
These people start out as guests, and wind up as permanent residents. Many just overstay their visas and disappear into the barrio, just another Gonzalez or Jiminez in a sea of poorly documented people. That is where this will go. Mr. Trump owes America better.
