You know, the Chinese and Russians are both very serious about colonizing and exploiting Lunar resources. We need to be in the game. There are vast resources on the Moon and in the solar system. And we need people living there. Mankind will wither if we are stuck in a settled, civilized, controlled world. People need challenges, need frontiers. And if the worst should happen we need an ark of sorts. I'm very happy to see this.

And you thought iron ore was expensive when it was shipped across Lake Michigan from the Missabe range. What will a cast iron sprocket cost when the iron came from the Moon?

A LOT bill! At least at first; the cost would come down considerably once all the infrastructure is in (since you are moving it down hill most of the way.)
But it's about the really expensive stuff, like Helium III which is abundant on the Moon but not Earth. Helium III sells for over two grand a liter, as I am given to understand, and the Chinese own almost all of the deposits. It's used in everything, but especially medical equipment. Things like that would be worth shipping - especially if we establish a permanent mining operation on the Moon.
