Who is behind a philosophy that want to reduce all moral considerations to a mere struggle for power? This is anti-morality, futile rebellion agains the good with nothing better to replace it with.
It is not actually rational, it is the religion of the Arch Rebel, Lucifer, who rebelled against God in total futility and found himself in Hell because he was trying to use the power and reason that was created in him against the creator of all power and rationality. What is Hell but a person who believes in nothing?
Thus the post modernists who claim to be arch rational and fighting superstition, have actually rejected reason and morality in favor of mindless rebellion and hatred against religion, family, sexual identity, patriotism, beauty. Satan smiles.
What is the vision which inspires Post Modernists? It is only that of violence and hatred and destruction and total skepticism of any morality. One observes its acolytes dressed in black, wearing masks, wielding weapons against those who seek to reason, burning down buildings, robbing stores, assaulting innocent people.
This is Satanic and nothing more.
Have you ever read the short story Good Country People by Flannery O'Connor? In the story the girl who calls herself Hulga is a missionaristic nihilist who hates the "good country people" of her mother's small town. She thinks herself so much brighter than they, so sophisticated and above them. In the end she is brought down by a traveling Bible salesman who steals her wooden leg and tells her what a dope she is "you think you're so smart believing in nothing...well, I ain't believed in nothing for a long time."
These post-modern a-moralists are exactly like Hulga (she called herself that to cheese off her mother; her real name was Joy.) It is really a childish rebellion tied up with sex and juvenile histrionic antics. And it shares the same psychology as do con men , thieves, deviants, and every other such, well, sinner for lack of a better word. Rebellion is rebellion. It exists for it's own sake. As you say Bob it ultimately is the same immature response of Lucifer to his Creator. A big middle finger.
It is not rational. Lucifer was willing to throw EVERYTHING away to have his own way. And he was eager to drag others down with him to thumb God in the eye. The amoralist is indeed a tyrant. He will hurt others to make himself feel important. And he'll hurt himself to prove a point.
Sally Weakley adds:
I mean, Nietzsche had a lot to do with it, as he was influential not only in the history of philosophy, but he seems to be roaringly popular amongs modern armchair academics, as well (a fate of which I’m sure he and his moustache would be proud)
Possibly his most famous idea was ‘the will to power’: the idea that man’s main motivating force was the struggle for domination over others, in terms of strength, wealth, and so forth.
Tim replies:
Yes Nietzche had a lot to do with the current incarnation of it. Also the Marquis de Sade. He was in many ways the father of modernity. Read Erik Kuehnel Leddhin about this. de Sade was more than just sexual torture. He was an intellectual anarchist, a nihilist, and exactly what Bob is discussing here. He was VERY influential in his day and his philosphy is the cornerstone of most of the modern "woke" thinking. Certainly de Sade would be at home now, with the lgbtq stupidity and the class violence and struggle. The Mises Institute has an article about Leddhin and de Sade (and Nietche) here. https://mises.org/library/leftism-de-sade-and-marx-hitler-and-marcuse
